We decided to stop in Suwa to break up a long drive back to Tokyo. Shinyu looked very good and the price was reasonable. The hotel is renovated and gives a nice modern spa hotel atmosphere. The greeting at the hotel is very nice and the lobby area is beautiful. We felt very welcomed when we arrived. Our room was facing the lake. It was Japanese style with tatami and futons. Nice room, nice view. The public bath was nice. Not huge but felt very good. They have an indoor bath, small outdoor bath, a sauna and a cold bath. Dinner was great, as was breakfast. They were both courses and delicious. Service? Well, this is what makes all the difference. When we book hotels we need to detail my daughter's food allergies which are serious. For this trip we had booked many hotels in a row and for some reason when we booked Shinyu and checked-in we just forgot. It was our fault and when we sat for dinner we saw her prepared meal that she obviously could not eat. The staff at Shinyu didn't miss a beat. The didn't make a big deal about it. No stress. The quickly adjusted and made a wonderful dinner for my daughter and also prepared for her breakfast in similar fashion. Wonderful. Such great service. Maybe the building isn't perfect. But the service was perfect. Shinyu was our last stop on our trip and we left with a smile. Shinyu gets an ”Excellent” from my family.

It is about 3 minutes away from Suwa Inter on the central road. The parking lot is large and probably about 50 is ok. There are also two rapid charging machines. It heals the tired body by sightseeing around Suwa Taisha shrine. Breakfast can be taken on the opposite Suwa interchange across the road. Also, it is rare in Route Inn at Suwa interchange, and it seems that I am doing a tavern at night at the breakfast venue (I didn't use it), and I can get a discount ticket at the front desk. Even if it is not, there are many restaurants around, so there is no problem. Therefore, although it is quite substantial, there are only one elevator though the number of rooms is large, and the evaluation was 4 because it is inconvenient.

I'm not a smoker so I requested a non-smoking room, but there were none available so I ended up in a smoking room. As expected, the smell permeated the room. It was disappointing that there wasn't a single bottle of water in the fridge and the air purifier was rattling noisily, probably because it was broken. Everyone at the front desk was cheerful and polite! Thank you very much.

We intended to check out the Lake Suwa area of Nagano to view the autumn leaves, which were peaking during the time of our visit, and we couldn't think of a better option than to return to the marvelous Sui Suwako ryokan. We were pleased to find that the establishment was as delightful as we remembered it. We stayed here just a year and a half ago, so I won't go into detail regarding every aspect of our stay. Just a few things that bear repeating, however. At just 8 rooms, this ryokan offers an incredibly bespoke experience for each group of guests. Also, each of the rooms has its own in-room free-flowing Onsen (hot springs) bath. And should you want to enjoy the open-air Onsen on the roof (with an awesome view of Lake Suwa, especially at sunset), you can take a dip with members of other genders because swimsuits are not only permitted, but are available to borrow from the ryokan. Service level is very high here. As was the case last time, we were assigned a butler that tended to our room as well as our meals (which are served in a private ko****su room for each and every group of guests.) Our wonderful butler during our previous stay was on leave of absence, but we were delighted to have gotten to know the wonderful Ms. Minri Ko, who was as competent, attentive and knowledgeable as she was warm and charming. The dining experience was sublime. Not every offering was a ”best ever” serving, but that's not what we were after (nor should you seek it here.) While everything really is delicious, what's more impressive is their ability to serve local dishes with local ingredients, which really adds to the overall sense of place. Soba (buckwheat noodles), Basashi (raw horsemeat), Wakasagi (Japanese Smelt from Lake Suwa) Tempura were among the highlights. Breakfast was equally imaginative and well executed - many ryokans really mail in the breakfast - they're all good (how can Japanese breakfasts not be?), but can be the same 'ol thing. At Sui Suwako, they really go the extra mile in bringing out the flavors of the local, seasonal produce and fish from the area. Yet again, we left Sui Suwako with a deeper understanding and appreciation of this part of Japan. And that's part of why we travel to far-flung places, right?

I visited with two motorcycles. I was a little lost because there are many one-way streets around the road, but the parking lot is covered on the first floor of the hotel, so you can prepare without any problems even on bad weather. The simple and clean room is spacious and refreshing. If you look closely, you will see Japanese crafts on the bed head and in small places, but the subtle light-colored wood tone is soothing. The room is equipped with an air duct and a humidifier. The linens also have no unpleasant odor. The room was well-cleaned, so I was able to spend a very comfortable time. As expected from a ”long-established Japanese inn” The satisfaction level of the bath here was higher than the suite room at my favorite members-only club inn. There were several types of shampoo, so you could choose your favorite scent. This is also nice for women. I felt the hospitality was thoughtful. ”I want to stay in this bath all day.” If I had to say something, the bed was quite hard, so I had trouble falling asleep. The sofa was also hard. Dinner was served in a private room, and breakfast was served in a large convention hall. The hospitality was attentive and the staff, including veteran older women and young men, were all very friendly. Overall, we really liked it, so my husband and I decided that this was an inn we would definitely like to visit again.
