"Overall, the hotel’s cleanliness was excellent; however, the service was disappointing—starting at the reception, where staff made promises they failed to keep and evaded their responsibilities. I had handed over clothes for dry cleaning, but they were returned having undergone standard washing instead. Furthermore, the clothes were not clean, and an expensive shirt was ruined. The staff refused to take responsibility, claiming I had not specified dry cleaning—which was untrue—though I was eventually paid £100 in compensation. That was my experience during my stay."

"Rum Doodle, well it was our first time at The Lakes and it certainly won't be our last! The location was just right with being part way between Windermere town and Bowness and was walkable to both. There were plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in walking distance as well as lake Windermere itself. We found Rum Doodle with ease and was greeted at the door with a smile and friendly man (the owner but didn't catch his name). We were bought a fresh glass of apple and orange juice to our room which was refreshing after a long drive to Windermere. Our room was comfy, not too big or too small, a wardrobe, seating in the bay window, hairdryer, hot drink making facilities, wine glasses with cork screw and bottle opener. Very modern, clean and well presented bathroom with soft and fluffy towels, and a really nice shower. The bed was very comfortable and welcomed after a busy day exploring the surrounding area. Breakfast was really good with cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt, toast, and then a choice of breakfast which were great too. We had a pleasant and informative chat at breakfast with the lady that works there who gave us the heads up on some driving routes to try and avoid which was really useful. After a day out exploring we went back to Rum Doodle to a cleaned room and freshly made bed with the tea and coffee replenished, so we were able to just drop and the bed with a nice cuppa and biscuit. Then out for a walk, some lovely food and a couple of drinks. We couldn't recommend The Lakes and Rum Doodle enough! Well worth every penny"

"The location is superb, with the pier just down the hill through the garden. It's quick to get to Ambleside, Orrest Head, and go horseback riding. The staff were very polite. My family room even had air conditioning, which saved me during the heatwave. However, the room didn't have a phone (my friend's room did), so I couldn't contact the front desk."

"The hotel is conveniently located 6-7 minutes from the station and lake area, making it easy to access boats and buses. The hotel's environment is pleasant, but honestly, the rooms are quite average. The carpet was a bit dirty, and there were multiple stains on the sofa. The bathroom only had a small bottle of shampoo, no shower gel, but there was a small bar of soap. However, the breakfast included with the room was surprisingly good. The à la carte main courses were very English and definitely worth praising. Just for the breakfast alone, I would recommend this hotel."

"The walk from the bus to the hotel is quite steep, so it's not recommended for solo travelers (especially with luggage). There's no elevator, and the staff needed help carrying luggage. Since I was traveling alone, I booked a single room. Looking up the website, I remember there were three single rooms available, and the view from the one I was assigned wasn't particularly good. However, the interior was relatively new and clean, and I was particularly pleased with the spacious shower in the bathroom. The toiletries were very nice, and they also provided small cookies, snacks, and a bottle of mineral water upon check-in. There are some great deals on the hotel website for spring and summer, so check before booking. The highly recommended breakfast is also available on a la carte basis. I noticed a window seat available, but the staff refused twice. The third time, they reluctantly offered to move me to a window seat, saying ”Oh my God!” so I deducted a point for their service. However, the view was beautiful. Overall, I recommend this for solo backpackers or for booking a signature room for two."

"This hotel is located on a small hill in the Lake Windermere area. The courtyard is charming, the rooms are large, and the facilities are excellent. The service is also very good, and the breakfast is delicious. I really liked this hotel; it's worth staying at, and the price is reasonable for a hotel."

"Booked the love snug for my wife's 30th and honestly couldnt of been better so helpful an welcomed with a smile by who i think was the owner she was amazing. Nothing was to much trouble as a whole probably one of the best weekends away weve been on and mostly because of this hotel would recommend and will definitely be back again 100% big thank you for making our weekend to windamere so special. "A villa with several floors. We stayed in the attic. Fortunately, the receptionist helped us to carry our luggage up and down. Several people sat around a table for breakfast and the food was served according to the portion."

"Traditional friendly guest house. Nice , clean bedroom with en suite shower room. 5 mins walk to Windermere centre, easy access to Bowness. Owners were friendly and welcoming with good knowledge of local attractions. We would stay again if in the area."

"Upon arrival there was nobody at the front desk so I waited. The woman I was somewhat greated by was far from pleasant and didn’t seem like she wanted to be there at all. Nothing was explained and no information leaflet for me to read through in my own time. When given my room key I started walking through the lobby but couldn’t see any signs for my room number. Went back to the desk to ask where to go for my room and was told ‘just follow it round’. Very unhelpful and unwelcoming, not sure this lady should be at the face of the hotel. Plus side, room was beautiful and well kept/clean. I was also lake side so got to watch the sunrise with my morning cuppa. Very refreshing views."
