Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa

Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa ★★★★

📍 Bassenthwaite Lake, Keswick

"This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person."

Keswick Park Hotel
8.1 (117 reviews)

Keswick Park Hotel ★★★

📍 33 Station Rd, Keswick

"Hotel Highlights: 1. Excellent breakfast: Traditional English breakfast with blood sausage, stir-fried mushrooms, and fried bacon. The service was excellent and very friendly. Just find your table according to your room number. 2. Located in the town center, very close to restaurants and the shopping street. The lake is about a 15-minute walk away. 3. There are six free parking spaces, but aside from the one on the street, finding a spot is a challenge due to limited availability. 4. Check-in is hassle-free; just give your name and get your key. Disadvantages: It gets very cold at night in winter; the old-fashioned windows let in drafts, and the heating is weak. Getting wet in the rain feels like being a middle-aged man… Also, the cleanliness of the bedding is questionable…"

"I have written just over 100 reviews on this site, and in that time have very very rarely logged a 1* , however this experience was awful. Please read if you are considering booking here. I booked to stay through a popular website (not this one). Then noticed the payment appearing twice on my bank account. Rang and politely asked about this. What followed was scarcely believable. "You're talking b****s" was said to me within the first 30 seconds. He continued to rant and swear at me, I continued to talk in a normal conversational tone throughout. "You've got two options" he continued after a bit "do nothing or cancel" I asked him why he was speaking to me like this (this prompted a suggestion from him that I should search f**ng Google to sort out my query) In response to his option of cancelling I said that a couple of minutes earlier I had absolutely no intention of cancelling, but would now like to given how he was speaking. "Can I do that?" I asked. "Do whatever the f* you like" was the reply and he hung up. Following that call it turned out we couldn't cancel without the guesthouse approving it, which of course they didn't (they didn't even respond to my communication after that). We lost a significant amount of money by then choosing not to stay, but it was an easy decision to make. There was no way we were going there after that. I really would recommend not staying here. But if you are considering it then at very least do your research. I don't write a bad review lightly, but this experience was notably awful and completely unprofessional."

"Conveniently located close to the centre whilst being on a quiet street to ensure a good night's sleep in the very comfortable bed. Fabulous place to stay in Keswick. Very clean and well appointed rooms. Top breakfast that kept us going on a full days walk. We'll be back next time we need to recharge our batteries! "

Borrowdale Gates Hotel

Borrowdale Gates Hotel ★★★★

📍 The Borrowdale Gates, Grange, Keswick

"We have been coming as a family for many years and it holds a special place in our hearts. This visit was no exception, the staff were wonderful - remembering all the children’s names, attentive and friendly. The food, was as always, a highlight, we always save our dog Monty a sausage from breakfast! The view over the garden from our room (High Spy) is beautiful."

"Lovely guesthouse in a great location, just a few minutes walk into town. We were warmly greeted by Matt who helped us with our bags and gave us all the information we needed. Room was comfortable and spotlessly clean and breakfast was fantastic. We were made to feel very welcome and comfortable and our dog Luna loved it too. Thank you again for a lovely stay, we would definitely return when we visit Keswick again."

The Mary Mount Hotel ★★★
"A very bad experience. The bathroom wasn't connected to the room, and there was no refrigerator, drinking water, or slippers. Both the room and bathroom were extremely cold, and the shower was incredibly small. The price didn't match the room rate at all, and the breakfast wasn't good. Fortunately, I only booked one night, so I had to make do with it!"

Keswick Park Hotel ★★★
"Grat location near town centre and we managed to get parked in the car park. Keswick was a lovely town. Lovely staff during our stay. We were made to feel so welcome. The food at breakfast was really high quality and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was no 6 which had an incredible view. Only downside of that was climbing the stairs😂 would recommend this hotel"

"Excellently located with a 10 mins walk to the town centre where there are great bars, restaurants, take away and shops including shops for mountain walking. Eldon was great on arrival and explained everything and was there to assist us with any questions. Breakfast was great and rooms were cleans and well laid out. Highly recommended and a brilliant host. 😃👍 Phil Luke & Cal The mountaineers"

Glendale Guest House ★★★
"It was quite a nice stay at Glendale GH. We stayed for two nights. The GH is couple of minutes away from the High Street by walk. A lot of restaurants there. Rooms were well appointed, good shower, tea-coffee making facilities. Host Barry was friendly. As we were vegetarians (no egg), he went to market to get some egg-less nougat for breakfast. The breakfast was served with personal care and attention by Barry and his wife. There were cereals, fruits, bread toast, baked beans, baked potatoes and tomatoes etc. available. For us they got hot milk to mix with tea and cereals. My wife really enjoyed the breakfast there for two days and it was filling and energetic for the activities of the first half of the day! Only thing we didn’t like was the bed. Though double, it was comparatively small. In short the hospitality was excellent and the stay comfortable."

Borrowdale Gates Hotel ★★★★
"Plucked out of the air by TripAdvisor for a last-minute break near Keswick ….Borrowdale Gates. We loved it ….We live not too far away and often visit Keswick and the popular spots in the Lake District, but this area of Borrowdale was something special. Driving down the east of Derwentwater, through the little village of Grange, arriving at the Gates Hotel. Simple check-in with Shynese and shown to our lovely room 10. A short ride down to Keswick on the western road …fantastic views of the lake; then back to the Gates, rest and down for dinner. Fillet of beef and corn-fed chicken ….beautifully presented and tasty, with a delicious dessert to follow. A good night’s sleep, then down for a hearty Cumbrian breakfast. Off to Cockermouth (loved the independent shops and the history ….and the Moon and Sixpence coffee shop); then onto Buttermere and a short walk along the lakeside ….such stunning scenery - we must go back and walk the circular tour of the lake. Back to the Gates and refreshing drinks on the lawn; chose to eat in Keswick, but so crowded. Our last night’s sleep, then our last Cumbrian breakfast before saying goodbye ….but we’ll be back. Many Thanks to James and all the staff …see you soon."

Premier Inn Keswick ★★★
"Arrived at the hotel at around 1930 in the evening of 14th July. On arrival, there was nobody at the desk. I used the automated check in and tagged my room key. A good job I noticed the room number as the print out did not work. As I was on the evening meal plan, I tried to find out it works but then noticed a sign saying the kitchen was closed. I pressed the buzzer to get someone to talk to. When the employee attended he asked for my room number, tapped away at the screen, then telling me that I had been refunded. I then said I’m not happy and what you going to do about it. The employee then sarcastically said “do you want me to go down town and get you something” to which I replied yes then. To which my answer back from the employee was “that’s clearly not going to happen” How Premier Inn employee such rude staff is beyond me. In another situation, I popped to the bar later on, the bar man was a really nice guy."

"We booked two nights in pet friendly room. Greeted by very friendly host matt, he was very informative with local information. Room was lovely. Well equipped. Both clearly dog lovers, and gave our pet the same attention. Breakfast was wide range of choice. Cereals, toast, juices, I didn't opt for hot breakfast, but my husband did. Was presented beautifully, and prepared by paul. He was happy with it. Room was serviced. Clean towels which smelt divine by the way as did the bed sheets. Really nice touch on day of checking out to each have a very generous piece of cake to take home. What a lovely guesthouse with lovely hosts! Would recommend and would most definitely book again."
