"This is a fabulous place for an authentic Japanese holiday. The location is beautiful. The outdoor hot spring bathing area is clean and looks like a movie set. The included meals are generous in portion size and are delicious. Our room overlooked the river and it was great. Tatami floors and shoji screen windows. This is an old and historic place and does not cater to western norms. You sleep on futons on the floor. Only Japanese food is available. But it is a wonderful place to spend some time."

"The hotel is not far from the station, about a five-minute drive away. Near the hotel is Tianyi Art Museum whose owner is an artist of traditional Shakuhachi musical instruments. The decoration and details of the hotel are very artistic. Inadvertently found a hotel with a local traditional culture atmosphere. You need to make an appointment if you have a private soup, and you can see the outdoor scenery. Public soups for men and women are separated and served 24 hours a day. The breakfast is delicious and authentic with local specialties. The dinner will provide musical instrument performance and experience. Interesting."

"It was a short walk away from the Minakami Onsen bus stop and the room was clean. Loved the private onset overlooking the river as well. We didn't have breakfast there as the price was a little steep for us (~27 SGD) but there's a nearby bakery and other F&B, so food was not an issue. They provide PJs and a cardigan to put over as well. Staff was nice too."

"We were in Hoshi Onsen 25 years ago, and we loved it so much that we decided to visit it once more during our recent Japan trip. Hoshi is one of the most traditional and older onsen in Japan, with more than one hundred years of history. Walking in its corridors or lingering in Hoshi-no-yu (the main indoor bath) you can really feel as if time had completely stopped and as you have plunged in a remote era. Yet it provides any possible comfort. Important renovations have been made, but always with great taste and respectful of tradition. Dinner is excellent and also the open air bath is really beautiful. The surroundings are also very nice and deserve a walk. It is a bit expensive, but no doubt worth the price"

"Feel like home is an ancient ryokan hotel. But the inside looks clean and modern, the owner takes good care of it like a relative. There is a large public bath separate men and women. The room itself is spacious, not uncomfortable. If coming again, I will book here again. Recommended"

"3 different types of onsen , amazing breakfast with huge selection of food, amazing spacious rooms with an amazing view of the river. Only spent 1 night here but would’ve easily stayed another if we had time. The building is well maintained and the onsen was so good I had 3 sessions even though we were only here for 1 night. "The staff was very good. I am very satisfied that I can enjoy the food and eat various dishes little by little. I didn't get tired of watching the murals in the bath. "The location is a bit remote, the elderly male reception staff is very enthusiastic, the room space is large and well maintained, but it feels like the age of the building. "What impressed me most was the excellent breakfast and dinner! I highly recommend staying at this onsen hotel when visiting Gunma. The main dish for dinner was sukiyaki, which was delicious, and each dish was prepared with great care. The food here is really tasty! This time, I stayed in a room with a private open-air onsen bath. The onsen quality here is very high; the spring water isn't heated, allowing you to soak while enjoying the view of Mount Tanigawa. The service was impeccable in every detail, including specially provided pajamas and decaffeinated roasted tea served at night. The next morning, you can also enjoy complimentary coffee while admiring Mount Tanigawa again."
