"You pay your money...and all that. However....We dropped for a pre ferry night. All checked in and got in room which was mediocre at best. Kettle didnt work and realised that no wall sockets worked. (Apparantly this is common practise in some establishments, not saying that they did , of course) Went to reception and found them using their computer to check others in, which i found strange. We tackled him and he stated that the electric on that day had stopped 1 hour before we arrived and th ere was "no engineers" available. (Sounds familiar). We retreated to the room to open the fridge with remnants of food and meat blood in the top. We tackled him again and he visited... we went for food and still the fridge had not been cleaned. In fact they just ignored us and we never saw them again . Never got electric sockets and that was that. Oh....the river view is a look over a storm type drain. We gave them a week to respond to a really fair and constructive email but here we are...writing this review. Avoid this place..."

"Highly recommended. Alex was very friendly and helpful, breakfast (self service) was great, price is of good value, bed was comfy, and the house built in 1834 was historical and well maintained. Only complaint is probably the low shower water pressure though, but it is not an issue considering the age of this house."

"Probably the most welcoming hotel I've ever visited! We booked 1 room for 4 adults last minute, because the place we were supposed to stay at cancelled on us when we'd got here. The lady who runs the place even gave us a second room free of charge when we got here! The hotel is conveniently located just a couple of mins walk from the town, sea front etc but just out the way enough that there's no noise. The hotel is stunningly decorated & furnished, and is very very clean. The lady who runs the hotel is so lovely. She was so friendly, chatty & happy to offer tips of places of interest, restaurants and so on. Every evening there was some kind of complimentary sweet treat in the entrance like muffins and biscuits. Then, our first morning there were complimentary croissants and pan au chocolate. On our last morning she invited us down to the restaurant where she put on a breakfast spread! Eggs, omelette, hash browns, sausage, bacon, baked beans, toast, jams, marmalade, honey, tea, coffee! She couldn't do enough for us, she's just soo lovely! We will definitely come again, couldn't recommend enough!"

"The cleanliness of this family-run guesthouse was reassuring; the sheets and blankets smelled of sunshine, the tables and floors were spotless, and even the corners of the bathroom were impeccably clean. "If you want to lose your money... I made a reservation via *********** at the Alma Hostel. When I arrived at the hotel, no one answered the door, the door was locked, and the windows were boarded up. No one answered the phone. There's a gas station across the street, and the employees told me it was closed, that it used to be a pub, but the owner was an alcoholic. I called *********** to see if they could intervene, but they didn't get a response either. I went to the police. They took me to the Travel Lodge in Dover. They charged my card £50 for the reservation, which I never got back."
