"Having stayed in many capsule hotels, this one offered the best experience by far. It has a large public bath and individual shower rooms, as well as a common lounge. Plus, there's a free lactic acid drink served in the afternoon. Most other hotels require guests to check out by 10 AM, but this one has no such strict rule, allowing residents to return to the hotel for a rest during midday, which makes traveling much more convenient and flexible. There's also a supermarket and duty-free shop nearby, which is very handy. The only downside is that the transportation isn't as convenient as I'd hoped. While it's easy to get there by bus, the bus frequency is quite low, and if you take the subway, it's at least a 15-minute walk. I'd definitely choose this chain of capsule hotels again!"

"Cute place to stay in a spacious mixed dorm. The dorm was well designed with lockers and lots of small shelves next to the bed plus a sink in the room. Bed was a little hard but not terrible. Found the self check-in process very convenient and clearly explained, you have to pay city tax and any extra charges separately before check-out, which you can do online with a qr code or cash if you have the exact amount. Nice to experience a more traditional building in Kyoto. The free rice porridge and teas and coffee was a great bonus. Plenty of convenience shops nearby and right near Kyoto Station. Overall a really relaxing and cosy place to stay!"

"Here's an elaborated version of your hotel review: I had the pleasure of traveling in January 2026, and looking back, choosing this hotel was without a doubt one of the best decisions I made for my trip. From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in good hands. The experience exceeded my expectations in every way. The staff were warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure my stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The accommodations were impeccably maintained, offering everything I needed to feel right at home — even while away from home. Whether it was the quality of the rooms, the amenities on offer, or simply the overall atmosphere of the place, everything came together to create a truly memorable stay. It was the kind of hotel that makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another booking. If you're planning a trip and considering where to stay, I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel without any hesitation. It perfectly blended comfort, convenience, and hospitality in a way that is genuinely hard to find. I will absolutely be returning on my next visit, and I encourage anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable place to stay to give it a try — you won't be disappointed!"

"So its very near the temples and attractions so thats nice. Also away from the kyoto station so consider that if youre also into that. The hostel allowed me to leave my bag before and after checkout so thats perfect. It is also clean and well maintained, though toilet locks can be a bit tricky. They also have a cafe below, then a place to hangout with people and strangers. Have small kitchen with everything in it. They dont have free rental towel so heres that but its fine. Overall i will recommend this to my friends."

"Fab capsule hotel! The only thing that I would change is how loud the blinds are but that was only a minor issue. The bathroom even had two rooms that were fully equipped with baths! I’ve never seen that in a hostel before. Great location, everything was spotless, the staff were lovely, overall 10/10. Thank you!"

"Kyoto Inn: Overview • The Vibe: Exceptional. The property stands out for its positive energy and welcoming community of travelers and staff. • Human Connection: A great spot to meet locals and fellow travelers, making it easy to share experiences. • Atmosphere: Highly recommended for those prioritizing a friendly, high-energy environment. Important Logistics to Note While the stay is overwhelmingly positive, there are two practical details to keep in mind regarding luggage: 1. Locker Size: The on-site lockers are not designed for large suitcases or bulky hiking packs. It is best suited for smaller valuables or day bags. 2. Deposit Policy: Be prepared to provide a security deposit for locker usage. It’s a good idea to have some spare yen in cash ready upon arrival for this. Quick Tips for Your Stay • Luggage Strategy: If you are traveling with large bags, consider using a Takkyubin (luggage forwarding service) to send your heavy gear to your next destination, or check if the front desk can store larger items in a common area. • Socializing: Take advantage of the common areas in the evening; it sounds like the best part of the experience happens there. It's great that you had such a human-centric experience! Kyoto is a city that really rewards taking the time to connect with the people around you."

In order to ensure the utmost level of relaxation, the guestrooms feature an inviting design and are equipped with all basic necessities, creating a delightful stay experience. To ensure your satisfaction, certain rooms in the apartment come fitted with air conditioning for a more pleasant stay.

"A decent hostel with an excellent location near Gion in NE Kyoto, and very near to a station with direct trains to Osaka. The room was OK in size but very bare, only a double bed and tiny shelves for nightstands. It was a shame as you could easily fit a table/ chairs/ small wardrobe in here which would make it much easier for storing things instead of on the floor! Shared bathroom was OK, and only one shared shower for our floor, thankfully it was always free when we needed it. It was quite expensive for what it was so slightly disappointing, but I guess Kytoto is now a very expensive city to stay in."

GGuest UserThe location is fantastic, with convenient access to public transportation, as the bus/tram stop is right next door. It's a straight shot to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and Nijo Castle and Kyoto Imperial Palace are very close by. The hostel is within a 15-minute walk of the Kamo River and Hanamikoji. You can also take a direct bus to attractions like the Philosopher's Path. The area is lively, with plenty of shops and malls nearby. The room is quite quiet. The front desk staff doesn't speak Chinese, only English and Japanese. The main topics of communication were confirming accommodation details, collecting accommodation tax, asking if paid pajamas were needed, noting that one key card opens all locks, and providing the room number and floor (my female dorm was on the first floor, to the left of the elevator once you enter). Disposable toiletries can be picked up near the elevator. Overall, it's clean and hygienic. The vanity area/showers/toilets/individual locker area/washing machine (not sure if it's coin-operated) are all available. The functional area signs aren't very obvious; the toilets are located within the washroom area.

MMumutu0417My Kyoto trip was particularly satisfying with this Kyoto townhouse. It had a garden, a private hot spring bath, and was brimming with Japanese charm. The breakfasts were especially delightful, with a wide variety and different dishes each day. After breakfast, there was also a traditional Kyoto matcha and carefully selected sweets; the owner even patiently explained the proper way to drink the matcha. It's a bit far from the subway, but there are several bus stops nearby, making it quite convenient. Strolling along Kyoto's charming streets and discovering hidden gems of little shops was also a delightful experience.

SshoTTshoI booked this hostel because I was going to Mt. Fuji the next morning, and it's very convenient as it's close to Kyoto Station. The guy at the front desk was really nice and gave me a lot of helpful information during check-in. The common area on the first floor was quite busy in the evenings with people eating, and it's very well-equipped, even having a fridge, which was great. The sleeping areas were quiet, and the other girls in my dorm were also very quiet at night, so I had a good rest. Earplugs were also provided in the room if needed. Overall, it's a fantastic hostel! ☺️

SsinabroayaI was looking for a quiet guesthouse in Kyoto, and this one, a clean, 4-story building located in a residential area, fit the bill perfectly. The laundry facilities, shower room, kitchen, and lounge on the second floor were great. I enjoyed cooking my own meals and listening to music there – it was a really comfortable experience. From the 5th-floor rooftop, I could see Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sanjusangendo Temple. Kyoto Tower was also visible in the distance. Kamo River is nearby, so I went for runs in the mornings. Being a Class 1 water source, I saw many winter migratory birds and various other birds. I also saw many couples on dates and people taking photos. With Shichijo subway station right next door, I could get to Shijo Station in the city center directly. It was also convenient for trips to Uji City and Osaka. Attractions like Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Fushimi Inari-taisha, Kyoto National Museum, Sanjusangendo Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, Kyoto Women's University, and Kyoto University of Arts and Design are all close by. I often had lunch at the cafeteria of Kyoto University of Arts and Design before exploring in the afternoon. There's also a restaurant on the first floor where you can eat while looking out at the road towards Kamo River. There's a Sapporo Ramen shop nearby – I recommend the slightly spicy one for 1350 yen. There's also a CoCo Ichibanya Curry House. I tried the handmade tonkatsu with extra vegetables for 1380 yen – it was delicious! Additionally, there's an unmanned store selling frozen gyoza and frozen dim sum. I highly recommend the frozen dim sum, all for 1,000 yen. There's also a specialty liquor store that sells fresh sake from its refrigerated display. I recommend the sake wrapped in newspaper or plastic in the fridge. The production date is clearly marked on the label. It was truly excellent, a fantastic experience. I think I stayed for about 25 days. Initially, I loved the single room because the morning sun streamed in every day. Since it was winter, it was cold to sleep without anything, so I brought an electric blanket and stayed warm. A free-voltage electric blanket is essential. Later, an alumnus from my high school joined me, and we used the 4th-floor tatami room. The residential area viewed from the tatami room window was so peaceful and relaxing. Watching snow fall in Kyoto from there was a wonderful experience. And most importantly, the owner! The owner greeted us with a smile every morning, and their smile is beautiful. They spoke a little Korean, so we communicated using Papago and hand gestures. Since I don't speak any Japanese, I used Papago frequently. There's also Manita, the guesthouse's mascot, a charming young lady from Nepal on a working holiday in Japan. She smiles a lot and studies Japanese diligently. During my stay at Winter Villa, I saw the beautiful owner and Manita multiple times every day. Our communication involved a few English words, a few Japanese phrases, and Papago did the rest. If you want to walk along Kyoto's Kamo River and experience the city's tranquility, I highly recommend this place. I spent the winter here, and I can imagine how nice it would be to have a beer on the rooftop of Winter Villa in early summer, looking at the sky and stars.

AAnonymous UserHaving stayed in Arashiyama already for 1 day at another nearby hotel, I hadn’t anticipated liking the area so much. I located Mulan Hotel and stayed in the dorm bed for 2 nights. Being the only guest there, the beds and common areas (such as bathrooms, kitchen etc) were clean. They had access to a washing machine and dryer which was appreciated after 2 weeks of travel. Presented with a discount coupon for the neighbourhood onsen, 2 minutes walk from the hotel is a must! They also have bikes for hire, which made exploring the local area and neighbourhood really enjoyable. Price is great for those on a budget. The bus stop to return to Kyoto Station is 80m from the front entrance. Be mindful its 15-20 minute walk to the major sites and main restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended and I look forward to my visit there again soon!

GGuest UserKyoto was the main stop on this trip, so I had high expectations for this hotel in Omiya. It's about a 10-minute walk from Kyoto's most prosperous Shijo shopping street, which isn't too close, but still very convenient. There are bus stops and subway stations nearby, so getting around is still very convenient. However, if you want to avoid walking, it's best to book a room in Shijo. There's free housekeeping once every three nights, but we didn't tell the front desk before 8 p.m. one night in advance, so we didn't use it. The toothbrush was very difficult to use, much worse than the hotel in Nagoya.

VVeldaThis time I chose an apartment-style hotel, which is about a 1-minute walk from Exit 3 of Marutamachi Station on the Karasuma Line and a 2-3-minute walk from the Kinkakuji/Kiyomizu-dera bus stop. It is very convenient to reach various attractions. There are FamilyMart, 7-11, McDonald's, and supermarkets nearby. The room is spacious 👍, with kitchen utensils, oven, microwave, washer and dryer, electronic scale...all available. There is a large table in the room, which is a place where our family of five can go home every day to have late night snacks without being crowded. The teenagers enjoyed their stay very much and will choose this place again next time they visit Kyoto👍.
