"Overall, the hotel's design is quite good. The exterior and some decorations incorporate the distinctive red brick architecture of Otaru, giving it a strong local character, which is definitely a highlight. The location is also decent, about a 10-minute walk from the station, which isn't too far even with luggage, and it's right next to the canal. The staff's service attitude was excellent; they were generally enthusiastic and willing to offer help proactively, which left a good impression.
However, the hotel's hardware facilities are relatively average, a bit of a letdown compared to the appealing exterior design. The sofas in the lobby lounge area were visibly damaged and looked old, indicating mediocre maintenance. The room layout was also quite compact, feeling a bit cramped when in use, with not much space left after putting down luggage. Additionally, there were damaged areas on the wallpaper inside the room, showing a lack of attention to detail in maintenance. During my stay, the air purifier also leaked, which affected the user experience.
As for breakfast, the variety and taste were quite ordinary, without much distinctiveness. It felt pretty standard overall, but the price was relatively high, offering only average value for money."

We had a pleasant stay. While the room is compact, the location is unbeatable for foodies and explorers.
The Pros:
Location: Amazing! Surrounded by famous eateries and walking streets.
Bar: Fantastic views and a cozy vibe. Note: You'll need to remove your shoes before entering.
Facilities: They offer a public onsen for guestes, though we personally prefer private facilites and didn't try it.
Parking Tip: Hotel parking is available (extra fee), but there is a 24h lot right next door that is cheaper and even closer to the entrance.
The Cons:
Room Design: the sink is outside the bathroom, and the mirror placement is a bit inconvenience for me to use.
Ventilation: Windows are sealed shut, so there's no option for fresh air; you'll rely entirely on the AC.
Verdict: Perfect for a short stay if you want to be in the heart of the city."

"Room: The room was spacious with a vintage decor. The twin beds in the double room were also quite large and very clean. We had a great view of the canal from the window.
Location: It's about an 800-meter walk from JR Otaru Station, or a taxi ride costs around 800 yen. I'd recommend taking a taxi when it's snowing. The seaside is just 400 meters away.
Facilities: You can pick up various samples on the first floor of the lobby.
Breakfast: The breakfast was incredibly rich and delicious! The sashimi was super fresh, the fried dishes were excellent, and they even had Hokkaido milk."

"Do NOT choose this hotel for skiing!! Unless it's half the price during the same period, I'll never pick this place again. Prioritize other hotels with shuttle buses to Otaru Station.
First, the location: This is Otaru-Chikko Station, two stops away from Otaru Station. The nearest convenience store is a 10-minute walk outside. Although there's a mall downstairs, its operating hours are 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM, which is the only time you can use the indoor passage. Most restaurants close around 7 PM, so it's really inconvenient to find food after skiing.
Second, it's really old! The carpet in my room type was dirty, the bed was rock hard, and the pillow felt like a worn-out cotton pillow – small and flat. The worst part is that after sleeping, my head developed small bumps and became very itchy!! I don't know if it was fleas, but it made me scratch my head for the next few days. The hygiene is truly concerning.
This hotel has no coin-operated washing machines or laundry rooms, only individual dry cleaning, which is very expensive. This is super inconvenient for skiers staying for an extended period.
frankly, the only good thing about this hotel is the room size; everything else is a huge letdown."

"Very convenient location if you are into skii/snowboarding. It’s quite centralized to majority of the slopes and only 30mins drive to Otaru town. "The main building for check-in is really close to JR station. Just exit, go straight, turn left after you see Lawson, and then another left at the intersection. It's about 400 meters. The hotel is spread out in several areas. After check-in, the staff told us our villa was another 10-minute walk away. Luckily, there's a shuttle service both ways. It meant we were quite a distance from the onsen, but that was okay since we'd already had plenty of hot spring baths on our trip.
I was pleasantly surprised by the villa's location – it was fantastic! Tucked away in an alley near the shopping street along the canal. The space was huge and well-equipped, and having an entire standalone villa was incredibly comfortable. I didn't encounter any of the issues other reviewers mentioned, so I'm very satisfied!"

This place is truly a hidden gem! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with the warmest smiles and the most genuine hospitality. Every staff member made us feel like family—so friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed.
The stay itself was beyond amazing. The room was spotless, cozy, and incredibly comfortable—but the highlight was definitely the private onsen in the room. Soaking in the hot spring after a long day was pure bliss. Calm, relaxing, and absolutely luxurious.
And the food… WOW. Every meal felt like a masterpiece. Beautifully presented, fresh, flavorful, and full of local character. Each dish was a delight, and we looked forward to every single meal.
Perfect service, perfect stay, perfect food, perfect onsen.

We arrived at the hotel later and the driver couldn't find the door and helped us find it, but after a while, a staff member ran down and asked if we had booked a room, really running! ! Then the driver parked the car, then helped us pick up our luggage, and ran up again! ! ! The service was so good that our whole family was stunned! !
Entering the hotel, the air conditioning is very good, because the outside is -10 degrees, but the interior is very warm, and not baked, so very comfortable, the room is not big, but with all the traditional Japanese room things, the furnishings are very beautiful, However, if the luggage is larger and more, it becomes very crowded, but actually feels like home.
Because one night two meals, so there is a full dinner breakfast, are exquisite kaiseki cuisine, each meal also have staff to the room in advance to lead us to the restaurant, their own room, no one disturbed.
The hot spring area has indoor and outdoor, not big, but enough, we soaked twice and did not bump into anyone, chartered, great! !
After check out, the staff bowed to not see our car! ! There is a traditional Japanese etiquette! ! !
We will definitely come back to experience this one! ! !

The 5-person loft room feels spacious. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. The restaurant windows are adorned with charming Otaru glass elements. I really enjoyed the hotel's happy hour wine tasting, and I loved spending a relaxing time in the beautiful bar.

There's a convenience store nearby, and it's about an 8-minute walk to Sakaimachi-dori Shopping Street. The room isn't very spacious; it's hard to move around with three suitcases open, but the overall quality is good.

The bed was too soft; while tolerable, it wasn't very comfortable. Also, the double duvet cover was a bit off-putting. The lighting was good. AAnonymous UserIt was a cute boutique hotel with nice bonus facilities! Room is nicely designed and functional, with warm colors feel homey and comfy. Too bad we didn’t get the bath tub room as they were fully booked. Views from the window is mountaneous area, very nice! Bed and pillows are comfortable. Surface area for stuff are generous and practical, even enough space for sofa. Too bad they don’t give free coffee or at least instant coffee, only tea. No onsen. Music box night was awesome! Feels like a romantic dinner setting, but the smell of lamp oil was too much, gave me headache so I couldn’t stay for long, even though I would love to support the hotels and all of the polite and friendly staff by dining there. Staff are wonderful, smiles and polite and professional! During this trip we felt like Japanese staff in general are becoming a bit cold toward tourists but this hotel’s staff are not like that! We appreciate you guys. Thank you!

GGuest UserI was very impressed by the connection between the movie-worthy old house and the modern Japanese-style hotel. Just staying here felt like an attraction in itself. However, the lighting was a bit dim at night and the lack of a drain in the bathroom floor was a bit inconvenient.
