"Amazing lodge right at the heart of the Amakhala game reserve. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you are made to feel very welcome and special in this beautiful location. The team here are excellent - friendly, warm, and delivering the highest levels of service. Special mention to Oli and Elvis. BBQ night and amazing singing and dancing from the team were a particular highlight. Game drives were brilliant - Tim was an excellent ranger and we saw everything we could hope to see. Highly recommend."

"Hitgehuim exceeded our expectation. We booked one of their new "self catering " units. It was well equipped, comfortable, and beautifully furnished and decorated. It had its own fully private, splash pool. The staff were helpfull. Nothing was too much trouble. We also used their restaurant at times. The meals were scrumptious. As birders the place was ideal. It was also in close proximity to Addo Elephant park."

"Solo female traveler. Stayed 3 nights in a suite. Woodall is a special place, with a wonderful staff, and I enjoyed every minute of my time there. What's to love: - Eduarn, the friendly and super-capable GM, is on top of everything. Prior to my trip, he was quick to amend my booking, answer my questions, provide information before I even asked (which route to take, where to stop along the way, etc.) During the stay, he was always available and on top of everything - Freddie, the pianist/restaurant manager (?)/go-to guy, is very warm, accommodating person. He's looking out for everyone - The deck, the deck, the deck! Comfortable sitting areas with views of the very active swamp. (Ornithophiles will be in heaven here) - The lodge is very accessible: straightforward journey from Port Elizabeth, good roads. Only 90 minutes from PLZ - My suite was gigantic, and it included outdoor showers (as well as indoor), tall ceilings, a private patio surrounded by nature, a dipping pool (got a kick out of the unironic "No Lifeguard on Premises/No Diving" sign), a refrigerator, USB outlets, safe, robes, slippers, etc. Lots of natural light and fresh air. Very quiet; dark at night; and AC worked fine - Complimentary bottle of wine; chocolates every night; welcome beverage; handwritten, personalized notes. Pastries (baked onsite) available in the lobby all day - Strong WiFi in common areas and rooms - They wash the guests' cars - Extremely comfortable beds. Strong, hot showers - Charlotte Rhys bath products - Spa onsite - Adjacent to Addo Elephant Park. So easy to take a half-day safari. Breakfast is provided. Lots of elephants, viewed up close - Both Eduarn offered a "to-go" breakfast when I told them I had to depart at 5:15 a.m. - Friendly, attentive restaurant staff - On-the-ball housekeeping What could be improved: - Uncomfortable dining room chairs"

"Where to begin. The shower did not drain, despite the bath and basins draining. The bathroom blinds fell off the wall when trying to close them. The safe is not mounted to anything. We had to send both steaks back due to being grossly under cooked. No barrister on site, only an all in one coffee machine, I am not sure how they can call themselves 5 Star. The game drive vehicle broke down and the game rangers do not have proper torches with them. We were transferring vehicles in the bush with the wild animals using our cell phones for light. Unfortunately it had rained extraordinarily before our trip so understandably we could not access a significant portion of the farm, but we had no issue with this. Pumba took 10 days to respond and only said that they hope to see us again. No accountability on their part. They blamed the water from the rains as the reason for us experiencing all the issues. I am not sure how rain causes the blinds to fall down or the shower not to drain etc. This was not the 5 Star experience we were had hoped for."

"Camp Figtree is about 11kms from the Main Gate at Addo Elephant Park. To get to it you have to be ready to travel on dirt roads, up the Zuurberg Pass. But it is SO worthwhile. When you get there you will not be disappointed. The setting must be among the best settings of any rural wilderness hotel in the world. The architecture is traditional colonials, with corrugated iron, natural stone and woodwork pathways to take you to your chalet. Each chalet is en suite, very spacious and comfortable, tastefully furnished and highly recommended. The staff are well-trained in hospitality, and will try to accommodate every whim. We had a wonderful 2-night stay there. The food was top-notch, a great wine list, warming fires, hot-water-bottles, everything for every comfort. Thank you Camp Figtree. We will have no hesitation in recommending you, and will most definitely return"

"We stayed in Camdeboo Manor for 2 nights during which time we were the only guests in the whole estate, this gave me the opportunity to look at the other options. Courtyard Manor, Hillside, Peppertree and the Pods....the pods were very luxurious given their location but I think we made the right choice. The room and manor as a whole was gorgeous, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The gardens were just a please to relax in. The staff were all so freindly and the food was very good. If you're going to Camdeboo for Game Drives you could be dissapointed as there is a lack of sightings but they are there. What made the drive special for us was the scenery which was beautiful ....and how elephants can climb up the steep hillsides I will never know."

"We spent one night here on our way back from Plettenberg Bay to Port Elizabeth. I was sad to only have one night. The guesthouse is beautifully decorated and the location was excellent - right next to the canal and across the road from the little precinct where you can find a deli and a restaurant. Unfortunately our room didn’t have direct canal views as we booked the last room but those with balconies overlooking the canal looked especially nice. That said our room still had a nice patio overlooking the small swimming pool. We spent the afternoon just chilling out and took the kayak out for a paddle on the canal. Breakfast was freshly prepared to order and we loved having it out on the deck watching the various bird visitors. If we’re out that way again (and I’d like to be!) I would definitely return."
