Kijani Hotel ★★★

📍 Ocean Front, Shela

"The room was a 5 star accommodation. There were three of us, the floor was divided into two sections, the master bedroom was off in a down stairs with a queen bed and mosquito netting resembling a princess suite, off from the bed was a veranda that over looked the bay. There were the view was a scenic fishing village, absolutely stunning! The upper room was divided by a foyer the looked out over the pool and beautiful crafted landscape. The bathroom was something out of a spa where the shower did not require a curtain or separate entrance. The upper room was spacious with windows all around. With a gentle bellowing breeze. Restaurant was quaint and served the most delicious food. The waiter recommended our meals each night and we were never disappointed. Absolutely delicious food and service."

"Went to Kijani for supper recently. Great spot on the sea although the restaurant doesn't make much of this as the restaurant is at the back with no view of the sea. Nice, helpful staff but we had to wait too long for the food (at least 45 mins and restaurant not full); food was fine, nothing special but fine."

The Majlis Resort ★★★★★
"Our stay at the Majlis Hotel was unfortunately very disappointing, especially considering how much we paid. We booked some of the nicest rooms in the hotel and expected a level of service that matched the price, but that simply wasn’t our experience. One of the biggest issues was the restaurant. As vegetarians, we found there were very few options available, making meals frustrating throughout our stay. To make matters worse, many of the items listed on the menu were unavailable, and it seemed like the hotel was constantly sold out of food we wanted to order. The service was also consistently slow, which only added to the disappointment. That said, there were two staff members who truly stood out. Melony, who worked in the restaurant, was kind, caring, and clearly worked very hard despite the challenges around her. She always did her best to help. The biggest highlight of our stay was Samuel, the pool attendant. He was, without question, the best part of our experience. Samuel worked incredibly hard every day, was exceptionally caring toward every member of our family, and always had a warm, welcoming attitude. He went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and was genuinely one of the nicest people we met during our trip. He deserves recognition for the outstanding service he provides. Unfortunately, while a few exceptional employees made a positive impression, they couldn’t make up for the overall poor experience. For the amount we paid, we expected much better food availability, more vegetarian options, and a much higher standard of service."

"I decided to join my husband on a week’s salt water fly fishing expedition, except I cannot fly fish. So I indulged in a week long culinary experience literally trying every fish dish on a rather extensive menu. Chef Ray is amazing! The food is world class and to think that all supplies are bussed in or flown in with a short water transfer to the hotel. The hotel is perfectly situated on the beach and has very comfortable rooms with WiFi. The pool area is just beautiful and one can easily spend all day in the water admiring the view. A subset cruise in a traditional dhow is a must as is a massage with Mercy - the best I have ever had! Proprietor Carol is a fountain of local knowledge and so accommodating. The staff are attentive and the cocktails kept on flowing! I am about to enjoy my last pot of Kenya Gold tea on my veranda….. and hope to be back next year!"
