"Stepping into Datong Ancient City in the afternoon, the first pleasant surprise was stumbling upon Renyi Inn.
The inn's antique courtyard, adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, and warm red lanterns, instantly brought a sense of calm. The family who runs the inn is incredibly humble and kind, their conversations warm and thoughtful, making you feel right at home. What's even more admirable is their exceptional care for animals; the inn is like a mini-zoo. They treat every little creature with gentleness and patience, which in turn fills the entire courtyard with life and spirit.
Upon entering, a majestic grey parrot, both poised and lively, greeted me from the front desk – I'd never seen such a large pet parrot before! Two smaller parrots chirped happily nearby, completely unafraid of strangers, lively and adorable. Outside my room was a small courtyard with two tea tables. After a 'special forces'-style day of temple hopping, when I was tired to the point of tears, sitting there enjoying a cup of tea was incredibly relaxing. In the adjacent fish pond, a dozen or so vibrant koi, each weighing at least two to three pounds, swam gracefully, their bodies stretching elegantly. Next to the pond, a large and a small tortoise slowly ambled, quiet and therapeutic. In a corner cage, a tiny grey squirrel darted around, agile and playful.
As dusk fell, watching the lights reflect on the pond and listening to the soft sounds of the small animals, the weariness of travel seemed to melt away in this gentle atmosphere, leaving my heart filled with peace and healing.
I thought this wonderful experience was complete, but to my surprise, a new delight awaited me the next morning – two peacocks, 'Wenqing' (blue and white) and 'Xiaofeng' (emerald green), strolled leisurely in the courtyard with their magnificent tails fanned out – yes, they even have names! The eye-spots on their tail feathers shimmered, as if they were wearing the entire starry sky, beautiful like something straight out of an ancient painting. For a moment, I couldn't tell if I was in an inn or a secret wonderland.
Renyi Inn is far more than just a place to stay; it's a hidden gem within the ancient city. The harmonious coexistence of people and animals creates a warm and healing atmosphere, adding countless gentle and delightful moments to this journey."

"I booked this hotel during my trip to Datong, and it was a pleasant surprise! The hotel was spotless, with every nook and cranny immaculate. The facilities were complete and brand new, with smart home management throughout. Even the toilets were electric, and there was a small refrigerator. The bedding was pristine white, ensuring a comfortable and worry-free stay, and I slept soundly all night. 😴 The environment was beautiful and comfortable, with a lounge area on the first floor where you could relax and unwind. The front desk staff were warm and attentive, providing quick check-in and responding promptly to all requests. They were very considerate, greeting me every time I entered or left, making me feel pleasant. The breakfast selection was plentiful, especially the mutton offal noodle soup, which was incredibly delicious! 😋 I was traveling by car, and the hotel had convenient parking, making it an ideal choice for those on a road trip. The hotel has a great location; the Ya Hong Hotel and Bei Wei Family Banquet restaurants downstairs are highly recommended and are also the two most popular restaurants among locals. It's also not far from Datong Ancient City; walking or taking a taxi is both convenient."

"The hygiene is really not good. I stayed with two children. I arrived at the hotel at 3 am. I didn't want to bother the children. If I arrived earlier, I would have checked out and changed to another one. I booked two rooms, one for the elderly. There was a smell of smoke when I opened the door. The elderly didn't want to bother so they opened the window for ventilation and slept. As for the parent-child room, I didn't find any obvious discomfort when I opened the door. The children liked the bed, but the bathroom was not good. The basin of the washbasin was very shallow and the water was rushing. When the child put the water on, it splashed all over his body and the surrounding table. When I went to the shower area, I could see other people's hair on the wall, and there was also a pair of women's underwear. It seriously affected my mood. Did you really clean it? Or did you only make the bed? There are still many details that were not done. I don't want to complain, I'm too tired. I wrote it to say that the hair was still there when we left. I don't know if it will stay until the Chinese New Year. I will not book Yunduo Hotel again in the future."

The small courtyard was very quiet, and being in the old town, everything was within walking distance. The room was clean and hygienic, the bathroom was very large, and the toiletries were of good quality. The guesthouse is located in a residential area with antique-style buildings, mostly run by guesthouses; currently, parking is available on the roadside outside the complex. There are many restaurants nearby, but getting breakfast isn't very convenient. The old town center is about 1.6 kilometers from the guesthouse.

The owner was very friendly and welcoming. They kindly picked us up at the railway station and helped us arrange a car rental to visit Xuankong Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, and the Yungang Grottoes.
The breakfast was also delicious and a great way to start the day.

The room was modern and comfortable, and the staff provided good service.
The only downside was the housekeeping quality.
On the first day, the room was very clean, but after that, the cleaning was not done properly. It felt like they only removed the trash, and the floor was wiped very superficially — I couldn’t even walk barefoot on it.
Some days they provided only one towel, and some days there were no slippers at all.
The housekeeping and room supply quality really affected the overall experience, and it matches other reviews mentioning inconsistent cleanliness. 整体来说，酒店各方面都很好，房间现代、设施齐全，工作人员的服务态度也很不错。

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

The boss & family are super friendly, nice & provided impeccable service. Giving us thoughtful excursion ideas & recommendations which saved us a lot of time & efforts. We highly recommend this hotel without a doubt & would definitely return again in the future.

TTaniaThe hotel has very spacious and comfortable rooms. The breakfast is only Chinese, but rich and plentiful. We can't comment on the location because we always took taxis to the attractions around Datong (the wooden pagoda, hanging monasteries, and the Yungang Grottoes), but right next to the hotel are plenty of restaurants and places to grab a quick bite. The staff seemed helpful, but no one spoke English, so we had to use a translation app, which wasn't always accurate, and communication was somewhat hampered.
