According to Volume 14 of the "Chang'an Zhi" compiled by Song Minqiu, a scholar of the Song Dynasty, Baobensi Temple was originally the private residence of Li Yuan, the founder of the Tang Dynasty. Li Shimin, the second emperor of the Tang Dynasty, was born in this residence in the 18th year of the Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty. After Li Shimin ascended the throne, he converted the residence into a temple to repay the kindness of his mother (Empress Taomu) and named it "Baoben". The legend of "Li Shimin and Wugong" has become an intangible cultural heritage of Xianyang City. The exact year of the construction of Baobensi Pagoda is still uncertain. It is said that the original wooden pagoda was destroyed in the war. The brick pagoda was built during the Northern Song Dynasty. Every spring, flocks of swallows fly around the pagoda, creating the unique spectacle of "Swallows Flying Around the Pagoda", which is one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Wugong". 👍Highly Recommended: Baobensi Pagoda features Tang Dynasty architectural style, with a pavilion structure, seven levels, and eight sides. It has a total height of 39.66 meters and a base diameter of 10 meters. The eaves of each level are in a stacked beam style, with brick carvings at the corners and dougong (interlocking wooden brackets) arranged in between. The brick carvings are rough and bold, with meticulous craftsmanship. Each level has four arched doors, with real and fake doors alternating in an orderly manner. Baobensi Pagoda is tall and elegant, with an internal staircase that allows visitors to climb to the top for a view.
