It’s a great hotel for a couple nights’ stay. Although it feels somewhat dated (it really shows in such a hi-tech city as Shanghai) and the public spaces are cramped (the gym gives claustrophobic vibes when there are more than 5 people in it), especially considering the size of the building and number of rooms - it may suit well for a conservative traveller, or if you have to stay in this particular area, or simply if you enjoy being among European/South American tourists (I got an impression that locals don’t stay here). In a nutshell, the location is unbeatable, the breakfasts were good (half of dishes were westernized), staff speaks English and is helpful, the view from my room was breathtaking, nights were quiet. Some fresh towels were still stained, tho. Not good.

This is an older five-star hotel. I chose it for a trip to Disneyland. While it's an older property, it's very well-maintained in all aspects. Of course, if you're nitpicky, you'll find minor things, but overall, the environment, rooms, facilities, and service are all worth the price. The hotel staff fulfilled all my requests that I left in the comments. One night before bed, I noticed the carpet next to the bed was damp. Engineering came to check it out and found a leak from the bathtub. The front desk immediately moved me to a new room, which I was very happy with. The breakfast selection was a bit limited, perhaps because I went late. When checking out, the front desk asked for my feedback and suggestions. I would definitely come back again!!!!

Very satisfied with this hotel! The location is superb, really close to the subway station, and the view of the river and the Oriental Pearl Tower is fantastic. There are also lots of convenient dining options nearby. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The best surprise was the Dyson hairdryer – so many hotels have old, weak hairdryers, so this was a real plus. I couldn't seem to find any complimentary tea bags though? If there really aren't any, that would be a good improvement.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a five-day business and leisure trip to Shanghai, and it easily exceeded all my expectations in every key aspect, especially its unbeatable location and the exceptional front desk service that made my whole stay warm and hassle-free from start to finish.[Coffee][Coffee]
First and foremost, the hotel’s location is absolutely perfect for anyone visiting the city. It is situated in a prime downtown area within walking distance of iconic landmarks, bustling commercial streets, and convenient public transportation. Metro stations are just a few minutes’ walk away, making it incredibly easy to explore major attractions, business districts, and local dining spots without worrying about long commutes or heavy traffic. For travelers who want to balance sightseeing, work, and relaxation, this central location saves plenty of time and energy, and the quiet surrounding environment ensures a peaceful rest after a busy day out, with no noisy disturbances at night.
What truly impressed me most was the thoughtful, professional, and warm front desk service throughout my stay. Every staff member I encountered was friendly, attentive, and highly efficient, greeting guests with sincere smiles and patiently answering all kinds of inquiries. From my smooth and quick check-in process with no unnecessary waiting, to proactive suggestions for local attractions, dining recommendations, and travel routes tailored to my needs, the team went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and valued. They handled my special requests promptly and carefully, always maintaining a polite and patient attitude even during peak check-in hours. Unlike many hotels where front desk staff feel rushed or distant, here the team balances professionalism with genuine hospitality, making guests feel like they are being cared for by reliable friends rather than just served by employees.
The overall accommodation experience was comfortable and satisfying, with clean, well-maintained rooms and quiet, cozy atmosphere that guaranteed a good night’s sleep. But what will make me choose this hotel again on my next visit is its unrivaled convenient location and the heartfelt, high-quality front desk service that sets it apart from other hotels in the area. This is truly a home away from home in the city, and I cannot recommend it highly enough to business travelers, tourists, and anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and warmly hosted stay. It is without a doubt one of the best hotel experiences I have had in a long time

Room cleanliness is impeccable, making for a very reassuring stay. From check-in to check-out, the entire experience was comfortable and pleasant.

The room was clean and tidy, and the bathroom was spacious with a bathtub and great water pressure. The bed and pillows were large and comfortable. The TV was ready to go, no need for memberships or anything.
The swimming pool was also excellent – clean and not crowded, with a hot tub available. There's even a sauna in the changing rooms.
Parking was free. We happened to be there when they were updating the parking equipment, so we didn't need to go through any procedures; we just parked and drove out, which was very convenient.

Stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong for one night, and it was truly a memorable experience. We were two female travelers and booked a Skyline View Twin Room.
The room was spacious, elegant, and beautifully designed, with a modern yet luxurious feel. The highlight was definitely the stunning skyline view—especially at night, the city lights created a breathtaking atmosphere right from the comfort of our room. It was a perfect setting to relax and unwind.
The beds were extremely comfortable, with high-quality linens that ensured a restful sleep. The room was impeccably clean, and every detail reflected the hotel’s high standards. The bathroom was equally impressive, featuring a well-designed layout, a strong shower, and a generous bathtub, making the overall experience even more enjoyable.
The service was exceptional, as expected from a Ritz-Carlton property. The staff were professional, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Check-in and check-out were smooth and efficient.
The location in Pudong is very convenient, with easy access to shopping malls, restaurants, and key attractions. It is an excellent choice for both leisure and business travelers.
Overall, this hotel offers a perfect combination of luxury, comfort, and service. It was a wonderful stay, and I would definitely return in the future.

This is an eager five-star review, starting with a special shout-out to Bernie and Grace at the Executive Lounge for their exceptional help and superb coffee! All the other staff were also very nice, and the desserts by the plump chef at breakfast were incredibly amazing. It was a perfect travel experience, full marks.
Now for the specifics. From the check-in date, the experience was top-notch. For my 4-day trip, the front desk offered a room upgrade at the minimum extra cost, allowing my whole family to enjoy a full river view plus executive benefits throughout our stay. The rooftop swimming pool was fantastic; the water quality was perfect, and swimming naked at night didn't feel uncomfortable at all. My baby practically lived in the pool and executive lounge for several days. The breakfast was more Western-style, with unbeatable desserts. The ice cream and donuts were outstanding. The Executive Lounge is on the 28th floor, and lunch is à la carte. I highly recommend the foie gras and wagyu burger – absolutely fantastic. The beef was cooked to perfection, and the tenderness of the foie gras and beef complemented each other beautifully. For afternoon tea, there were various coffee options, and the cappuccino and iced latte I tried were both excellent. The light dinner in the evening was more than sufficient for a traveler; the creamy mushroom chicken stew, grilled sausages, and curry beef left a very deep impression.
Finally, let's talk about the room and hotel environment. Kempinski perfectly replicated the essence of classic elegance. While the room facilities might seem a bit dated, the hotel redefined luxury with its tangible comfort. The room temperature was always just right, and the experience with personal garments, towels, and bedding made you unconsciously indulge in the luxury. Even the blankets by the pool were warm, truly embodying the idea of 'warm service.'
Lastly, to pick a bone, I'll offer some limited suggestions as a guest: Firstly, with the economic downturn, family travel will gradually become mainstream. Breakfast could add some kid-friendly items like smiley potato fries, ketchup, and bolognese pasta, which wouldn't significantly increase costs. Secondly, the glass needs cleaning, especially the panoramic glass at the pool, as it affects the view.
I can't come up with a third point because the experience was truly excellent. I hope they continue their efforts. As a long-established luxury hotel in the 'center of the universe,' it needs to uphold not only its style and culture but also persistent passion and warmth. I will definitely visit again. (The ice cream wasn't replenished; it was photographed after closing, which shows how popular it is!)

Experience the charm of old Shanghai at this five-star hotel, which truly excels in attention to detail. I like to open windows for fresh air, and my initial room's window couldn't open. I contacted the front desk, and they promptly moved me to a new room. The room facilities are indeed quite dated; the toilet in the bathroom was surprisingly small, and I had to shower while standing in the bathtub. Despite that, my overall experience was positive. Every staff member I encountered was very polite, making me feel right at home.

Five-star rating, highly recommend! First off, the location is absolutely fantastic. It's super close to the subway, just a few minutes' walk, which makes getting around to attractions and catching public transport incredibly convenient. Plus, there are plenty of dining and shopping options nearby, making everything so easy.
The hotel service was incredibly thoughtful and attentive. The staff were all wonderful, and a special shout-out to the cleaning auntie who even gave my child a plush toy when she saw we had kids. It also happened to be my birthday during our stay, and the hotel surprised us with a complimentary birthday cake and a card – it felt really special. The hotel breakfast was also excellent and had a great variety!
It's very family-friendly; the lobby on the ground floor even has various toys, which kept my child entertained and happy. Our stay was super comfortable, and the room had an unbeatable view – we could see Shanghai's 'three-piece suit' (referring to the iconic skyscrapers) right from the bed. The night view was absolutely stunning! It was clean, quiet, and definitely our top choice for traveling with kids. We'll definitely stay here again next time we're in Shanghai!

GGuest UserThe Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is undeniably the benchmark for luxury hotels in the Bund area! Its century-old architecture is steeped in history, and the central atrium and staircase evoke the charm of a British gentlemen's club, making every photo a vintage masterpiece. The exclusive concierge service, with Emily and Echo providing exceptionally attentive care, ensured a seamless arrival and departure experience. Our room boasted unparalleled river views, with floor-to-ceiling windows directly facing the Lujiazui skyline, making for a truly luxurious and comfortable stay. Their prompt and professional responsiveness truly embodies the motto 'the more you indulge, the more memorable it becomes.' Highly recommended!
JjaspenI've wanted to stay at the W Shanghai - The Bund for a long time, and finally got to during my recent trip to Shanghai. It wasn't as perfect as I'd imagined.
First, the good points: The environment is nice, and the cleanliness is decent. The staff are very friendly, and the breakfast offers a wide variety. The outdoor bar was the best experience.
Now, for the less satisfying aspects:
1. Previously, when staying at hotels, you could contact scalpers or certain individuals on platforms to use their membership tiers for room upgrades. Since I booked in advance, I contacted them early about a possible upgrade. I was told that if there was an available room type on the day, I could be upgraded. However, on the day of check-in, they claimed there were no rooms available and didn't upgrade me. At the time, I checked the Ctrip app and saw that rooms *were* available. I'm a platinum member with upgrade benefits, and I still didn't get one.
2. My Ctrip booking included two complimentary drinks, but the front desk didn't provide vouchers during check-in. I only found out at the bar that I needed to go back to the front desk to get them.
3. I had a lot of things and wanted to use the black bag in the closet. Unfortunately, it was broken, and the hotel hadn't replaced it in time.
GGuest UserThe Peninsula Shanghai, nestled by the Waibaidu Bridge, the Monument to the People's Heroes, and the Bund, might not be described as 'convenient' in the traditional sense, but I found its location perfect for soaking in the unique Shanghainese vibe! The service here is wonderfully old-school and distinctively 'Shanghai' – unhurried yet efficient, demonstrating a clear and deep understanding of guest needs. The rooms are classic Peninsula style, with well-defined functional areas, superb soundproofing, and impeccable cleanliness and maintenance, putting my mind completely at ease. The dining experience was a genuine delight; both breakfast and the Cantonese restaurant in the evening were so memorable. I particularly loved the evening bath ritual – pressing the SPA button and immersing myself in the tranquil, ethereal music, it felt like I was back in a cozy island retreat! My two-day Peninsula experience was a solid 12 out of 10. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Shanghai who wants to truly experience its unique charm!

IImyyjmI stayed in the Panorama Bund Retreat King Bed Room with Oriental Pearl Tower View. The panoramic views are unbelievably beautiful and can be enjoyed both from the room and the large bathtub. The window stretches almost the entire width of the room, with a large sofa beside it that allows you to sit comfortably and fully appreciate the skyline.
The bed was incredibly spacious and comfortable, and the staff even brought scented oils to help with relaxation and sleep, which was a lovely touch.
I must have arrived during a particularly busy period because the restaurant was always crowded and there was usually a queue for breakfast. However, on one occasion I was offered a takeaway breakfast box instead as I was in a hurry.
As I do not have a Chinese phone number, I had difficulty ordering food from outside the hotel. Since the hotel had no halal and vegetarian options aside from one pasta dish, a member of staff kindly used their own phone to help me place an order and allowed me to reimburse them through Alipay. I thought this was incredibly thoughtful and helpful service.
Even spending time in the hotel lobby felt relaxing, as the pink cherry blossoms outside the windows created such a beautiful atmosphere.
The spa treatments were excellent and deeply relaxing. Lisa was fantastic and made the entire experience feel comfortable and welcoming. The in-room amenities were also wonderful! I loved the fragrance of the body lotion so much that I bought one from the spa before leaving.
This has become one of my favourite hotels, and I already can’t wait to return.

GGuest UserStayed here during the May Day holiday. The hotel's location is excellent; you can walk to the Bund, which saves you from holiday traffic jams. The breakfast quality is very good, and the room is clean and spacious. There are even cocktail tools and complimentary mixing ingredients and drinks in the room. The twin beds are 1.5 meters wide, much wider than the 1.2-meter single beds in many hotels, making it especially suitable for families with one child. The service is also very thoughtful. My child wanted to follow the delivery robot back to the room, and the staff patiently helped set it up. I'll definitely consider staying here again next time.
XXiexiaotingThis was my second stay here. I'd forgotten to book two consecutive nights previously, so when I arrived at the front desk, I asked for help. The lady at the front desk was very kind and arranged for me to stay two nights, even upgrading me to an apartment suite. The 110-square-meter room had a huge living room and an open kitchen with a fridge and a steam oven. It was very clean, and the service was enthusiastic. The hotel has a swimming pool, perfect for kids, and a small children's play area, which was enough to keep a boy busy with puzzles. You can see fireworks from the 22nd-floor meeting room, but if you want a really good view, I'd suggest finding another spot. The hotel is very close to Yaoxue and Haichang, and food delivery platforms are also very convenient, making it a great choice for family trips ❤️
