Wangxiang Palace in Wugong, Shaanxi

Wangxiang Palace, also known as 'Shaotai Temple', has been managed by Daoist Yang Zhicheng (Kundao) of the Quanzhen Longmen sect since 1998. The name 'Wangxiang Palace' is due to its distant view of the Louguan Terrace, which is said to be the palace of the Taoist founder Laozi; another theory is that after Laozi descended from immortality to the mortal world and finished preaching to Emperor Wu of Han here, he transformed into an immortal and ascended to the sky, and Emperor Wu gazed at him and named it 'Wangxiang Palace'. After Laozi became an immortal by alchemy at Louguan Terrace, people worshipped and burned incense on the preaching platform of that year to commemorate him, also known as the Incense Burning Platform. According to a large bell cast in the fifth year of Ming Zhengde (1510) that is still preserved in the bell tower of the palace, during the reign of Emperor Xianzong of Ming, the Taoist temple fell into decline, and the temple was occupied by Shanis, so people also called it 'Shaotai Temple'. In 2008, the Taoist temple was announced as the fifth batch of key cultural relics protection units in Shaanxi Province.
