"The lobby is quite small, but there's a self-service toiletries counter where you can grab essentials for free, including dental floss and tea bags. The hotel feels a bit dated, but it's very clean. The rooms aren't huge, but they're well-equipped and make good use of the space. The only downside was the air conditioning in the room; it made an irregular buzzing noise, likely due to its age. **Cleanliness:** The cleanliness was good, no major issues there. **Service:** The service was very attentive, and the front desk displayed a rainbow flag, indicating it's LGBTQ+ friendly. While the breakfast selection wasn't extensive, it offered a good mix of Japanese, Western, and Chinese options. We happened to be there during Japanese New Year, and they even served festive dishes like mochi soup. The hotel is next to a church. During my stay, I didn't encounter any church activities or services, but I did see a baseball or rugby practice nearby, probably from a local team. Most guests were Japanese and very polite. **Location:** The location is fantastic. The hotel is less than 300 meters from the subway station, right next to Osaka Prefectural Government Office, Osaka Police Headquarters, and Osaka NHK, which made me feel very safe. The intersection where the subway is located has a FamilyMart, 7-Eleven, Lawson, McDonald's, Sukiya, izakayas, yakiniku restaurants, coffee shops, and Sugiyama Pharmacy, making it incredibly convenient. Getting to Namba, Umeda, and Tennoji takes less than 20 minutes, so transportation is also excellent."

"Great location and in Osaka. Our room was on the larger side for Japanese hotel rooms so that was an added bonus. The bathtub had a large window with a great view of the city! The option to do laundry while traveling with a toddler was a lifeline! Certainly would recommend to families traveling with small children."

"Hotel were offering late checkouts to guests who left 5* reviews, so I feel that the reviews have been artificially inflated by people rating 5* so that they can get late checkout. Location was quite far from the JR Namba station and even further from the metro Namba station. The bed was really hard and uncomfortable. Bathroom was tiny, kitchenette had a raised lip which was easy to trip over or stub your toes on. However, the size of the room was good, there was a good amount of space. It would be ok to spend a night or two here but I think we were there 5 nights which wasn’t great with the uncomfortable bed. When we checked in we were told a room number of an uncleaned room and had to ring out of hours to swap rooms, but that was all resolved quickly by the hotel. Also to note, the keyboxes didn’t feel very safe/ secure because the codes followed a pattern (so if you knew one you’d know the other rooms), but we didn’t use the lockbox except for when we checked in so it didn’t affect us, but just something to consider. Overall it was ok for a budget hotel but I think the reviews make it seem too good to be true!"

"The best decision I made on this Osaka trip was staying at this hotel run by a Chinese owner! The owner's warmth truly added so much comfort to our international travels, completely eliminating any feeling of unfamiliarity or communication barriers. The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic. It's just a few minutes' walk to the subway station, making it incredibly convenient for shopping in Shinsaibashi and Namba. There are plenty of convenience stores and eateries nearby, so finding food and getting around is effortless. The room was quite spacious for a Japanese hotel, clean, tidy, and well-equipped. The bathroom, with its separate wet and dry areas, was very comfortable to use, and we could even fully open our suitcases, making our stay very relaxed. What touched me most was the owner's thoughtfulness. Before we even checked in, they provided detailed directions from the airport to the hotel, explaining every transfer clearly. During our stay, whether we asked about sightseeing tips or transportation, they patiently answered all our questions and even shared hidden local food gems that only locals would know. We checked out when we needed to leave."

"Smile Hotel Shinsaibashi in Osaka truly exceeded my expectations, offering a five-star experience. The location is superb, right next to the bustling Shinsaibashi shopping district. Everything from shopping and dining to attractions is within easy reach, yet the hotel itself is a tranquil oasis, providing a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle. The cleanliness was impeccable; every corner of the room was spotless, the bedding pristine, and the bathroom gleamed. The air was fresh and pleasant. While the facilities aren't luxurious, they are complete and practical. The comfortable mattress ensured a good night's sleep, and thoughtful amenities like air conditioning and an air purifier were much appreciated. The staff were a true highlight – everyone from the front desk to the housekeeping team was warm and friendly, always greeting guests with a smile, patiently answering questions, and even hand-drawing maps to help with directions, which made me feel incredibly welcome. In summary, with its convenient location, pristine environment, excellent facilities, and attentive service, this is an outstanding choice for anyone visiting Osaka. My only regret is that this was just a stopover for me, and I only stayed for one day before heading to Kyoto. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit Osaka."

"Absolutely loved this hotel! All the staff were so enthusiastic and genuinely warm. The room was the largest we had during our entire trip to Japan. While the furnishings felt a bit dated, they were exceptionally well-maintained, and there wasn't that old room smell; it was very clean. The breakfast was generally good. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Sapporo Station, the airport limousine bus stop is right outside, and there's a Lawson convenience store just across the street. This will definitely be our top choice for our next visit to Sapporo."

"- Spa was good, breakfast was good. - Location was good; we could go shopping or eating outside easily. The area across the station felt a bit unsafe, and there were some homeless people around. - Very clean floors in the entire building since everyone had to take off shoes at the lobby. - After check-out, the hotel allows guests to store their luggage if guests stay on the premises to enjoy the spa. However, if guests leave the hotel after checkout and then return later, the hotel does not offer luggage storage. In that case, you have to use the coin lockers in front of the hotel. It was a bit inconvenient because I had to exchange money again to use the locker. That was the only inconvenience."

Minor Downsides: If I had to point out one small flaw, it would be the slightly thin walls—some hallway noise was audible in the evening. However, it didn’t significantly disrupt my sleep.
