"Behind the grey walls and blue tiles, you can feel the gentle embrace of times gone by. The courtyard's tree shadows dance with red lanterns, creating a beautiful scene. Inside, the warm light illuminates the original wooden beams. The courtyard itself has been redecorated since my last visit, with tree shadows weaving patterns of light on the flagstones. Every breath here brings a sense of relaxation, so characteristic of Datong. The service is attentive but never intrusive. Here, time slows down to just the right pace, perfect for turning a holiday into poetry. In summary: My favorite and most recommended hotel in Datong! Welcome fruit: So sweet! Minibar: Features local sea buckthorn, a must-try!"

The ancient capital of China, Datong in the world, opens up the heavy historical scroll of Shanxi, and Pingcheng Datong is eye-catching. Pingchengfu is located in the courtyard of No. 34, No. 36 and No. 38, Lihuaijiao, Southeast City Historical and Cultural Street in Datong City. Its location is the location of the Imperial Temple and the Altar of the Soochow of the Northern Wei Dynasty during the Pingcheng period, and it was the core area of the ritual system of the Northern Wei Dynasty at that time. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it gradually became a residential block, and the traditional courtyard pattern has been retained to this day. Dongnanyi Historical and Cultural District is a key cultural and tourism development project in Datong City. It takes the construction concept of "inheriting historical context and retaining the atmosphere of the city". It took five years of restoration and reconstruction through protection, renovation, and repair. It was opened in 2023. The hotel's courtyard No. 38 is one of the reconstructed projects and is a representative traditional house in Southeast City. The historical brilliance of the ancient city streets and alleys has also brought new vitality and texture to the ancient city. First, let us understand the historical origin of Pingcheng Fu. Datong was called Pingcheng in ancient times. The Northern Wei Dynasty was established about 96 years (398-494), and this period was called the "Pingcheng Era". It is the center of politics, economy, religion and culture in northern China in the 4th to 5th centuries. Pingcheng Fu Hotel was grandly opened on July 21, 2025 and was released under this name, returning to the true nature of history and restoring the prosperous era of Pingcheng. There are three courtyards in the hotel, namely: Xuanpuyuan, Kusheju and Sangzhefang; there are 17 rooms in the hotel, all named after the Pingcheng period of the Northern Wei Dynasty, namely: Taihe, Dengguo, Tianxing, Tianci, Yongxing, Shenrui, Taiyan, Shiguang, Yanhe, Zhengping, Chengping, Tai'an, Xing'an, Tian'an, Xingguang, Heping, Huangxing, and Tian'an. The hotel relies on the cultural heritage of the three generations of Beijing and the important towns of the two dynasties to comprehensively enhance the value of the ancient city. Location: Pingcheng Fu is located in the southeast art district of Datong Ancient City. Walking distance to Huayan Temple, Jiulongbi, Daiwang Mansion, and Shanhua Temple. It takes 30 minutes to reach Yungang Grottoes and about 1.5 hours to reach Hanging Temple. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Datong South Station and about 30 minutes to reach Yungang International Airport.

"The environment was incredibly clean and quiet, and the facilities were very modern. The service was exceptionally attentive; the snacks and fruits were all to our taste, and breakfast had everything you could ask for. They frequently offered proactive reminders about complimentary services, and the airport shuttle was a huge plus. The staff, both male and female, were efficient, responsive, and incredibly polite and thoughtful, which made our stay very comfortable. We were extremely satisfied with our choice of hotel this time."

Ruifeng Building Hotel, Datong Ancient City Ruifeng Building Hotel in Datong Ancient City is a premium hotel with the Northern Wei Dynasty theme under the Hongqi Hotel Group. - Location: It is situated on the north side of Qingyuan Street in Datong Ancient City, adjacent to Huayan Temple, with scenic spots like the Nine-Dragon Wall nearby. - Architectural Style: Based on the architectural style of the Northern Wei Dynasty, it adopts a "one axis and five courtyards" layout, integrating elements from Yungang Grottoes and fully demonstrating the "fusion of Hu and Han styles". - Facilities: There are 58 guest rooms on the second floor above ground; a Chinese restaurant on the first floor, mainly serving Datong casserole dishes; multi-functional banquet halls, meeting rooms, etc. on the first and second floors underground, which can accommodate 1,000 people for dining; and a parking lot on the third floor underground with 150 parking spaces.

"The hotel's location is superb; it's the perfect choice for exploring the old city, with all the sights and great food nearby. The hotel is very clean, the restaurant food is delicious, and the staff provide excellent service. As I was traveling alone and wanted to try local specialties, the staff kindly reduced the portion sizes, which was great – tasty and no waste! The room facilities are new, but there's a minor issue: the sink and shower are in separate areas, and the bath towels are kept under the sink. This makes it inconvenient to grab a towel after showering. If you take it into the shower beforehand, there's nowhere to hang it. Perhaps a hook could be added?"

"This was my first time in Datong, and this hotel left me with an excellent impression of the city! The service was superb. Zhao Qingnan at the front desk was beautiful, kind, and provided wonderful service. Seeing that I had a child with me, she upgraded me to a twin room and even thoughtfully gave my child a complimentary breakfast, which was very nice. Everyone I encountered at the hotel was warm and friendly. The security guard in the underground parking lot was especially patient and kept helping me direct my car. The hotel breakfast was also very generous."

"Extremely satisfied! Every day, drinks, teas, coffee capsules are replenished, and the room is cleaned meticulously. The mattress is also super comfortable. The staff are very polite and always greet you. They provide L'Occitane toiletries, which, while not super expensive, show attention to detail and elevate the experience. The breakfast is lavish and starts at 7 AM; I recommend going early as it can get crowded. The restaurant downstairs is delicious, affordable, and no waiting in line – fantastic!"

GGuest UserMy stay at Boli Designer Homestay in Datong Ancient City completely redefined my expectations for high-end guesthouses, offering an immersive slow-paced experience within the ancient city. The guesthouse is nestled in a tranquil alley on Guangfujiao Street. With its grey brick walls and natural wood doors and windows, stepping inside immediately transports you away from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The wabi-sabi garden design is particularly striking, with dry landscape features dotted along the gravel paths. In the afternoon, sunlight streams through the eaves, creating elegant patterns of light and shadow. Every detail in the room showed thoughtful consideration. The minimalist soft furnishings were both luxurious and comfortable, and the bedding was soft and gentle on the skin, allowing me to shed my travel fatigue the moment I lay down. The high-quality toiletries on the vanity were on par with those found in five-star hotels. Even the hairdryer's power and noise control were just right, ensuring a peaceful rest. What truly impressed me was the guesthouse's service. The 24-hour butler was always on call, yet maintained a perfect sense of distance. Upon arrival, they proactively helped with luggage and offered tips for exploring the ancient city. They even arranged complimentary pick-up and drop-off services from the station, saving me the hassle of lugging suitcases around. The evening nightcap and hot soup were delightful surprises; on a chilly ancient city night, sipping warm soup instantly banished the cold. Breakfast was another highlight. The sea cucumber and millet porridge was rich and savory, and the handmade shaomai had thin wrappers and generous fillings, offering an authentic taste of Datong. Paired with refreshing side dishes and freshly ground soy milk, it was the perfect start to an energetic day. The guesthouse's location is also superb. Within a few minutes' walk, you can reach key attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, eliminating the need for crowded transportation and allowing for a leisurely and enjoyable exploration of the ancient city. Upon check-out, the butler even presented a thoughtfully prepared souvenir, a true testament to their sincerity. This stay was absolutely perfect. I've already recommended Boli Designer Homestay to all my friends planning to visit Datong, and I'll definitely choose it again on my next visit to the ancient city! A special thank you to Butler Qiqi, who was incredibly patient and provided excellent service.

1118942****On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me. Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

GGuest UserThe location is excellent, and the overall design and ambiance are great. The service is attentive, and the breakfast was the most satisfying part – a rich selection that included local specialties, Western dishes, Cantonese dim sum, and Chaoshan beef noodles. The downside is that the room is a bit small, and the bathroom faces the balcony. There are no chairs on the balcony, which makes the balcony space feel a bit awkward and wasted given the small room size. The hotel also seems to lack some experience in catering to families with children. Besides drawing, there aren't many other activities or equipment in the kids' activity room. During the Dragon Boat Festival, there was a craft activity, but no aprons were provided, and washable paints weren't used. This resulted in my child's favorite dress being ruined.

TTangyuxiaonazhaI forgot to leave a review before, but even though the facilities aren't top-notch, the environment was quite peaceful. I'm not sure if it was because I requested a quiet room when booking, but our three rooms were on a floor where there were indeed no noisy drunkards or unruly children. Being able to get a good rest makes it a decent hotel. Some hotels, despite having great facilities, have terrible management, which is pointless... Breakfast was average; the lamb offal soup was pretty good, but you can't expect too much from breakfast at this level of hotel. Both service and breakfast were pretty standard, and overall, it wasn't a rip-off.

GGuest UserYou truly appreciate the difference when you have something to compare it to. I first stayed at Datong Hotel thirty years ago, so naturally, it was my top choice for this visit to Datong. Let's start with the 'positives'. For my first night, I chose the VIP building, thinking that with the country's rapid development, hotel accommodations must have advanced significantly. The promotional materials also touted its spacious and new rooms. However, upon checking in, I felt it wasn't worth the price. The front desk clearly had better rooms available but was unwilling to offer them without an additional charge for these 'so-called' superior rooms. It makes me wonder if the front desk staff has ever stayed in a four-star hotel or above. The VIP building's only real 'plus' was its larger space; otherwise, nothing felt particularly impressive. In the VIP building, the bathroom fixtures were broken, the walls didn't appear thoroughly scrubbed, and the carpet was dirty. This judgment was drawn from a direct comparison. Dissatisfied with the VIP building, I decisively checked out and opted for the old building, where I had stayed three decades ago. I was touched by the elderly gentleman at the front desk even before seeing the room. Upon checking in, I discovered that apart from the room size being smaller than in the VIP building, everything else was equally good, if not better. The elderly gentleman at check-in introduced the amenities along the way – his service was truly commendable, and I plan to get his name for a special mention in a future review. The old building's walls were freshly painted, and the carpet was notably cleaner than in the VIP building. The toiletries also felt superior to those in the VIP building. The headboard cushions were clean and tidy, and the curtains were elegantly neat and clean. Suggestions for the old building: The TV is quite old; replacing it shouldn't be too expensive. Attention to detail is crucial: the faucet handles, though old, have a noble appearance. The only imperfection is the missing small cap on the handle – a small blemish on an otherwise noble piece. The bathtub drain was malfunctioning. The shower curtain could be raised slightly higher. Since there are paintings, their frames should be clean and clear. The small cap on the toilet seat was also missing. Most importantly, the bathroom floor was quite slippery; measures should be taken to prevent guests from falling. Additionally, the old building's self-promotion is lacking. Enlarged photos of renowned figures who once stayed here should be displayed prominently. No other hotel in Datong boasts such an honor, and that's precisely your unique selling point.

CCaihuaxiaomeiLet me talk about the pros. The breakfast was quite plentiful and tasty, 68 yuan per person. Our child, being 15, paid an extra 40 yuan. We booked three rooms together. The rooms were decent for a five-star hotel, and the lobby was beautiful. Now for areas for improvement. Aside from the good security guard at the entrance, the service could be better. Since it's a hot spring hotel, the hot spring itself is important, but it was rather mediocre. Of the 12 pools, some were 58 degrees Celsius, some 48 degrees, and only a few were usable and small. Also, because so many people were crammed into a few pools, they became quite dirty. All three families stayed for an hour before leaving. There were too many access control points. For a hotel in such a remote area, I don't understand why there were so many access control points and card swiping systems; it was very inconvenient. I didn't intend to give a low score because the front desk gave us a complimentary breakfast, which was a concession.
