Shangri-La Hotel Hohhot | A Fantastic Stay for Families during May Day Holiday
This was my first time staying at a Shangri-La, and compared to my previous experience at Hyatt Regency Jinan, the Shangri-La Hohhot really surprised me in a good way.
**Location & Surroundings**
The hotel is conveniently located between two subway stations, Daxue Xilu and Zhongshan Lu, making getting around super easy. Zhongshan Lu station exits directly into the Mo'er Underground Shopping Street, and there's a delicious bakery right outside the exit. Daxue Xilu is next to Wuxiang City. Across from the hotel, there are two local eateries, 'Chuanshuo Bingzhu Yang' (Legendary Ice-Boiled Lamb) and 'Tiemao Kaorou' (Iron Hat BBQ), which feel authentic and not overly commercialized. Besides a roughly 40-yuan taxi ride to Chilechuan, most other attractions were only about ten yuan away.
**Room**
The room wasn't huge, but it was very well-designed. The space between the bed and the TV was wide enough, so no tripping hazards. The 1.98m king-size bed was incredibly comfortable. The air conditioning was the best part – much better than the Hyatt's, with fresh, circulating air that wasn't stuffy. The floor-to-ceiling window offered an amazing view. From the 16th floor, I could see the stadium, and Hohhot people are clearly very active – there were people running and playing football morning and evening. Further ahead was a park with people boating and even a Ferris wheel that lit up at night. In the distance, we could also see the illuminated Bao'erhan Pagoda. The windowsill was wide enough to sit on, and there were two additional sofas, making it a perfect spot for having tea, dining, and enjoying the scenery.
**Pool & Gym**
I really liked that the changing rooms had a dry sauna. There was also a hot tub with water hot enough. The pool was divided into a kids' pool and an adult pool, both quite spacious. My husband said the gym was also good – not too crowded and peaceful. My daughter, who usually prefers to play on her phone in the room, actually joined me for sauna, hot tub, and swimming this time. She even wrote 'Very good hotel' with a smiley face on a comment card, showing she genuinely enjoyed it.
**Service**
From the moment we got out of the taxi and staff helped with our luggage to checking in at the front desk, everyone was incredibly proactive and enthusiastic. The lobby had a subtle, pleasant soap scent. The hotel also featured two decorative yurt-like setups, which were fun for photos.
**Robot Food Delivery**
This deserves special praise. We order takeout frequently, and the robot could deliver from both its upper and lower compartments. It would call our room when it arrived, and we just had to open the door to pick up our food. Only once was the robot too busy, and the concierge delivered directly to our room. We never experienced takeout being carelessly left in the lobby, unlike at the Beijing Noulan Hotel where we stayed before. The streamlined service at a big hotel like this really gives you peace of mind.
**Minor Regret**
The only downside was that when I wanted to take a bath around 10 PM, the hot water wasn't very hot, even at its maximum. It seems like the central water supply might get overloaded during peak usage hours.
**Value for Money**
We booked this during the May Day holiday for less than 500 yuan a night, a price you couldn't even dream of in Beijing. On our last day, we stayed in the pool until 2 PM before reluctantly checking out.
**Overall:** Great views, excellent service, reliable robot food delivery, and the kids loved it. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

I stayed for four nights and experienced both the Family Room with twin beds and a view, and the Tent-themed Family Room. While both had the same square footage, the Family Room felt a bit cramped in its layout. The twin room was the most comfortable, with a great view of the bridge and the Yimin River, absolutely stunning after the snow. The Tent-themed Family Room had a slide, which kept the kids entertained in the room.
The service was outstanding, truly exceptional. One thing I particularly want to commend is the hotel's TV setup. You can directly log into iQIYI and Aurora Cloud TV, unlike some hotels where you only get Aurora TV for a fee, and even screen mirroring costs money, or there's nothing good to watch. They even provided extra small chairs for the beds, which was a nice touch. Originally, for two nights of our trip, we had planned to try a different hotel and booked at Hanting, but we ended up canceling that and staying at Arivon Manor again.

My stay at Shangri-La Baotou far exceeded my expectations! Even before checking in, I received a call from the hotel arranging the room according to my preferences. Upon arrival, the concierge proactively helped with luggage, and the front desk staff were warm and meticulous, introducing the hotel's restaurants and fitness center. The room was clean and hygienic! I've had their shaomai before and it was good, but this time I was particularly impressed by the new mutton buns at breakfast – absolutely amazing! My family really enjoyed the freshly fried dough sticks. Overall, the entire check-in process was excellent, and the hotel's location is superb! It's only about a 15-minute drive from the highway exit! Finally, a special shout-out to Avila Wang.

The sheets smelled like they'd been sun-dried ☀️. Even the anti-slip mat in the corner of the bathroom was perfectly clean underneath, with no water stains or mildew 🪥. The subway entrance is right downstairs, and around the corner there's a soy milk shop that's been open for over a decade 🥄. The air conditioner's vent filter felt dust-free, and the switch made very little noise.

The hotel lobby is exceptionally elegant, with many solid wood decorations. Presenting a hada (a ceremonial scarf) upon entry is a very ceremonial experience, which the children loved.
Check-in and check-out at the front desk were quick. During the National Day holiday, they even proactively upgraded us to a suite with a beautiful view of Wulanmulun Lake.
The breakfast selection was quite extensive. The mutton noodles were inconsistent in quality; they were delicious the first day but too bland the second, though overall very tasty.
The bedding was comfortable, but the room was quite hot; we had to open the window to sleep at night, perhaps because of the underfloor heating. Although the hotel just opened this year, two rooms had different odors: one was almost odorless and well-ventilated, while the other had a strong aromatherapy smell and poor ventilation. The staff said it was an automatic air-purifying system, but it couldn't completely shut off the odor… The front desk and lobby staff were very welcoming, but the service response was too slow. On the first day, we called to ask our child for toiletries, and they said they were out of stock. The next day, when we went to the front desk, they provided them. We don't know if they genuinely didn't have them or if there was another reason.
Overall, it was very good, but the room service could be improved. I would recommend it to friends and hope it will be better next time.

My partner and I stayed here during our bicycle travels in China. The hotel was very generous holding a package for us for several months as we traveled from Xinjiang through Mongolia and back to China. They also held our bicycles for a week while we took a hiatus to Datong. The staff were friendly and Mark spoke excellent English and helped us a lot with arranging for taxis or other things that we needed. There are not any restaurants or really other businesses nearby - we needed to taxi into town for anything. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean on our initial stay. The pool was just a few lanes and the gym was pretty sparse, but both exist. The restaurant breakfast buffet was expansive but also expensive. It was better when the hotel was busy and the food turnover higher.

The swimming pool is great, with a stunning lake view. The gym staff are also incredibly nice. On Sunday night, a woman helped my child choose swimsuits, and a man was incredibly kind. The lifeguards were also incredibly helpful. Thank you!
The tiramisu at the dessert shop on the first floor was average, but the service was excellent.
The concierge service was the best experience. The men were very polite and offered to help with the cart and luggage upon arrival. When checking out, my family member was feeling unwell and had low blood sugar, and the man who helped with the luggage was so kind as to bring some cookies. Thank you so much!
The Three Bears shop has great food, with some unique items that are worth a visit. With a Ctrip coupon, you can get a 10% discount, while other guests staying at the hotel can get a 5% discount.
A few issues: Compared to other Shangri-La hotels, the facilities are older, lacking USB and Type-C ports, and have relatively few charging points.
The official wifi cable wouldn't connect, but after reporting this to room service, a router was quickly delivered. The room information card says there's a 5% discount on popsicles, but when you go to buy them, the staff won't tell you unless you mention it. When I asked, they said, ”No one's ever offered a discount. If you see it, they'll give it to you. It's not that much anyway.” I don't understand. If the hotel is having a promotion, why don't they proactively ask guests? Whose money is being blown away by the wind? The people of Manzhouli must be really rich. We bought them twice during our stay, once when we first arrived, without knowing about it. But the popsicles were still quite good.
You have to find a seat at the Chinese restaurant, and the food is pretty good. Meals are currently 12% off with in-house dining. It's the Mid-Autumn Festival, so there are mooncakes, alcohol, and local gift packs available for purchase. The information is quite detailed. Thank you!
Overall, my stay was quite good.
Five-star review, absolutely! The front desk staff were incredibly efficient and welcoming during check-in. The room was spotless, with no strange odors, and the bedding was wonderfully soft and comfortable. The soundproofing was excellent, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The bathroom had plenty of hot water, and all the facilities were complete and worked perfectly. The location is very convenient, with great amenities nearby, and the breakfast offered a wide variety of fresh options. Overall, my experience exceeded expectations. It offers great value for money and is my top choice for business trips or travel. I'll definitely be staying here again!

I have come to Grand Skylight Hotel more than once. The room is clean and the waiters are very enthusiastic and can provide the necessary items in time. The manager Wang Xiaoyu who contacted me was also great. Because I brought my baby out to play, our suite was specially decorated to be very parent-child friendly. Everything is available. I come here once a month and I choose Grand Skylight Hotel without hesitation!

I had a fantastic stay at the Yulong State Guest Hotel and was extremely satisfied! Every staff member was incredibly dedicated and attentive. The hotel environment was excellent, and I had a very comfortable stay. The service truly stood out as a major plus. Both the front desk staff and the Assistant Manager were friendly and professional, and every service member I encountered was polite, making me feel right at home. I was so impressed that I even took photos. I will definitely choose Yulong again for my next trip to Chifeng.

AAnonymous UserThe hotel should be pretty good, it has a pool. I didn't book breakfast. Could I suggest to the front desk not to push for good reviews when guests check out? After all, business travelers, when they have time and had a good impression, will naturally leave a positive review.

AAnonymous UserI'd recommend the Lotus Hotel to all my friends! If you're coming to Xiangshawan, you absolutely have to stay at the Lotus – it offers guests an incredible surprise!
Navigate to the Hualian Resort Reception Center, where the service is incredibly thoughtful. They'll even transport your luggage directly to the hotel, so you can head straight to the island to enjoy yourself.
The hotel facilities are also excellent. You absolutely must attend the bonfire party in the evening, complete with fireworks and stargazing. The buffet hotpot is also a great option! Outside the lobby, there's a pool with sun loungers, giving it a real resort vibe.
It's worth mentioning that the hotel has a mini-train specifically for taking guests to designated spots – it's a super novel and fun experience!
We chose an exterior-view room, which I highly recommend. It has a large balcony where you can gaze at the desert. In the morning, it feels like you're waking up right in the desert.
What truly elevated our travel experience the most was the express pass. It felt completely worth the hotel fee, as we were able to enjoy Xian Island without any queues during the May Day holiday. It truly maximized our emotional value!
I love the Lotus Hotel! Many thanks to all the staff and performers for providing such wonderful service!
AAnonymous UserThe Sheraton Hohhot is perfect for both business trips and vacations! It's a well-established five-star hotel right in the city center, making the location super convenient. It's really close to Dazhao Temple and Wanda Plaza. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the floor-to-ceiling windows on the higher floors offer an amazing view of the Daqing Mountains and the city lights at night. The breakfast features local specialties like lamb offal soup and milk tofu. They also have a gym and a swimming pool, and the service is attentive. Overall, it was an excellent stay!

Wwfr0123Location & Transport: The hotel was easy to find and well-situated. The lobby is spacious and comfortably decorated, and the Tang Dynasty horse statues look festive! 🥰🥰
Room View: The room layout was a bit odd, not a standard shape, which I haven't encountered before. The room itself was very warm.
Room Facilities: It seems the decor is a bit older, as the toilet isn't a smart one, and the seat felt really cold in winter. However, they did provide disposable toilet seat covers, which was a laugh! 😂😂 The TV was quite small, but having a humidifier was excellent, otherwise it would have been far too dry.
Service: Both the front desk and housekeeping staff were great – very friendly and enthusiastic. They responded promptly to all requests, and the room amenities and water were generously stocked.

GGuest Userwe bought rooms on club floor expecting to use Executive Lounge, but it was closed for personal use by the owner of the hotel. Then they should not sell club floor room. The rooms we stay also smell bad cigarettes and air condition is too warm and cannot adjust. Very bad stay. Good only the hotel restaurant, Blue Diamond Cafe, good food and good service.
GGuest UserThe room was spacious and the kids loved it, but the front desk service was really subpar. When I asked questions, they answered impatiently and seemed to look down on me, lacking any service enthusiasm. On the other hand, the ticketing service was quite good; they actively verified information, offered service, and even proactively introduced photo services for activities. Housekeeping was also excellent and generally met all our requests. The worst part was the breakfast. For a five-star hotel, eating at communal round tables with strangers, and with no one clearing plates promptly after guests left, was appalling. Half the table would be covered in dirty, leftover dishes, while the other half was the spot we finally managed to find. The food standard was very poor, not even reaching five-star quality; I'd say it wasn't even three-star. Food items weren't refilled in a timely manner, so we had to wait for almost every dish. In the end, we spent about an hour at breakfast, and I left still hungry, just walking away out of frustration because we waited for about 50 minutes.

HHakisamaFrom the moment we arrived, our stay was truly exceptional. What stood out immediately was the staff—every single person we encountered, from the front desk team to the housekeeping crew, was genuinely friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
The breakfast was, without a doubt, a major highlight. It was far beyond typical hotel fare—everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and incredibly tasty. They offered a wide variety of options, including fresh fruit, inner Mongolian buuz, Mongolian milk tea and made-to-order hot dishes. It was the perfect, delicious start to every morning. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable, ensuring we had a peaceful night's sleep. This hotel offers amazing value and service, and we can't wait to return!
