"I stayed at Grapèlli Boutique Hotel for 3 nights while I was in the area for business. It's a beautiful building in a great location in Alkmaar, close to the cheese market and restaurants and shops. I walked to it from the train station - an easy 15 minute walk. There is no food (other than a vending machine) and limited services at the hotel, but there are grocery stores and restaurants a short walk away, and the room had a small kitchen with refrigerator. The default communications with the hotel is via Whatsapp (so I would recommend installing that on your phone if you don't have it) and they provide a link for unlocking the exterior door and room door from your phone. They also can provide a physical key card if required. My room was well supplied, clean, and large, but it was dark, with no windows (only small skylights) and minimal room lighting. A frustration was the ceiling light in the bathroom, which would switch on based on a motion sensor. This is fine, except for during a middle-of-the-night bathroom visit where a nightlight would be preferable rather than full-on lights. My room did not have AC (I believe some do in the hotel) but it did have a ceiling fan. The nights were cool when I stayed there, so it wasn't too uncomfortable, but it was still a little warmer than I wanted for sleeping. I would suggest ensuring you get a room with AC for summer months. My first night, I did find the room noisy for sleeping with nearby birds (gulls or pigeons?) making noise and nearby chimes from a church or clock tower going every 15 minutes all through the night. The chimes were charming during the day, but less so at 3:15am, 3:30am, 3:45am, etc. I fixed this for my remaining nights by using ear plugs and having my ceiling fan on high for some white noise."

"While visiting Alkmaar in August 2024, after a beautiful boat trip through the canals, we noticed this lovely terrace beside the dock where our boat was leaving from. It was a sunny day and we found a great spot on the terrace outside with a lovely view. The staff was friendly, but when the terrace got busy it seems there was not enough staff to serve everybody. While we sat outside the bells of the nearby Waagh started to play old melodies."

"A weekend in Alkmaar and this hotel right across from the station. A friendly welcome, the rooms are in adjacent buildings. We had a room on the first floor, the stairs are a bit narrow and steep. The beds a bit soft for our taste, but the climate in the room is good and the sanitary facilities new. We did not have breakfast."
