Pousada Convento de Arraiolos – Historic Hotel ★★★★

"The pousda is a lovely 16th century convent which has been converted into a hotel, set in the middle of the countryside but just outside the small town. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are comfortable. However, we were there at a rainy period and the hotel is too cavernous and a little soulless to be cosy for that. My greatest disappointment though was the way that the stunning and architecturally important church was treated. It was full of pigeons, nesting in the altar and perching on the ancient gilt statues. When I brought this to the attention of the receptionist, I was told that the management know this but there is little she can do as the church doors need to be left wide open for the guests. Why????? Can’t guests open a door? What will happen is that the pigeons will damage everything in the church despite the management knowing about it. Shame on them!!"

"Beautiful guesthouse with nice clean pool. Lovely rooms, very clean and well equipped. Absolutely delicious breakfast. Maria the host was lovely and went out of her way to provide food for my coeliac daughter and even bought her a brand new toaster to prevent any cross contamination. Close to a couple of lovely restaurants and supermarkets. Would recommend 😍"
