This neighborhood is pretty safe, I wouldn't be too worried about walking around the neighborhood; people are amicable. You'll find the communities warm and welcoming. The nearest bus stop that goes into Philipsburg is about a 5-minute walk. You can get a cab to the airport. Prices are set by the government and are determined by how far you go. The restaurant will call a cab for you. Just make sure to wait for the cab number they give you. Taxis are also great transportation at night, particularly as the buses are less likely to run. They are unmetered, so agree on a fare before entering the cab. The main Taxi service in St. Maarten is called Dutch Taxi.
