The most easily accessible part of the Great Wall, not so far from Beijing, we took the bus 919 to visit, 12¥, hiked from Tower 1 to Tower 11 before getting out! Lots of people, so the walking is slow. We did it in 3,5 hours.

It is easier to walk the stairs now compare to 20yrs ago. Many elderly and children managed to walk up. It's beautiful Great Wall over sunrise view. Absolutely stunning

An unforgettable experience!! You feel like you're fulfilling a lifelong dream!! This area of the wall isn't too crowded, although be prepared to wait almost two hours for the chairlift if you don't arrive very early. And the same goes for the toboggan run. But it's worth the wait!!

Visiting the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China was one of the most memorable experiences of my China trip. The surrounding mountain scenery was breathtaking, and the wall, watchtowers, and pathways were very well preserved. The views were even more impressive in person than they appeared in photographs. The package included general admission, a round-trip internal shuttle bus, and a round-trip enclosed cable car to Watchtower 14. This arrangement made the visit smooth and convenient, especially because the weather was extremely hot. The cable car saved considerable time and energy while still providing easy access to some of the best viewpoints. There was still plenty of walking, including several steep sections, so comfortable footwear is essential. Visitors should also carry sufficient water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and preferably a portable fan during summer. Despite the scorching heat and physical effort, the experience was amazing.

We arrived just before opening, had time to take the cable car and walk along the wall without the crowds of tourists. It's very convenient—entry is by scanning a card everywhere. No need to pick up tickets or stand in lines. However, it's advisable to choose a more comfortable season—August is the hottest month; the kids couldn't stand more than an hour on the wall.

Jinshanling Great Wall is a quieter, more authentic section, perfect for hiking and enjoying panoramic mountain views.

Recommended sightseeing time: 0.5–1 day
Address:Hualougou Village, Bakshiying Town, Luanping County, Chengde City, Hebei Province

Jinshanling Great Wall is ideal for visitors who enjoy hiking and photography. It preserves a more original look of the Great Wall and is less crowded, offering stunning mountain views, though transportation is less convenient than popular sections.

It's absolutely worth it. We took the package that included all transportation from Beijing, and it's worth it. The scenery is stunning, and you can't miss this wonder. If you're unsure where to go to see the wall, this one is very authentic. Be prepared to work a bit, especially if you come in the summer.

The excursion was well-organized. The bus was punctual both on the way there and back. The site is rarely visited by tourists, which made for a pleasant experience. We arrived at 10:00 AM and left at 4:00 PM. The ticket provided by the organizer included entrance, the shuttle, and the cable car. There were no additional fees to pay on-site. However, the organizer was very uncooperative before the trip. It was stated that the trip could be canceled the day before if there were fewer than 12 participants. We sent a message the day before at 6:30 PM, and the organizer still asked us to wait until 9:00 PM to find out if the trip was still going ahead. This situation can be very frustrating, especially when you only have one day to visit the site. Remember to bring your passport for police checks.

Simatai Great Wall: Dramatic Views & Adventure Routes

Simatai Great Wall

Simatai Great Wall is known for its steep paths and dramatic scenery, making it ideal for adventurous travelers and photographers.

Recommended sightseeing time: 2–4 hours
Address:North of Simatai Village, Gubeikou Town, Miyun County, Beijing

Simatai Great Wall is known for its dramatic scenery and adventurous routes, making it a favorite among experienced hikers and photo lovers. It also has fewer visitors, but reaching this section requires more planning compared to Badaling or Mutianyu.

This was our first wonder of the world! We were very pleased. Bring more water. We drank two bottles each, but it wasn't enough. We walked from the first to the eighth tower and descended to the top cable car station. There's a souvenir shop there, which had stamps from Gubei and Simatai. They also sell beautiful notebooks.

If you want to experience real, living history, not just a restored attraction, Simatai is the perfect choice. Unlike the crowded Badaling, this section has preserved its original appearance as much as possible and has undergone virtually no reconstruction. The main impression is one of breathtaking authenticity and rugged beauty. The wall doesn't just wind through the mountains; it's literally carved into the cliffs: the steps are high and uneven in places, and in some sections there are no railings at all. The climb truly requires good physical fitness—the steep descents and ascents alternate, forcing you to remember what it means to be a hero. I recommend purchasing cable car tickets in advance (around 160 yuan roundtrip) to save your energy for the walk along the wall itself. The views from the watchtowers are simply incredible: mountain ranges stretch to the horizon, and the picturesque water town of Gubei can be seen below.

A cable car ride to the Simatai section is an unforgettable adventure in itself, the perfect prelude to experiencing the "wild" Great Wall. It's not just transportation, but an opportunity to see this ancient wonder from a completely different perspective. The hike up takes about an hour along very steep paths, and many sections of the wall are closed for safety. The cable car solves this problem in 7 minutes, saving you energy for exploration. From the top, breathtaking views of the mountain ranges along which the wall snakes to the horizon open up. Impressions of the climb: views and atmosphere The cabin offers a stunning panorama: jagged peaks, the wall stretching into the distance, and the tiny Gubei Water Town below. This provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the scale of the ancient builders' engineering. The cable car ride is a must for an evening visit: after 6:00 PM, the climb is no longer possible on foot, and you'll be able to catch the sunset on the wall.

Beautiful section of the wall. There is a hike at the top after the cable car ride. The town is amazing at night. Dinner at the traveler's inn was great. The braised pork was wonderful. A small portion is plenty for 2.
