"We have just returned from 10 days spent at Spilia Village. We had a superb stay: a place to recommend to those looking for an authentic place in a village currently being restored, far from soulless hotel complexes. Very warm welcome: thank you to Arthémis for making the effort to speak to us in French, thank you to Manos for his daily good humor and to Dora and Miranta for their kindness!! and to all those whose names we didn't necessarily remember... Everyone was very kind and attentive! Very beautiful swimming pool with lovely trees, restaurant in a stone interior, in short, we loved it!!"

"Absolutely top-notch staff service! The dining was also superb, and the views were incredibly stunning. The only issue was that the elevator in the lobby frequently malfunctioned, getting stuck and not opening its doors unless someone pressed the button from the outside. As for hardware, the power outlets on the walls in the room were a bit loose. Other hardware was fine."

📍 Chania, Kolimvari

"After a delay due to the air traffic control problem, we finally arrived at 3am to the Mrs Chryssana hotel and were left in darkness at the bottom of the walkway to the hotel reception, to find it closed and our keys in an envelope taped to the reception door, so not the welcome we were expecting. On finding our room (105 on the first floor) we unpacked and read through the welcome note from the hotel telling us there were some snacks in the fridge as we had missed the evening meal (we had chosen half board). So as we were famished by that time we looked in the fridge and could not believe what we had been given..a large plate consisting of what had clearly been on the dinner menu that night, cold inedible chips, lamb chop, chicken wings, some sort of cubed meat in a sauce that had gone rock hard and fish that was unidentifiable, all stone cold and inedible. what a disappointment, note to the chef, some bread, ham, cheese and olives would have been better appreciated. Room 105 is directly above the downstairs refrigeration generator, the noise was horrendous so we did not get much sleep on our first night(we booked 14 nights) and requested a room change the next morning, which was sorted within the hour, along to room 103, what a difference! Thank you so much to the lovely lady on reception for arranging so quickly, So, Pros: Lovely location for a relaxing holiday, beach just across the road at the end of the hotel walkway, pebbly but we knew that before we chose the hotel. Rooms kept really clean, thank you to the super cleaning staff and a comfortable bed with good pillows Pool area very nice, clean and tidy, plenty of sun beds and parasols and towels provided Staff are friendly and helpful Breakfast is buffet style, varied and freshly cooked hot food as well as the usual continental breakfast items and local Cretan options Lots of different flavour tea to choose from, hot water and coffee is from a machine, fruit juices (not fresh but from powder concentrate so a bit watery but ok) Cons: Dinner in the evening was in the same dining room as breakfast but no effort to make the atmosphere even a tiny bit more sophisticated, (this is an adult only hotel) same disposable paper place mats as at breakfast, either very low or mostly no background music at all, most of the glasses were chipped and no nice lighting , even an LED candle on the table would have been nice Only 2 choices of red and white wine and 1 rose Food was unimaginative, even for a self service buffet it wasn’t presented well, not even any garnish Please take the fish fingers off the menu, we are grown-ups Desserts are clearly frozen and thawed which is fine, but please pimp them up a bit with some decoration, a bit of imagination needed After the first 2 nights there didn’t seem to be any lobby bar service in the evening while we were there Subsequently due to all of this we ended up eating out at the local restaurants in Kolymbari and one lovely sunset evening in Chania (Michali"

"This hotel gives you good greek vibes! Love the atmosphere here, with lovely quotes around the pool area. Friendly staff, booth the housekeeping, in the reception- and the man in the bar and the women in the kitchen. Super good greek food, and other dishes in the bar. Perfect for booth solo traveling, with friends, coupels or your family. 7 minutes walk from a Nice and quite beach with free sunbeds (if you just be something from the restaurant that owns the sunbeds). Me and my friend likes kolymbari so much. We got a quite and realaxing vacation here at Apeha Village- and isnt that what We all want? Also want to say that bus to Platanias and Chania (same bus) works perfecly! 3,6 euro per person, and the bus was always on time."

"Very nice hotel, perfect pool access suite. Luxury family-friendly hotel with a fantastic kids' club team! The children's water playground is fantastic. Very large and beautiful pool! The staff is very friendly! A little something for my daughter's 3rd birthday! The all-inclusive is very good! With the added bonus of à la carte dinners 👌 I highly recommend this hotel! We stayed 6 nights. Everything was perfect!"

"Facilities and food ok! Door of room stiff and didn’t just shut without a nudge, “junior suite” with pool if kids jumped in, got shouted at by those sun bathing below! Manager rude unhelpful and actually I asked her to stop speaking to me as she was ruining my day! It’s a shame get rid of the bad atmosphere and it could be a nice place! To mention we only had driving licences at check in but forced to drive 2 hour round trip to go and collect passports including wanting to documents the under 18, wonders if gdpr is actually a thing how are they storing handling my data! (Previously given a passport per booking in Crete and having visited the island 12 plus times weird that suddenly we needed kids) anyway zero reminder on the whole passport thing via booking so we had to go back to our villa collect the passports and come back! Which kinda ruined the planed day but had we not been met with the narcissistic manager the hotel may of got a slightly better review…waits with baited breath for the comments from this woman who has zero empathy or ability to solve problems help etc! Had we got our money back we would have cancelled. However I quote “hahaha I would never give refund when you forgot your passports”"

Spilia Village Hotel & Villas ★★★★
"We were stopping at a villa in the village and went to the hotel for dinner one night. We thought the food was very overpriced and fairly average quality, but it is a lovely location and the staff were excellent and very friendly. I guess its primary purpose is as a hotel rather than as a restaurant."

Avra Imperial Hotel ★★★★★
"We stayed in a deluxe suite with a pool for 7 days. The room was somewhat run-down and felt quite old, unlike the photos online. Cleanliness was also subpar, likely due to the room's age. For example, there was mold in the grout between the bathroom sink and surrounding tiles, and the floor was cracked and always felt dirty. The sofa was white but very dirty, with faded colors and grime. The room's soundproofing was poor; we could hear conversations from upstairs in the bathroom. Furthermore, although the hotel advertised an all-inclusive package, they were very strict about bottled water and meal times. Each person was only allowed one bottle of water at a time, and it wasn't delivered; we had to get it ourselves from the bar. We were rushed around for meals if it was even slightly late, and the staff became quite rude. We had a small baby traveling with us, and although we requested a crib during booking and reminded the hotel via WhatsApp, there was no crib in the room. We waited over an hour after check-in before an extra crib was provided, disrupting the baby's sleep. In short, our experience with the hotel was subpar; the facilities, cleanliness, and service were not worth it."

MRS Chryssana Beach Hotel ★★★
"Just back from Mrs Chrysannas. The hotel was very pretty and spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As we arrived late 1am, there was no-one to meet us, but our key and directions were left at the front door and we checked in fully the next day. The room was spacious, had a good sized balcony with sea view, but was in the shade all day and the room lacked storage for our clothes having just a wardrobe and only enough room in the drawers for underwear, so we lived out of our cases. The pool area was lovely but not so of you have children, as nothing for them except a shallow pool. The pool did not open until 10.30 so if you want an early morning swim you will be disappointed and closed at 7.30 for our 1st week but got earlier and earlier during our stay until it was closing at 6. This hotel advertises as quiet and tranquil and it was, but was lacking in atmosphere and could have done with some Cretan music at the bar and in the background at the restaurant area to remind us of where we were staying! The food. Well it was a bit hit and miss for us. Staying all inclusive we had a buffet for the meals. Breakfast was good with a wide selection of cooked or continental. but the cooked was cold by the time we reached the table with it. Lunch and dinner were uninspiring and we were offered some very fatty pork on at least 4 occasions. There was a lack of vegetables at the evening meal - thank goodness for the greek salad which I ate a lot of! Other reviews mentioned a bbq at the pool area during the day but all we were offered was sandwiches and cake. We ate out several times to get a more greek experience. The area was quiet, the village was small and a bit out of the way but the bus to Chania was frequent and cheap. Loved Chania!. Overall we enjoyed our stay but felt it could have been better"

Aphea Village ★★★
"We stayed here as a couple in June for 5nights. The pool area, public areas and gardens are immaculate! We stayed in room : apartment 51 which was at the top of 4 steep flights of stairs (not good if you’ve got mobility issues!!) We were slightly disappointed when we entered there was a strong musty smell, although the walls had been painted, the kitchen area was tired, with scrapes and small chunks missing on the worktops. It looked grubby and shabby. There was also no kettle which meant we ended up having to buy one at the local supermarket!! When I mentioned this to the lady on reception, she said that they don’t leave them in the rooms, you have to go ask her as they don’t leave them in the rooms. I’ve never heard of that before !!! And it certainly didn’t cross my mind to ask at reception when it was an apartment with equipped kitchenette that we’d booked. Rare to have a hot shower and the bathroom was shocking. The bath was rusty, stained and made me not want to step into it. We were told that the rooms / apartments were undergoing renovations and we assumed they hadn’t visited 51 as yet. It also lacked patio furniture out the front. That would have been a nice touch. Views were absolutely stunning over the town, harbour and sea from Upstairs. The bar and pool are owned by/ run separately from the hotel and the food / drinks were lovely. Pool immaculately clean and maintained. Overall, a relaxing short stay (if you overlook the tiredness of our apartment)"

"Next time I go, I think I'll plan to stay a little longer. It was so comfortable and nice that I almost regretted my short stay. The pool was much longer and larger than it appears in the photos, and I was impressed by the design, which allowed everyone in the room to enjoy the pool close to home."

Selini Suites & Waterpark ★★★★
"Firstly we really did enjoy our holiday especially visiting chania however the hotel is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The Pros first were, our room had a beautiful sea view. The wait staff were incredibly attentive and it had a bus stop right outside the hotel making transport easy. However there were a lot more cons, the alcoholic drinks were extremely watered down to the point it felt like you were just drinking pop and not wine. There also seemed to be a lot of preferential Treatment, It was noticeable that guests who paid extra for certain upgrades, like premium cocktails, received more attention than those with all-inclusive packages with my mum being ignored at the bar for multiple minutes whilst the bar staff chatted to those who paid the extra bit for close to 5 min, which felt a bit unfair. One of the worst parts was the early Morning noise there was consistently loud noises early every morning around 7 AM. There were constant sounds of hammering, scraping chairs, and banging, which made it difficult to sleep in and enjoy our vacation, we realised they were having construction done above us which we weren't told about. The fire alarm went off 3 times late at night and we heard nothing from reception about what was going on, I had to run down and ask and was shrugged off saying it was just a problem in the kitchen. the alarm then went off again at 7am which woke us up, when we asked them again after breakfast the receptionist just smirked and said it was a little problem, my mum then told him they should've really let us know what was happening because multiple fire alarms going off is scary, he carried on smirking and only when my mum started to get mad did he apologise. There were a few problems as well with the room, the door firstly was extremely stiff, when locking it from the inside the lock just seemed to keep spinning, maybe 4 or 5 full turns before it locked. There was a kettle with cups but no tea coffee sugar or milk which we found weird because why have the facilities for it? the shower was a walk in one with just a small glass barrier that didn't reach fully across, this meant that everytime we showered it practically flooded the bathroom, the shower head also looked very dirty. At night there was also a weird crackling noise constantly which was either coming from the TV or the air con we couldn't figure out which. One of the days when I went to use the self serve drink machine it seemed there were ants either In the machine or in the cups you grab from the side. Also upon arrival there was a lack of Information given, they took our passports for a couple of hours, we were given a list for meal times and then given the key, we had to ask for the safe information which was free he just forgot to tell us, we then had to ask other guests where we went to dinner as we didn't know since during the day the area was closed off. The food was extremely limited and repetitive, they had basic salad bar which wasnt covered up so often "

Giannoulis – Cavo Spada Luxury Sports & Leisure Resort & Spa ★★★★★
"This was our second visit to Cavo Spada and we were made to feel as welcome as our first stay. Front desk and senior management are always very helpful and facilitated a room request for us. The Hotel Manager and Restaurant Manager, again - very welcoming. The hotel is on low levels so feels spacious and open. It is not in the centre of a resort but a semi short walk to local sandy beach at Kolymbari. Main buffet restaurant covers a wide range of foods for all preferences and lots of choices for all meals. Always kept topped us and warm. Lovely set of five very well behaved and clean ginger kittens came to play with those interested in stroking them. We ate lunch at Sealine three times during our stay, service and food all excellent. Pool bar team are amazing, helpful and work so hard. King prawn saganaki was very good. We also ate at the Azzuro restaurant, great very luxurious food. Quite rich so go with an empty stomach. Main bar has some great characters and again excellent service. We watched the England World Cup games in the main bar and the atmosphere was pleasantly competitive, we were in the minority but all nationalities were great fun. The room was a good size and cleaned daily. Mini bar - not included in all-inclusive, but no big deal as can get everything from the bars. Love this hotel and glad we found it, already booked to come back next year!"
