Passing through moon gates, circling around rockeries and ponds, Fushan Mountain is just a stone's throw away, with lush tree shadows stretching right to the windows. The front desk didn't hand me a room card, but a heavy brass key tied with a silk ribbon, feeling as if it could unlock the gates of some ancient mansion. The elevator walls were adorned with ink paintings, local masters' renditions of Shen Garden – the willow branches in the painting still drooped, as if you could hear the sighs of Lu You and Tang Wan. Suddenly, I realized that a five-star rating isn't displayed on a wall; it's hidden in the details – the weight of that brass key, the warmth of a handwritten note, the uncontainable pride in the tea master's eyes when talking about tea. The next morning, I was woken by birdsong. Pulling back the curtains, an old man was practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard, each movement slow, much like the pace of this city. Breakfast was at the buffet, and beyond the Western options, there was a dedicated Shaoxing snack station – freshly fried stinky tofu, freshly wrapped ai jiao dumplings, and freshly cooked Ciwu Dajian noodles. The chef, a local auntie, muttered as she cooked, “The broth needs to be ample, the noodles firm, and the toppings freshly stir-fried for the best aroma.” When leaving, the front desk asked if my stay was enjoyable. I said it was excellent. Even after driving a long way, I looked back and could still faintly see the white walls of Shaoxing Hotel standing amidst the tree shadows. It’s not flashy, not showy, just like this city – reserving its best for those willing to slow down."

"I spent a while looking for an affordable hotel in Shaoxing, and this one surprisingly exceeded my expectations. The hotel has its own parking lot, which is a rare find in a bustling area of Shaoxing and a huge plus for anyone traveling by car. The breakfast was decent, nothing spectacular, but perfectly acceptable for the price, and the cafeteria auntie was very friendly. The location isn't in the most lively spot, but it wasn't an issue for us since we were driving, and taxis made it easy to get anywhere. The hotel's attention to detail is impressive; the floor and room numbers are designed in calligraphy, which is very unique. There's also a large, attractive reading room. All the staff were very friendly, and overall, it was a very comfortable stay. I'd definitely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Shaoxing."

"Recently, I spent 3 days and 2 nights in Shaoxing. On the afternoon of the 13th at 4:50 PM, I checked into the Wupeng Hotel at 40 Huancheng West Road (2-star, renovated and opened in 2025). On the morning of the 14th at 8:17 AM, I rebooked and went to Zhejiang Yue Hotel (3-star, renovated and opened in 2020) to complete the pre-check-in procedures. The two hotels are about 500 meters apart and similarly priced. Initially, I chose Wupeng Hotel because it was newly renovated and opened in 2025, and both were branded as ”hotels.” However, reality struck me hard. My different experiences at the two hotels and the WeChat chat records are enough to prove that choosing a hotel shouldn't solely depend on its opening time and promotional pictures. A standardized hotel like Zhejiang Yue offers richer substance and can provide guests with a more comfortable and pleasant vacation experience. Figures 1-10 show Wupeng Hotel, and Figures 11-20 show Zhejiang Yue Hotel. First, Zhejiang Yue, a standardized hotel, offers cozy comfort. The Wupeng 'Hotel' is actually a converted residential building, with its entrance inside a residential complex. The bathroom is within the bedroom, and the toilet door opens inwards, forcing guests to step into the shower to exit; breakfast offers two options: provided by the hotel or self-purchased, with the same varieties for each person. Zhejiang Yue Hotel is located in the historic and cultural street of Xixiao District, a complete hotel-style building, elegant and grand. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with full amenities. A buffet breakfast is provided, and late-night snacks are available in the evening (free of charge). Second, Zhejiang Yue Hotel offers excellent service, with instant replies and immediate assistance for any needs within a minute. The WeChat chat records clearly show the significant difference. On the afternoon of the 13th at 4:50 PM, I checked into Wupeng Hotel. I arrived at Shaoxing North Station at 8:52 AM, then went to Anchang Ancient Town for a 2-hour visit. During that time, I bought 3 catties of cured meat, 3 catties of Xiangfei nuts for 50 yuan, and 2 catties of soy-sauce-braised pork. After that, I took a bus to Keqiao Ancient Town. I was so tired that after checking in at 4:50 PM, I immediately collapsed onto the bed and fell asleep. What happened next made me feel that the service was extremely lacking. Chat records are available. Third, Zhejiang Yue's comfortable environment and thoughtful service are the most basic necessities for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation."

I quite like the overall courtyard-style design of the hotel; it's also great for taking pictures. The room is quite spacious, and I booked a riverside room this time. The bedding felt soft and had no strange odors. The bathroom had a convenient wet and dry separation, and the toiletries provided were comprehensive. Hot water was plentiful, and the water temperature remained stable during showers, so there was no long wait for it to heat up."

"We stayed at the Kapok Hotel Shaoxing for two nights, and one of the nights we booked a package deal that was quite a good value. I think it's a hotel that younger people would really appreciate, with its strong sense of design. The in-room facilities are user-friendly, providing a great experience, and the location is convenient too. Our room faced Shaoxing Tiandi, and it was quite noisy on the weekend due to events, only quieting down after 8 PM. The hotel staff provided excellent service, and I loved the creative complimentary drinks in the fridge, especially the mini yellow wine. The breakfast selection wasn't huge, but you could order à la carte, giving it a high-end hotel vibe. All in all, I really liked this hotel and would definitely book it again next time."
