The Glen Guesthouse

The Glen Guesthouse ★★★

📍 Yarrow Terrace, Selkirk

"Stayed at the Glen Hotel with my 2 teenage children. The triple family room was spacious and the beds very comfortable, a double and 2 singles. The bedding was excellent and just what we needed after a very strenuous day. The shower room is compact but the water hot and plentiful. The in room refreshments were generous with biscuits for all and enough hot chocolate not to cause a dispute. The breakfast was excellent. Requests made the night before meant the table was laid with the juices and drinks we wanted and the best cooked breakfast I have enjoyed in a long time arrived promptly. We needed to leave at a specific time and the owners made sure there was no delay over breakfast. I stay in a lot of hotels around the country for my children's sporting events and The Glen Hotel was a lovely retreat to recharge for the next days competition and leave with a really lovely breakfast inside us. Thank you"

"Lovely quiet hotel with the best breakfast I've ever had. Beautiful local ingredients cooked to perfection. So big we didn't eat again till dinner. The homemade steak and ale pie was like vely, full of tender meat and really took some finishing. My wife's fish and chips were cooked to perfection"

The Gordon Arms Restaurant with Rooms ★★★

📍 Yarrow Valley, Selkirk

"Absolutely lovely place for our Anniversary weekend. If you’re a foodie like we are, it’s a must. This historic inn dating from 1750 is in the beautiful Yarrow valley, between Selkirk & Peebles in the Scottish Borders . The rooms are comfortable, cosy & so quiet. Looking out over the surrounding green fields whilst the swallows wheeled around the rooftops was magical. With a choice of Tasting menu or a la carte, the quality & presentation of the food is excellent. Breakfast in the morning was just right with perfect scrambled egg The team at the Gordon Arms is so friendly - we felt at home right away."

Philipburn Hotel, BW Signature Collection ★★★★
"Just back from a lovely short break in the Borders staying in the Philipburn hotel. We chose a garden room and were allocated Room 20 - it was spacious, extra large bed, super comfortable mattress and topper, and great pillows. Two comfortable arm chairs where we could sit and take in the view down to the garden through the large patio doors, or we could sit outside on the garden furniture on the private decking. The room (and the whole hotel) was spotless. The room even had a fridge, large enough for a couple of small bottles. Good sized spotless bathroom with lots of towels. Good electric shower with lots of hot water. Breakfast is quick and efficient. Pre-order means that you can choose exactly what you want with minimal waste to the hotel. We tried the full breakfast, kippers, porridge and the continental options over the three days. It was all hot, fresh and spot on. We heard other guests commenting the same. We ate in the restaurant on two of the three nights - the quality of the food was excellent. Staff were chatty and attentive and keen to please. Can't go wrong with three courses for £30 and a very reasonably priced wine list as well. Don't let the pre-ordering put you off - fill in your choices in the morning or if you are out and about send an email in the afternoon and it is all sorted. Gardens were extensive and immaculately kept. It was nice to sit by the lawn in the sun, or wander round through the trees pre or post dinner. Each morning we got some fish food from reception to feed the fish in the pond. Thanks to everyone at the Philipburn - Adrian, Graham, Declan and all the other staff who's names we didn't manage to catch."

"Had a nice curry here, very polite and attentive owner. Reasonably priced in a very tastefully newly refurbished dining area. We would definitely recommend the curries here and will return when next in Selkirk."
