"I have no complaints at all to this Onsen Ryokan. It is definitely an old building, but the upkeep was done well. We were slightly late to check in (need to check in by 6pm so that the kaiseki dinner could be served), emailed them on their way and they replied pretty fast. We were greeted by the receptionist that is able to speak fluent English, she showed us around and sharing the facilities available. One small disappointment is although we mentioned we would like to have dinner together with 2 other rooms (our parents and siblings) when they asked us via email before the trip, they didn't manage to arrange it (and we arrived too late to make necessary arrangements). Nonetheless, the breakfast at the hall 2nd day they did arrange a big table for 9 of us including a kid and an infant. The onsens are superb, it is clean and has clear instructions what to do. When I visited, the ryokan is quite quiet, I enjoyed the serenity a lot!"

"Visited one of Japan's top three hot spring towns and booked a traditional Japanese-style room at a century-old hotel, which included two meals. The hotel offers a shuttle service from the train station, which was incredibly convenient. Check-in was a breeze thanks to the friendly staff at the front desk who spoke Chinese. The room was exceptionally spacious with stunning views from the window – perfect for two people. The hot springs themselves, both indoor and outdoor, were wonderful. Gero Onsen truly lived up to its reputation; my skin felt incredibly smooth after a soak. Free cold drinks were available post-soak, and the milk from the vending machine was particularly delicious! The meals provided by the hotel were also plentiful and tasty. The entire hotel had a very authentic Japanese ambiance. Although we only stayed for one night, we're already looking forward to a longer visit in the future! Highly recommended to everyone."

"**Cons:** - I had a disappointing experience with one of the drivers. He was very rude and had a bad attitude, especially when we couldn't understand his Japanese. Even though we didn't understand everything he said, his demeanor made us feel uncomfortable and negatively impacted our stay. **Pros:** - The hotel's location is very convenient, with shuttle service available. - The views from the hotel are beautiful. - The facilities are well-equipped and very clean. Overall, while the hotel has many positive aspects, the encounter with the driver left a sour note on our experience. I hope management can address this issue to ensure future guests have a more pleasant experience."

"To be honest considering this has a 4 star rating I'm a bit disappointed. Generally speaking it is a nice place but there are small things that are lacking compared to other similar Onsen Hotels at the same price. For example they don't provide a basket to go to the onsen but only a cheap plastic bag. The Hotel itself is very old but well maintained and at least the general spaces use nice materials and decoration. Once you reach the room it becomes worse. The materials used in the room are very cheap (Vinyl Floor, Cheap Wallpaper that was put on very poorly). Some aspects of the room have been refurnished, like the sink but most of it seems to be original from the 60s-80s. The bathtub and Toilet are retro models. The Onsen baths are a mixed bag - the one on the third floor with Wood ceiling seems to be the newest and is the best of the three. The other two (panorama and first floor) are in dire need of refurbishing. They seem in very bad condition and extremly old. The worst part (for me) was the Breakfast. 90% of the selection was japanese Style (and even that seemed poor). Western Options were only Pancakes, French Toast (which was good at least) and a few sad pieces of low quality bread with condiments. They didn't even have a coffee machine!!! Only pre-brewed coffee that tasted like water."

"The train arrived at Gero Station. I originally planned to walk to the hotel, but I saw the hotel sign as soon as I got out of the station. It was quite a surprise. The check-in process was very smooth. When we went through the formalities, the luggage had been delivered to the room. Then we arranged dinner and breakfast, explained the bathing time, and ladies could specially choose their favorite bathrobes, each one was different. The only drawback was that the bathhouse on B1 did not have an open-air bath, and the men's and women's baths changed at midnight. The next morning, I got up early to go to the open-air bath on the 5th floor. The hotel also had several buses to Gero Station the next morning."

"Onsen hotel offering excellent service, superb food and privacy. Service was next to nothing, staff offered Salmon sushi and malt tea at no extra cost as I choosed to skip breakfast to catch up with early bus schedule. The room was very clean and quite spacious. Dinner and breakfast was in Kaiseki style. The food was excellent, particularly the sashimi and the Hida beef (both grilled and sukiyaki). The use of local ingredients added to the uniqueness of the experience. The onsen was not big but cozy. Considering the hotel has about 20 rooms only, it offer very good privacy and I enjoyed the public bath twice alone in my 2 days stay. Rental private bath was a good surprise and worth to try if you are traveling in pair. Location is a bit far from train and bus station up on the top of the hill, but the the pickup service and a nice view of the mountain compensated for that."

"Impression: Ogawaya was one of the three day-trip options I considered for my Gero trip last summer, and it left a great impression then. So, when planning this winter trip, I really wanted to stay here for a night. Since I booked late, I was lucky to even snag a room. Service: The front desk had a Chinese-speaking staff member who was, hands down, the loveliest Chinese-speaking person I encountered on any of my trips. Unlike some uncomfortable experiences I had at Dormy Inn Kumamoto and with the Nohi bus today, this young lady was genuinely warm and friendly. Facilities: During my day trip last summer, I only got to use the women's bath that was open in the afternoon. It was very clean and had a silk bath. This time, I tried the other bath in the morning, but I still feel that Sagi-no-yu has a more unique charm. Also, on the first floor of the scenic view building where I stayed, there's a 'Can Onsen' (sparkling onsen) which is open to women from afternoon to evening. It features a highly concentrated carbonated hot spring. Although it's artificial, it's definitely worth trying. The lobby has a self-service drink bar, and after a hot spring bath, enjoying a cold orange juice while watching the river flow by outside the window is incredibly relaxing. Drawbacks: The only downside was the noise from my next-door neighbors. I don't know who they were, but this is the only Japanese hotel I've stayed in where I've experienced such loud noise. Despite having two layers of doors, I was disturbed both in the evening and in the morning. Highlights: A great bonus is that the hotel's refrigerator has a freezer compartment – a freezer compartment! Perfect for storing ice cream!"

"Environment and Service: The hotel is quite large and relatively new, with a big courtyard perfect for a stroll. There's also a shuttle service to and from the station. The only minor drawback is that rooms on one side face the train tracks, which can be a bit noisy, and the soundproofing isn't great."

"Lovely onsen ryokan. Staff don’t really speak English so there’s a bit of trying to figure things out for yourself.  Nevertheless, service was friendly and helpful as best they could.  The outdoor onsen is really relaxing and because it’s not a crowded hotel, both times I went I had it to myself as did my wife and kids in the ladies area.  We picked the room with its own outdoor onsen tub which is a great option if you don’t want to use the non-private ones.  You can apparently book private onsens but they did not have any available for us (possibly because we arrived slightly late in the day).  Food was excellent for both dinner and breakfast.  Kids couldn’t;’quite enjoy the onsens cause they found the water too hot so you may want to make sure your kids can before you decided to splurge.  One final point, the ryokan is located down a tiny road on the right just before Google Maps tells you that you have reached."

Enjoy with your precious partner in the sky tonight - Hidden-away inn with the spectacular view of Gero Onsen town below your eyes

"This is my second stay in Gero. The first time I stayed at Yunoshimakan, which is the most popular in the country, I noticed this hotel on the opposite mountain when I checked in. I feel that the location is better than Yunoshimakan, but this hotel is domestic I can’t find any reviews on major domestic software, and the price is higher. This time I booked it completely with a try, but the feeling after check-in really did not disappoint me: First of all, let’s talk about the location: the hotel is on the upper reaches of the Gero River. On the hillside of the west bank, a bird's eye view of Gero is completely unobstructed. If you want to go to Gero Onsen Street or the station, you can ask the hotel attendant to drive there at any time and make an appointment to return to the hotel in advance. The driver will wait at the station on time, and these are free. Second, the hotel’s service is still very good, but the disadvantage is that English is not good. There is only one girl who is Indian and can speak simple English. The other waiters can only communicate in Japanese. The hotel has no waiters who can speak Chinese. There is a slight obstacle to communication. This is also the different positioning of the hotel and the Yunoshima Pavilion. The Yuzhidao Pavilion is full of the voices of Chinese and Taiwanese. It is basically a quiet and quiet Japanese. Regarding the sanitation of the hotel, this may be the most I have seen. It’s a good hotel. I changed my shoes when I entered the hotel. The floor was spotless. Even the carpet in the living room of the room had no signs of being used. The toilet had no peculiar smell. The decoration looked very new. The guest room was very large and looked about 70 square meters. , Each guest room has a living room, dressing room, toilet, bathroom, and bar. The living comfort is extremely high. Thirdly, I saw the layout of the hotel. The hotel has 10 floors. The third floor is a hot spring. Both men and women have indoors. Outdoor hot spring, the guest rooms are from the fourth floor to the tenth floor. There are only 3 rooms on each floor. I booked a private bath. It was on the fourth floor. After observation, there was no private bath on the 5th-10th floors. The spring water of the Lou private hot spring and the water source of the public hot spring on the 3rd floor come from different mountains, so there is a little difference in smell. Personally I feel that I should book a private soup, because the waiter said that the public hot spring is not open in the morning, which means that I can’t enjoy it on the morning of check-out, and the private soup is still OK. In terms of meals, because we chose to eat out, we only booked breakfast. Each hot spring hotel tastes the same, and the price is not necessary. Finally, I found on major travel software that some of the hotel’s names were Songyue and some were Zhangyue, but in fact, this hotel only has a Japanese name, which translates to a string of Japanese words called Tonight Starry Sky or something. In short, it is worth recommending and worth coming again."

GGuest UserThis is the best onsen hotel we’ve stayed in, among those we’ve stayed in for the past 12 years! We stayed here for 2 nights. We’ve extremely grateful to the hosts for their outstanding service and hospitality from the heart. Loved the thoughtfully varied menu for each meal. The establishment is spotlessly clean and excellently maintained. Each morning, our towels and yukata (hotel gowns) were replaced. So were the amenities ( fragrant green tea packs, snacks). The housekeeping staff even offered to mop our rooms after only one night’s stay. The wifi was also fast and sustained well in the guest room and public lounge areas. There are facilities to cater to a wide range of age groups from seniors like us and children too. There were ample resting chairs in the lounge and on the way to the historian’s well as guest rooms. The best facility was the hot springs! They are exactly as depicted in the hotel website. Numerous indoor pools of various temperature all have the renowned ‘beautifying’ odorless alkaline water. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized after only one soak. What’s more the hot springs stay open for in-house guests from 10.30 am to 11 pm and day-trip visitors from 10.30 am to 8 pm. In-house guests can also use the hotsprings early from 6 to 9 am. There is a European dry sauna as well as wet steam rooms in both make and female hotspring areas. We would love to stay here again!

GGuest UserThe hotel is located on Mt. Gero, and you have to take the hotel shuttle bus to get there. However, because the hotel is in the mountains, you can overlook the scenery of Gero. The hotel does not have many hot spring facilities, but the hotel's brunch is very rich, which is similar to other hotels in Oedo Onsen Monogatari.

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is located in Xialv City, the appearance is very awkward, check in is very fast, the lobby staff can speak fluent English, very warm and courteous, you can pick up bathrobes and soak in the hot springs, very comfortable, the room is clean and tidy, the only thing is that there is no shower liquid/shampoo/conditioning in the room, you have to go to the Reception to ask the staff to get it, I hope the hotel will pay attention to . Overall, this hotel has a high price ratio and will stay again next time.
