"It is very convenient to stay overnight on foot. Although it is a youth hostel, it is very quiet. The facilities of the homestay are very complete, and the public area of the rest area is very comfortable. It would be better if lunch boxes were provided. If the weather is bad, I definitely don’t want to go out for meals."

"It was my first experience of Japanese hot springs and I enjoyed it a lot.
First of all, I'd like to thank a male staff who met me during check-in. He welcomed me warmly, explained all the details of my stay and helped to carry my bag to the room. Unfortunately, the female personnel wasn't that much friendly the next day when I asked for some help with my luggage.
The rooms have a splendid view of a forest and a river, old style Japanese but with some modern facilities.
The meal aren't a traditional Ryokan type but are still quite enjoyable with sushi and wagyu beef as a starter. In general, I can say it's a mix of traditional Japanese and moredn western style hotel in one.
If you're lucky and avoid the days when the hotel is crowded you'd be able to enjoy the river view from the onsed in quiet. Unfortunately, the water in the outdoor wasn't as clear as I expected. But the rest was just amazing."

"We arrived late at night. The guy at the front desk greeted us warmly. He used a translator to explain the situation and asked if we needed our luggage transported (he could help transport our luggage to the next destination). He also asked if we needed to soak in an outdoor hot spring. The next morning, I opened the curtains and saw the beautiful sea. It's far from the station and it's dark at night if you walk. I recommend taking a taxi, which costs 1,000 yen one way."

"Before arriving at the hotel, I found that the transportation in the Kumano Hongu area was very inconvenient. I sent an email to the hotel, and they were able to reply within half a day. They also gave transportation suggestions and told us that they could drive to Ukegawa Station to pick us up, which saved us at least 45 minutes. distance. When we arrived at the hotel, the English introduction was very comprehensive, and they could send a car to take us to the bus station the next day, because the nearest bus station was not suitable for our travel time. The hotel provides a detailed bus timetable and a map for hiking from Prince Faxinmen to the palace. The meals and hot springs are typical Japanese style, and I am very satisfied. If the child's stuffed toys are left at the hotel after leaving, the hotel will contact us and they will send them to the next hotel. Really good service, highly recommended. The hot spring has two private baths, the public bathroom is also large, and there is also an outdoor bath."

"A great place if you’re open to cooking some food yourself. Yes, the dinner options are basically non-existent, but that really doesn’t matter if you’re open minded and willing to do something yourself. My partner and I walked for 8 hours and were exhausted when we arrived, but we still decided to get some food from the shop across the road (very nearby!!) and cook. It ended up being a lovely way to end the day which also surprised us. We sat atop our container-home and looked to the mountains as we ate our food.
The room has everything you need other than knives and maybe more options for plates, but it’s doable. Everything is compact but that’s part of the charm, and it’s really quite incredible how they organise the entire room.
The only issues we encountered were the lack of knives (only one chef’s knife, no normal knives for spreading butter etc), and the plates, but no other issues.
The lack of staff to talk to face to face can be a bit of a shock to people, but it’s all about your own attitude to trying it out, as this isn’t a hotel where you can get anything you want just by asking. You can ask, but it’s all done via a couple of iPads. Just be prepared and keep an open mind. If you do that, this might be one of the most comfortable and personal stays you’ll have."

"Although the location is relatively remote, the boss service is good, the spring quality is super good, it is a hot spring hotel that can be visited again."
Winter Story at Shimogoten. A relaxing and rejuvenating trip at one of the Top Three Hot Springs with Beauty Benefits.
"It is located in the countryside of Tanabe but the transportation is relatively convenient. This hotel is a member of the Secret Hot Spring Guardian Association, and the water quality of the hot spring is very good. The waiters were all local elderly people, and my lovely mother-in-law came to talk to me with a translator during dinner. The food is not luxurious, but it is still quite traditional and authentic Japanese home-cooked food."
A 5-minute walk to Kiitanabe station. Conveniently located for both business and sightseeing
"The hotel is not far from the station, very convenient, the door face is a bit small... Although the pink neon light looks a bit strange, it is indeed a serious hotel hahahahaha. The front desk is a grandfather, I feel quite good to talk, the room is small but complete, the bathroom feels quite new and clean, in general, it is very quiet and comfortable, that is, the key (the physical key is not the room card) is handed over to the front desk during the day, and the key is not cleaned. I don't know if I am afraid of losing it? ? I heard that some hotels have such rules, but this is the first time I have lived in this kind of key. The magic experience has increased again~
Not much to eat nearby and close early, maybe because it is the countryside? If you arrive late, it is recommended to buy delicious food directly at the convenience store near the station."

Outstanding
GGuest UserMy husband and I stayed here after a very long and wet day of hiking on the Kumano Kodo. It was a perfect place to land, rest and recover. The room is small, but the bed was one of the most comfortable of our whole trip. Our bodies also very much appreciated the onsen tubs, which both of us had to ourselves (separate men and women’s). The meal was definitely one of the very vest that we had during our entire trip in Japan, and the hostess even did emergency laundry so that we would have some dry clothes for the next day. We are very grateful to both of them for such an exceptional stay.
SShanyuWe reached the hotel on foot from Hongu Taisha Shrine via Ohitsuchi, passing by Yumine Hot Spring Street. It takes about half an hour to walk from the hot spring street. I’m not sure how to get there by car. The hotel environment is very good. It’s a completely Japanese-style resort hotel. It’s quiet and far away. The crowd, the service is enthusiastic, and the hygiene is up to standard. (Note that there are no showers in the rooms, you have to go to the large bathroom.) The hot springs are very big and unique. The dinner is also good. I have a good rest. There is a shuttle bus to the palace when I leave. ( You may also be able to make an appointment) Watase Onsen is worth experiencing!
SShiTonyIt was 3rd day when my wife and I are hiking KUMANO KODO. After 6 and half hour hiking and 20 minutes bus, we arrived at Watarase Onsen Hotel Sasayuri around 5pm. At checking counter, we found that I booked wrong day - one day late….. However service person rearranged room and dinner for us within less than half hour. Their traditional Japanese service and food are amazing and forgettable. I will be for sure coming back when I revisit this area.
BBoscoayThe second time I lived, the last time was 8 years ago, the facilities were still clean and not significantly old. There is still the hospitality of traditional Japanese-style hotels. The hot springs are still good, and it is a relatively new hotel near the Dragon God.
