Find 3-Star Hotels in Kyoto

"Although it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below. Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks. Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly). Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion."

"My husband and I stayed 3 nights at Sakura Terrace The Atelier in Kyoto and overall had a pleasant experience. Finding the hotel took a bit of time at first since it’s located within a larger neighborhood and it’s about a 7–8 minute walk to the nearest train station. It’s manageable but something to keep in mind if you’re arriving with the luggage. The stay itself was comfortable with all the basic amenities provided. However, the room space is quite small for a couple, so it may feel a little tight if you have multiple suitcases. One of the highlights was definitely the public bath. It was really nice and relaxing. I enjoyed it so much that I went twice during my stay. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day of exploring Kyoto. Overall, it’s a good choice for a comfortable stay, especially if you don’t mind a compact room and a short walk to the station."

"The room isn't huge, but it's big enough to comfortably fit a 28-inch suitcase. The location is super convenient; you can walk to the shopping district and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Plus, there's staff at the front desk who speak Chinese. On weekdays, the price is a bit higher compared to hotels in Osaka and Kobe."

"This was a great guesthouse. The room was clean and well-equipped, although a knife was missing. I particularly appreciated the wet/dry separation in the bathroom. However, there was no drying rack, which was a minor disappointment given the Chinese custom of not leaving clothes outside overnight. Also, there were too few hangers; in the summer heat, changing clothes twice a day, they were simply inadequate. Its location near Tenkachaya Station (Sakaisuji Line and Nankai Line) is excellent, with a large supermarket just 50 meters away. This is perfect if you enjoy sushi, fresh seafood, wagyu beef, etc., and want to cook your own dinner; it's very economical and satisfying. While getting around is very convenient, the sole downside is its direct proximity to an elevated subway line. Trains whiz by every two minutes from 4:30 AM until midnight. Consequently, I would not recommend it for light sleepers or those with sleep disorders, as you might find yourself disturbed throughout the night."

"One of the best hotels I've ever stayed based on close distance with Kyoto station Hachijou exit (if you choose the wrong exit then it will take time). The only downside from the hotel is the room is small compare to other hotels in Japan so it is hard to open our luggages. Other than that, everything was perfect. The staff was helpful and caring. They provided umbrellas for free to rent on the rainy day and I love how they always put weather forecast on the small board in the reception desk in a cute way. There is also a Lawson next to the hotel which is really convenient for us to buy something. As a vegetarian (one pax can't eat garlic and onion) , the breakfast was just okay. There are quite variety to eat but if you can't eat garlic and onion, you can only eat salad but the vegetables are fresh and delicious. After all I would still choose this hotel for my next visit to Kyoto."

"• room: essential and fresh furniture. Bathroom little more spacious than average for this category. Bedsheets are very thin and there is no protection cover for pillows and blanket which have lots of stains. Curtains do not fully cover light from the window but my window was facing a wall so there was not lot of light in the morning • amenities: laundry room with microwave corner but unfortunately smells strongly of cigarette as the ventilation is probably shared with the smoking room. There is a smoking room right behind the entrance door which makes all the ground floor smell like cigarettes. It is a • location: 20 min walking distance from metro and same distance to go to the central shopping area • staff: essential in their support. If they see you having trouble entering the property with the code they wait very pong before helping. Be aware that it is a self checkin hotel • breakfast: I did not used • noise level: my room was quite silent, on weekend few people were noisy on the street but for a short while my background: I travel 320 days a year since 8 years staying in all range of accomodation from hostel to 5star. I am sensitive to dust smoke and noise and I just review objectively what I see with no judgement"

"I've been to Kyoto many times, and it feels like I always end up staying around Kawaramachi. This time, I decided to try somewhere different! 😁 The hotel is located in the city center at Karasuma Oike, just a few minutes' walk from the subway, which is super convenient. The room was quite spacious, and although it's an older hotel, it's generally well-maintained. The elevators were always quick, so we rarely had to wait. The breakfast selection was pretty good. We happened to check in during the hotel's 30th-anniversary celebration, and they even gave us a souvenir and a complimentary happy hour! The staff were all very warm and polite. It was truly a pleasant stay."

"The room was very clean, and the location was convenient. I loved the self-check-in and check-out options, which are great for introverts. Plus, there's a free cup of sake and coffee in the lobby every day! The only downside was that my room faced the street and was a bit noisy. Still, I'd choose this hotel again next time."
