"We loved our stay at the Makanda Inn! We stayed in the Indigo cabin for a few days in late August while we were hiking in the Shawnee National Forest. The cabins are ideal for couples. Indigo is connected to another cabin, but you still have plenty of privacy even when both are occupied. They are heated/air conditioned, which was important for us because it was in the high 90s the whole week we stayed there. (We did not use the balcony and fire pit much for that reason, but they would definitely be a plus in the fall.) The stairway from the bedroom to the kitchen/sitting area below is narrow and twisty, so if you have any mobility issues I recommend staying in one of the suites in the main building instead. The breakfasts are great, and the staff are wonderful."

"The door didn’t close. I was moved to a different room. That room has a toilet that was broken. 3 days later the next room was fine. Sketchy area. Complimentary breakfast was cold cereal."

"The check in was horrible. Somehow Trip.com didn't make the payment so they wanted me to pay again! I contacted Trip.com, Joyce was helpful but she tried calling the hotel and they didn't answer. Eventually the person who wasn't even there at the front desk contacted Trip.com and the payment went through. This whole process took 45 minutes. That kiosk systems isn't good, it is hard to understand the person and it takes forever. Once I was assigned the room, the key didn't work. Oh yeah, they told me there was no WiFi or TV. The bed was good and the air condtioning was very good. The shower was one of those low flow ones. The room was okay. I would have been reasonable happy had the check in gone smoothly and there was WiFi."
