3-Star Hotels in Penang, Malaysia

The bedsheets had visible stains, which was quite disappointing and made the bed feel unhygienic and uncomfortable. For a hotel stay, I would expect the bedsheets to be clean and properly inspected before the room is given to guests. I hope the hotel can improve its housekeeping standards and ensure that stained linens are replaced promptly.

The room was really unique and interesting, an experience I'd never had before. The location is excellent too; you can walk to all the nearby photo-op spots, and the closest restaurants are all delicious. Walking to Clan Jetties is also no problem. The free bus stop is just across the street, which is super convenient. I highly recommend staying here for both the ambiance and location. The Indian staff members at the hotel were all very friendly and would greet us proactively. We arrived at the hotel around 12 PM, right after our flight. One of the staff members said we could check-in early at 1:30 PM, so we left our luggage at the front desk and went out for lunch, thinking we could come back, change, and head out for some sightseeing and photos. However, when we returned at the appointed time, a different female staff member told us we couldn't check in until 2:30 PM. I simply mentioned that I was previously told we could check in at 1:30 PM, and she immediately became upset, telling me not to pressure or rush her. To accommodate her mood, my family of three quietly sat with her in the lobby for half an hour. After that, she simply announced that it was time to check in, without having received any calls or anything – it was just the scheduled time. All the other staff members at this hotel were very enthusiastic, but she was always unhappy and gave us a cold shoulder whenever we saw her. I hope she can find some happiness. I understand that the official check-in time is 3 PM. I was just trying to discuss an earlier check-in. If I had been told from the start that early check-in wasn't possible, I would have taken a taxi to a more distant area to explore and returned later. Travel time is limited, and I want to plan my trips more efficiently, not waste time waiting in a hotel lobby to check in. I'm not here to accompany her at work, and I hope she can be more professional and consider the needs of travelers. I really hope other guests staying here don't encounter her; everything else was perfect.

I didn’t really enjoy my stay here, I found the labyrinth of corridors could be confusing, and something off about the layout of the room.  One of the neighbouring rooms had a party one night, so I didn’t get enough sleep; the location is alright, walking distance from anywhere in Georgetown, but nothing specific.   The breakfast was underwhelming in my opinion, lacking protein options - just the eggs really, frankfurters don’t count.  I think I’ll try elsewhere in Penang if I go back.

I had a pleasant stay at Summer Tree Hotel Penang. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and offers great value for money. The room was spacious, well maintained, and the bed was comfortable, making it a relaxing place to rest after exploring Penang. The location is convenient, with plenty of local eateries, cafés, and popular attractions within a short drive or walking distance. The staff were friendly, helpful, and check-in/check-out was smooth. One thing to note is that the walls are a little thin, so you may occasionally hear noise from neighboring rooms or the hallway. Parking can also be limited during busy periods. Overall, it’s a great choice for travelers looking for an affordable, clean, and conveniently located hotel in George Town. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Penang.

My second time in this hotel and never disappoints. Room is extra large, quiet and comfortable. Hotel is somewhat a 90's time tunnel but still evergreen , well maintained. Onsite car park is not free and quite costly, had to park somewhere nearby and walk towards it. Few eateries located opposite the hotel, more can be found further away but not within short walking distance.

The picture in online is quite nice, but the actual staying is quite shocking 😅 When we first enter the lobby, we are impressed, cos for an old shop lot, the lobby is giving a good impression with it's bright lighting and cleanliness. Then we faced several difficulties that we need to highlight for all visitors who wish to book this hotel (for the owner also, I hope you see my review and make some improvement that will definitely increase your customers and rebooking) 1. We changed room for three times. The [first room No. 29] is with a big hole/maintenance door in bathroom ceiling that exposed all the electrical wire which may caused danger to life. Some more got a line of ants all around the room ceiling and floor. The [second room No. 32] is quite nice, bright and comfortable but the water heater is not working with no hot water and the water pressure is so small. Then finally we changed to a good one. 2. The price we paid is for room with window, but I rather don't want cos it doesn't play any purpose except as a decoration, at the same time without curtain! (All the rooms we changed are without curtains) So anyone can look into our room when we have the lights on 😅 3. Super helpful front desk. The owner should reward the Sabahan lady who helps us to change room. She walks up and down to get us a comfortable room. We really appreciate it a lot 🙏🏻🥰 If not, I'll leave a really really bad review here cos we are really tire with all the hassles 😒 4. For those who like to stay upstairs (first/second floor), there's no lift, so you will need to climb stairs. Bringing elderly or OKU, can only stay at ground floor. 5. All the rooms we been to has a common issue -- it's not basic clean 😅 The toilet has urine stain, the bedsheet has 2-3 hairs on it, and the table and teacup are definitely not for use one (I don't dare to use 🤣) 6. The last room we stay has flies and we smashed them onto wall cos we're too tire to wait and change a new room aldy. At least we finally get a room with hot bath water. 7. Soundproof is not good. In the room, we can hear the sound of people talking and passing the hall, and the car honking. For us is ok, cos we are deep sleeper, but for those who are sensitive, I don't think you will get a good sleep here 🤣 Overall, the good things of this hotel: 1. It's budget, so ok lah 2. The front desk is helpful and responsive 3. The overall amenities still ok (available: free filter water, TV with wifi, mirror in bathroom, water heater; NOT available: no toilet tissue, no hangers but it has hanging rack) So conclusion is, if you're just need a place to bath and sleep, then may consider here. In my opinion, it will not be a good place for 'enjoy hotel time'. So it makes sense for the price paid. Thank you for attending to us.

Strategic location. Feeling alive in the middle of georgetown. Room was spacious and cheap hotel. Parking limited but depends on situation. Lots of restaurant near hotel

This hotel is right next to the airport. When you check in, just mention to the front desk that you need airport transfer service, and they'll help you arrange it. The area around the hotel is quite sparse, with not much to explore. You can take a taxi to Queensbay Mall if you want to go shopping. The breakfast buffet is 35 MYR per person and is generally decent, though it's a shame they don't have coffee available. Getting around mainly relies on taxis. Fortunately, taxi fares in Penang aren't too high. However, be aware that traffic can get quite congested during morning and evening rush hours, so it's a good idea to allow for some extra travel time.

It’s very accessible to any area you want to go within the town (by walk). Just a heads up - it’s super lively on saturday night on this alley, you can anticipating it. But the soundproof is pretty good, we still get a good sleep. Driving there is okay, but parking is limited on first come first serve basis. Room are spacious and clean. Basic amenities are available, not much but good enough (iron and water cooler is at the hallway btw). Overall verdict : All good, i would recommend it !

Located in the city center, it's very convenient for transportation. Right outside, you'll find the famous Pasar Lebuh Cecil (highly recommend the duck kway teow soup), and there are many other great eateries nearby. It's also a very short taxi ride to attractions like the Clan Jetties and Mural Street, and you can walk to First Avenue Mall for shopping and currency exchange. The room is quiet and comfortable, with relatively new facilities overall. There's also a small swimming pool and a gym. The staff are very friendly! Thank you for the upgrading for our 15th wedding anniversary celebration. It is truly a memorable and wonderful trip for us. The female staff who assisted with our check-in and check-out was very nice!
