Yunzhong Inn is located in Gulou West Street on the north side of the old town of Datong, Shanxi province. It is a hotel with traditional Chinese courtyard buildings and exceptional facilities. It is a quiet stay within walking distance to Datong's must-see attractions including the Huayan Monastery, Nine-dragon Wall, Mosque, Chunyang Palace, Drum Tower, Shanhua Temple, Guandi Temple, Wen Temple and other historical sites.
Datong is a famous historical and cultural city in China. It is one of the nine ancient capitals and its history began as early as 2400 years ago. It was the capital of Northern Wei and the Western Capital of the Liao and Jin dynasty as well as a major city in many other dynasties.
Around the main courtyard are 18 rooms with different features. Each room has its own unique color, lighting, and decorations. These include paintings, woodcarvings, stone-carvings, brick-carvings and other antique items reflect the historical charm of traditional Chinese culture. Moreover, the hotel owners express their welcome and blessing to all the guests by carefully naming each guest room with a special name.
The reception hall is magnificent with paintings covering the ceiling. Behind it is a wall decorated with a Chinese gatehouse. The recreation area is separated by an antique woodcarving.
"I've wanted to stay here for a long time, and this family trip finally made that dream come true. The check-in experience was excellent, and the facilities showed incredible attention to detail. The complimentary toiletries pack even included electric toothbrushes and Gillette razors, and all the snacks provided were from Sam's Club. Breakfast was exceptional – an à la carte style where they'd prepare whatever you ordered. Everything tasted fantastic, and there were plenty of choices. Enjoying delicious pastries in the courtyard under the sun was a truly wonderful experience!
In the evening, friends came over, and we sat on the courtyard sofa, chatted, drank tea, and watched the clouds in the night sky. We even caught a drone show from Dai Wang Mansion, which was truly delightful! We also toured the owner's private museum and wine cellar. It certainly lives up to its reputation as a courtyard built with 200 million yuan; the main gate in the middle is 200 years old. Every detail exudes taste and grandeur!
The service was excellent too. Although there weren't many staff members, they were very responsive. When my shoes got wet in the heavy rain, they even brought a hairdryer to dry them for me – I was truly grateful! In short, the value for money at this price is unbeatable! Five-star recommendation! 👍👍👍👍👍
Overall, a fantastic stay, but I do have a few suggestions to offer:
1. Only the door could be opened for ventilation in the room; the windows didn't open. It would be great if there was a way to allow for cross-ventilation.
2. The hotel doesn't provide parking vouchers. While overnight parking was only 20 yuan, offering vouchers would enhance the guest experience.
3. Perhaps due to concerns about some guests occupying a room with too many people, I was repeatedly asked during check-in how many individuals were staying in our room, which I found a bit off-putting."
