Anonymous UserI rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had in Japan.
I booked a Run of House (ROH) room for my family. The booking description stated that room sizes range from 28 to 38 square meters. Based on that description, I reasonably expected that room assignments would be allocated fairly within that range.
Upon check-in, I initially asked whether it would be possible to have a room facing Huis Ten Bosch. I fully understood when I was told that a park-facing room would require an additional charge, as such rooms are often sold at a premium.
However, after entering the room, I realized that I had been assigned what appeared to be the smallest and least desirable room available.
At that point, I was no longer asking for a park view. I simply asked whether it would be possible to have a slightly larger room, especially since the ROH description clearly stated that room sizes range from 28 to 38 square meters.
What made the experience particularly frustrating was that I had already read reviews from other guests who booked the same ROH category and received significantly better rooms. One guest mentioned being assigned a park-view room after making a request, while another guest appeared to have received one of the hotel’s best room categories despite booking ROH.
When I politely asked why other guests with the same booking category seemed to receive much better room assignments while I was given the smallest room available, the front desk was unable to provide a clear explanation.
Instead, I was repeatedly told that any room change would require an upgrade fee. At one point, I was even told to contact the booking platform and ask the platform to pay for the room change.
This response made very little sense. I was not asking for a free upgrade. I was simply asking for transparency and consistency regarding how ROH rooms are allocated.
After a lengthy discussion, the hotel eventually moved us to a slightly larger room. However, the replacement room was located on the lowest floor, at the far end of the corridor, with a partially obstructed theme park view. While I appreciated the effort, it reinforced the impression that alternative rooms were available, yet no clear explanation was ever provided regarding the original room assignment.
My disappointment is not that I did not receive the best room. I fully understand that ROH bookings do not guarantee upgrades. My concern is that the hotel advertises a room size range of 28–38 square meters, creating the expectation that room assignments may reasonably vary within that range.
If ROH guests are always assigned the smallest and least desirable room available, even when larger rooms remain vacant, then the hotel should simply advertise the room as 28 square meters. That would allow guests to make an informed decision before booking.
For families travelling with children, room size matters. Had the listing clearly indicated that ROH guests would receive a 28-square-meter room, I would likely have selected a different room category from the beginning.
The hotel itself is in a convenient location and the facilities are generally good. However, the handling of this situation left a very negative impression. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend booking a specific room category rather than ROH, so that expectations are clear from the outset.

Anonymous UserConsidering the park and hotel have been open for 30 years, I found the facilities and cleanliness to be very well-maintained. The park layout is excellent, offering a peaceful atmosphere with spacious, beautiful European-style streets that feel authentic rather than artificial. There are small activities throughout the day, which adds to the experience.
Dining and Park Amenities
While restaurant options within the park are somewhat limited, the prices are quite reasonable. Since we visited in June, the park wasn’t too crowded, so we didn't have to wait in lines for any attractions. The park is well-equipped with convenient amenities, including self-service laundry, a Lawson convenience store, a drugstore, car rental services, and even a pet hotel.
Pro-Tip: Download the App
I highly recommend downloading the official Huis Ten Bosch app. It provides helpful walking navigation around the park and a convenient schedule to keep track of various activities and events.
Hotel Amsterdam Experience
We stayed at Hotel Amsterdam, and I highly recommend staying at one of the park’s official hotels. The rooms are spacious, and a unique touch is the built-in water purifier, so there is no need to buy bottled water or head to the hotel lobby to refill. Additionally, you do not need to pay for a second-day park ticket, as the hotel provides them at check-in. Note that parking is 2,500 JPY per day, but staying at the park hotel allows you to offset this cost.
Tips for Families and Extras
Height Requirements: Be aware that many attractions require children to be at least 90cm or 100cm tall. This isn't clearly stated on the official website, though there is an indoor facility suitable for infants.
Transportation: There is a shuttle bus, but it runs every 20–30 minutes.
Onsen: There is a public bath (800 JPY/person) or a private family bath (2,700 JPY/hour, requires reservation).
Activities: Some additional facilities, like the tricycle rentals, require an extra fee (3,000 JPY/hour).
Overall, this was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend it for those looking for a relaxing and well-planned getaway!

Enrique Moya17min walk from Hakata JR train station. Facing the very tranquil Naka river. Entry to building and room is by following email instructions and QR code and is easy.
Room clean, everything in its place. Beds & pillows comfortable and clean. Everything works- including ironing board with iron, hairdryer, all kitchen amenities and tv (local channels).
We awoke to blue skies and the peacefulness overlooking river is beautiful to experience. Absolute silence as there are no roads nor crowds.
A very pleasant stay.
PS: only one issue - during the night, there was a periodic doorbell ‘ding-dong’ which unfortunately woke me up 3 times. It wasn’t our room, I even went out door but could not identify origin. I am a light sleeper, but the rest of the family slept thru it.

BoganThis hotel boasts a wonderful location in a picturesque part of the city, right next to Glover Garden. It's the only hotel here, and it's truly magnificent. Housed in a meticulously restored historic building, it features modern amenities and offers stunning bay views. Everything you need for a comfortable stay and pleasant strolls around the area is here. The rooms are spacious with luxurious interiors and comfortable beds. Every detail has been thought of, from the coffee machine and bathrobes to all the toiletries. Getting here might be a bit of a trek, as the hotel is on a hill, about a 10-15 minute uphill walk from public transport stops. However, this is more than compensated for by its incredibly quiet location, free from bustling traffic and crowds. I'd like to give a special shout-out to one of the hotel staff, Peiyun Lin! She is an exceptional professional with excellent English (she's from Taiwan), gracious, and competent – an ideal employee. She responded instantly to our problem when we found a large cockroach in the bathroom! She arrived quickly with special products to treat the area. If only there were more employees like her! Thank you!

The location is fantastic, you can see the hotel right when you exit Nagasaki Station. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are very enthusiastic. The hotel's security control design is great; your room card only grants access to your own floor. There's a shopping mall right next door. The night view from the hotel is also amazing.

Guest UserQuite nice stay. Location 10 minutes from bus terminal, and train station. Trams are stopping nearby. There some eat options on the second floor as well as restaurants on the 7th-8th. Comfortable beds, big room, nice view to the stadium and mountain. The only thing at the arrival the breakfast price was 2800 yen, later 4000. But may be I just misunderstood something. I do recommend this hotel.

The Olive Bay Hotel is very good and can be said to be perfect. Convenient for self-driving, I rely on public transportation, the hotel is on the big island next to Sasebo, and the boat is within 10 minutes of Sasebo Station. I missed it at 1:30 in the afternoon and waited until 4:25. The boat was opened 15 minutes before the boat opened. There was a difference between holidays. Apple navigation is accurate, half an hour to the big island, there is no information office at the pier, no staff, no rental, fortunately someone called a taxi, I also let him send, he sent the last guest to pick me up, the pier to the hotel 7 minutes, Apple navigation said that walking for 15 minutes is definitely not possible, At least forty minutes. It was so beautiful to arrive at the hotel, regretting the three hours I wasted at Sasebo Pier. The room is also super good and can't pick any shortcomings. Carefully observe the hotel details are perfect, extremely clean and bright, and the maintenance is very good. The two meals with two meals are delicious and formal. The dinner red wine beef and the nature of the performance are excellent. The beef quality is excellent. The freshly cooked siphon coffee for breakfast is really delicious. The staff were all warm and serious. After checking out, they sent me to the pier. The hotel I wanted to stay in was much better than Beppu Intercontinental.

The hotel is located right behind Huis Ten Bosch, and you can take a boat to Hotel Europe after 3 PM. Upon arriving at the hotel, the environment felt like a palace – very luxurious. In the evening, you can take a shuttle bus to the large public bath, which has indoor and outdoor hot springs and a sauna. Breakfast offers melon 👍 and red/white wine 👍.
