📍 Inkerman Terrace, Whitehaven

"We stayed over for 1 night, ready for cycling the Coast to Coast over the weekend. From the moment we arrived through to the moment we left, the staff were great, very hospitable and nothing was too much trouble for them. We ate in the bar and the food was lovely, great Cumberland Sausage and Mustard Mash for me. The breakfast was ok, but served rather cool for me, as though it had been sitting around for a bit. The decor is tired and the hotel could do with a lick of paint, etc, but it was fine for what we needed. Secure bike storage meant peace of mind for our bikes."

Moresby Hall Country House Hotel

Moresby Hall Country House Hotel ★★★

📍 Moresby Hall, Whitehaven

"I arrived on a stormy night in the lake district - on entering the hotel I was met with a warm glow from the log fire and a very warm welcome from the receptionist. As the hotel dining room was about to close, a room was sorted and the kitchen kept open for an evening meal - a delicious melt in the mouth steak was a pleasure after a 6 hour drive from the south of england, washed down with a welcome glass of Shiraz. The bed was very comfortable, the room had a large bath and separate shower cubicle and copious hot water. The decor and fittings were in sympathy with the age and history of the hotel, a pleasant change from the blandness of more modern mass market hotels. The staff were very friendly and it was a pleasure to be assisted without having to use automated impersonal systems. I will not hesitate to stay at the hotel again when I am next in the area."

📍 8-11 Church St, Whitehaven

"Had a great meal here and would definitely come back! The food was really tasty, fresh, and the portion sizes were generous. the bar and restaurant were expecially clean and well managed As we were a larger party, we were asked to preorder our meals prior to arrival which meant everything came out promptly- was all very delicious All of the staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and the service was excellent from start to finish. . A very professional feeling to the establishment with staff looking familiar and comfortable with their role. Even though they were visibly busy, they still took the time to make our celebration feel special- small touches, like having a balloon waiting on the table for us, really made our evening and showed how much they care about their customers. Cannot fault the restaurant, food or staff"

The Mansion

The Mansion ★★★

📍 Woodhouse Rd, Whitehaven

"What an excellent find this delightful b&b is.  Located in Whitehaven, this b&b is a great spot to tour from.  Visitors are a mix of contractors and tourists & the b&b seems to cater exceedingly well for either. We were greeted warmly by Nav on arrival. Nav showed us to our room on the ground floor,  next to the pool area. The rooms are bright and freshly decorated, in neutral but warm colours -  carpets and mattresses are new. They are well laid out,  plenty of space,  with a table if you need to work,  ensuite, wardrobe, and table with kettle etc.  Sachets of tea and coffee are plentiful, and extra available nearby. Nav showed us around the b&b, up to the bar (self service with honesty box), well stocked with good selections, the breakfast room, then onto the gardens.  Nav has done a wonderful job with the gardens, similar to the rooms, the views are spectacular, and the area so very peaceful.  Nav provided lots of helpful recommendations for places to visit nearby and places to eat. After a blissful night's sleep (a very quiet location) we ventured to breakfast, again to a warm hello from Nav who cooked us an excellent full English (other options available.  In addition, there are a varied selection of cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries,  juice,  toast and preserves. We were definitely not left hungry or thirsty,  being supplied with a carafe of coffee, & the kippers on our last day were scrummy. Although we didn't have time to use the pool, we did sneak a look,  it was very clean, and the room bright and airy - maybe next time. There definitely will be a next time,  not only to see how the garden is coming along, but because this is a lovely b&b.  Nav and Ian have put a great deal into making the b&b a home away from home,  and are fantastic hosts,  lighting up the room with their warmth and friendliness.  A pleasure to visit."

Premier Inn Whitehaven ★★★
"Stayed for one night. Room basic and bathroom floor could have been cleaner. Questionable marks on the toilet seat and lid. Room had all I needed for a night. Bed was comfortable and reception staff were friendly. Had to turn the room temp down to stop the heater coming on during the night as it made really loud noises. Very poor soundproofing from the room above - sounded like someone was running from one end of the room to the other at one point! Breakfast next door was poor. Not refilled quickly and the last bits left under the lamps were stone cold. Eventually got a hot hash brown but absolutely nothing else was remotely warm, let alone hot. Glad I didn’t go for a meal during the evening. The signs about limited staff meaning you had to book (even a mid-week table for one!) put me off. At about £140 for a night, it wasn’t great value for a basic product."

"I stayed a couple of nights before doing the coast to coast cycle route, was meant to stay one night but ended up having to stay an additional night due to poor weather. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly - made me feel very welcome as a solo traveller. Dinner was delicious - steak pie on the first night and sausage and mash the second night - and the cooked breakfast was also very good. It’s an older building so there’s a bit of wear and tear as you’d expect (some redecoration work was being carried out while I was there) but still very nice and comfortable. Lots of other cyclists there doing the C2C, they’re very accommodating and happy to securely store bikes."

"Absolutely beautiful food, staff were amazing and so attentive, we weren't rushed at any point - would highly recommend. The chicken satay was outstanding as was all the food really. There was a birthday balloon on our table for my husband. Such a lovely touch. Keep up the good work "

"This was our third stay at the Mansion and as always, it was thoroughly enjoyable. Friendly atmosphere, clean, and beautiful breakfasts. Added luxury is the indoor swimming pool. My only criticism is that the electric shower in the room we stayed this time was not powerful enough for my liking."
