The Tomb of Jiang Yuan in Wugong, Shaanxi

The tomb of Jiang Yuan is located on Xiaohuashan, south of the old city of Wugong, Shaanxi. According to the 'Annals of Wugong County', the tomb of Jiang Yuan is located 360 steps south of the south gate, then 40 steps west, on a ridge, and connected to the Dongyuan Meijia Village. Some say that the tomb of Jiang Yuan is commonly known as 'Mother's Tomb'. Jiang Yuan, also known as Jiang Yuan, is the mother of Hou Ji, the ancestor of the Zhou clan, and a daughter of the Tai family. Some say she was the wife of Emperor Ku. The tomb is located in the middle of the high ground, with offerings hanging on both sides like wings, hence the name 'Flying Phoenix Cave'. The mound is about 4 meters high, square at the bottom, with a circumference of 15 meters. According to the 'Historical Records', Jiang Yuan was the first concubine of Emperor Ku, who gave birth to Hou Ji by stepping on the footprints of a giant, and was honored as the 'Holy Mother' by the world because her son was noble. The tomb faces east, and in front of the tomb is a brick-carved archway from the Qing Dynasty. The top of the front face is inscribed with the five characters 'Jiang Yuan Sheng Mu Tomb'. The inscriptions on the archway are blurred, and the couplets on both sides are no longer visible. The horizontal inscriptions above the couplets on the left and right are respectively engraved with 'At the beginning of the birth of the people' and 'Yan Huang's great respect'. The couplets on the left and right pillars are engraved with 'Walking Emperor Wu Min Zhou people are born, spanning the ancient high tomb Zhi Tai City'. The top of the back is inscribed with 'Mother Yi Tai City', and the couplets on the left and right are 'Yi Ji three chapters lacquer forever bright', 'Da Ya one song mountains and rivers show'.
