We thought that by using public transport we could manage to do both in a short period of time. So wrong! We arrived and Yang wen yuan - 杨文元 reassured us and in less than 30 minutes he was able to help and book for us a private car for the next day. He made our stay unforgettable. Thanks a lot from both of us if you are reading ! Plus, this hotel is wonderful : super new, technological and the staff is super kind (from the ones in the lobby to the ones in the restaurant/cafeteria). Breakfast is amazing. You can have everything, freshly made for you.

The hotel is next to Yingze Lake Park. You can swipe your card to enter the park. The subway station is about 200 meters away. The Bell Tower and Willow Alley are about 20 minutes' walk away. It is convenient to visit the Northern Qi Museum, Willow Alley, East Lake Vinegar Garden, Shuangta Park, and Shanxi Merchants Museum. The hotel service is good, but the facilities and environment are relatively old, and the decoration style is not the latest.

This is a gorgeous hotel that is centrally-located inside the ancient city with great service. It’s like living in a museum! The hotel is housed in a thoughtfully renovated ancient college with a beautiful courtyard for chatting, eating, and chilling. The rooms are large, clean, and quiet. I really enjoyed the traditional mat style bed. The hotel is a short walk away from the bustling Main Street. It was very convenient to walk to most attractions inside the walled City. The hotel owner also arranged free transport to take me to the high speed rail station. The service was wonderful. No complaints! If you’re staying here, I recommend checking out not just the ancient walled city but also the ancient temples in the area. I would stay here again without hesitation.

I recently came to the ancient city of Datong from Beijing and chose Yungang Jianguo Hotel to stay. When you first walk into the imposing lobby, the exquisite decoration is very eye-catching. Hotel got a pool and gym, I used it and it is not bad at all. They kept the pool and the gym pretty clean. The rooms are also kept clean. Be mindful that the rooms are not design for privacy. If you are staying with another person in the room the bathroom + shower has clear glasses, they have a see through shades covering the glasses but you can still see everything inside. The rooms seems to be smoke free but the hall ways are always filled with smoke smell. They really do not enforce no indoor smoking rule here. It is a hit and miss on the non-smoking room. I see some guest smoking in their rooms with door open. At last the service. The front desk staff seems very cordial and nice. However on the day we are checking out they informed us that one of the towels we used has dye on it which they can not wash out, that came out to a whopping 100 yuan to replace the towel. Really? 100 yuan, I can get a dozen white towels in Walmart. Also, the claim they couldn't clean it was shown to me on a front desk staff's personal phone. Have you ever heard of bleach before? Seriously, you can not get a white towel cleaned? Is this hotel in the hospitality business or linen retail business? Since I was in a hurry to catch a train I didn't want to argue over something as petty as 100 yuan. I paid the fees and left. Next time I am in Taiyuan again I probably will go back to Pullman hotel. Smoke smell is not a problem and they never give me a hard time on something as petty as a towel.
