Hotel Riu Karamboa - All Inclusive - Adults Only ★★★★★
"I would like to give 5 stars but I think 4 is fair. The staff are very friendly especially the bar staff (the female ones) to the left of the main event areas. Staff in restaurants were nice. I agree with previous reviews around if this is a 5 star hotel (on paper), a more welcoming greeting on arrival would be nice. We liked all the à la carte restaurants. We had a swim up room and have spent most of our time here. It has been an unnecessary battle to get the optics refilled which were almost empty on our arrival. 3 calls and 2 emails to reception isn’t acceptable. I do find it rather strange that so many people return here year after year. We have been on 5 holidays this year. This isn’t a bad hotel but I agree with previous reviews around too big, too impersonal. I much prefer smaller Greek hotels so this is a total extreme the other end of the spectrum. I personally find the swimming pool areas like something out of Benidorm (tv show). However as we tried to avoid that area if others like it then so be it. The deckchairs are way too close together but there are always some available. The sim up pool to the bar looks horrific to me. I dare not imagine how many people pee in there! The biggest issue here for me is the ‘canteen’. I work in a school and we better organise the kids in our canteen. It’s frankly chaotic and awful. I hate every night when we can’t get the other restaurants and have to face it. Even in the Italian and Asian it’s still a bit of a grab everything you can but nothing compares to the buffet. Having been to multiple AI resorts, the only one I’ve seen as bad as this was in Tunisia. They had to implement a sitting system and tbh I think you do here as well. It shouldn’t be a chaotic fight to get food that has cost so much money and supposedly 5 star. Or in the very least what I’ve seen in other hotels is a sign saying ‘these are the quieter times’. A bit of advice. I asked the staff but they didn’t seem to think it was ever calm! By the time you’ve joined the multiple queues and got a bit more food the first bits are Cold. This is not the staff issue it is management who are not seeing or dealing with the issues. I believe the staff here are some of the most loveliest staff I’ve seen in a holiday. They are extremely dedicated and work really hard. Make it easier for the main buffet staff by resolving the issues there somehow."
Vila Cristina ★★★★
"Location place face to sea, cosy, beautiful decoration, equipped kitchen. Taxi service available, restaurant and bar nearby. Villa near the airport. Very available, reactive with optimal communication via whatsapp. Super stay"
Riu Palace Boavista - All Inclusive ★★★★★
"Great place but if coming with children you are restricted. Even teenagers under 18 can’t participate even in Kareoke"
Occidental Boa Vista Beach ★★★★
"Overall, it was a nice and welcoming hotel, but it didn't start off well. Was told on arrival ( only 10 minutes away from the airport ) that I had missed lunchtime sitting, but wasn't told food was available elsewhere, so I had to wait till evening the meal. Was given my room number and keys and off I went to find my room. On finding my room, I found the electric card to be too big for the electric slot, so a trip back to reception for another card. Back to my room only to find, tv and AC remotes didn't work. Quick look at the remote controls to find springs in remotes were rusty. I did a quick clean of both, and both started working. Unpacked, went to put items into the safe, only to find that not working. Didn't bother going back to reception , couldn't be bothered so did the whole week without a safe, but I'm sure it would have been looked at, but by that time I just wanted to chill. Overall, the room was okay but showing its age. Nice hot shower and comfortable bed and linen. Be mindful , most of the paths are cobbled stone, so if you're not too good on your legs, be careful. You have to be early to get a sunbed round the pool and also the same for on the beach. The pool was clean, and I've never seen a pool be cleaned so much in my life. Only stopped around the pool on the first day, as I found it to noisy all day for my liking. Actives going off in the daytime and music being played all day. Spent a rest of the time on the beach. Lifeguards are on duty all day. Red flagged all day as the sea is so strong, be aware. I couldn't fault the food, with plenty of hot and cold food served breakfast, lunchtime, and dinner. Help yourself to soft drinks, water, beer, and wine at lunch and dinner in the restaurant. Fresh pizzas were made on site, which was nice to see. Beware of the wild cats, if you're sitting outside who will watch every mouthfull of food you have. All staff were amazing, front front of house, to back of house staff. WiFi is not the best, and you will only get good service if you're next to the repection, everywhere else is hit and miss. Amazing sunsets every night. Couldn't fault the alcohol saying it was all-inclusive. Would I go again? Definitely not a no, but price would have to be competitive."
VOI Praia de Chaves Resort ★★★★
"We are in the resort now. Celebrating my husbands 60th birthday. Our room is nice, spotless, cleaned to high standard every day. You can ask for tea making supplies if you want them in your room. We are furthest from reception and pool areas so nice and quiet and it’s a nice enough walk. Paths are swept every morning, underneath the sun loungers could do with sweeping daily too. There are plenty of sun loungers and no need to rush to put your towels out but some still do! Public areas and facilities are clean and tidy. The coffee machines in the dining area are a bit unreliable. There’s some chipped crockery and the plates are cold. Food is plentiful, lots of choice however as with all buffet style meals food is not as hot as we like. Drinks in the bar areas are very good, no complaints. Most of the staff are very pleasant and accommodating. One or two appear to be less so and some need to smarten up to create a good impression. 2 staff members we found sleeping on sofas in the reception during their night shift. This does not create a 5 star impression. UK visitors are definitely a tiny minority of the hotel but we feel our needs have been accommodated. We are enjoying our stay and this is our honest opinion."
