"I want to start by saying we had a fab holiday, a relaxing break filled with lots of lovely things to do. Our party consisted of My husband and I (late 40s) daughters age 16, 14, 11 and my active parents in their mid 70s. We are not big drinkers, but like the occasional drink, 3 of the party are vegetarian. We usually go on 5* holidays. The hotel was well spaced out with lots of pools (cold salt water - children didn't mind, but not great for the adults!). Lots of steps everywhere. The planes do fly directly overhead. All of this we read about before and didn't really mind about. The fact that everything was spaced out was a bonus for us as it never really felt busy! Lots of sunlounges everywhere, but despite the signs, people did get up at silly O' clock to reserve the ones directly by the pool. The hotel was a little dated and some of the grounds really could do with a freshen up and some maintenance, however the rooms and communal areas were very clean. The a la carte restaurants were good, presentation being slightly better than the food, great for Instagram’s pics. Wouldn't run to go back, limited veggie options, but nice enough and made a change from the buffet. The Main buffet at breakfast, lunch and dinner was very good, quite a good range and they had different nights including 'Asian, fish, international and Greek'. Lots of fresh fruit and salad dishes. Good desserts. Not a big of a selection as a I would expect for a 5* rating especially when it came to cold meats, vegetarian dishes, desserts, cheese, breads and pastries. But what we ate was good… although Youngest has food poisoning at the end of the holiday which we suspect was from pink chicken. We always found somewhere to sit at the buffet but it does get busy during peek times and you cant always get a seat in the air con areas. Snack bar food was ok at a basic level, chips, burgers and nuggets. No vegetarian options. Ice cream and shakes were nice - but very limited basic flavours. BIG queues!! Cocktails and mocktails were OK, basic selection and tasted basic. Drinkable - but nothing to write home about. No frozen drinks which the children were disappointed by. We had drinks fridges in our room with plenty of water and fizzy drinks topped up daily. The amphitheatre I'd give 0 stars to as a venue. It looked like a deserted dilapidated version of the place you go to see sea lions perform, with tiered uncomfortable plastic seating. We only watched one show, the lights and fire show. My girls gave it 2.5*. There is nowhere to get a drink by the theatre. We did go to a quiz night there run by the entertainment staff and that was great fun. Entertainment staff (animation team) were exactly that, entertaining and animated, so friendly and approachable (without being in - you -face) made the quiz and pool games so much fun. "I am going to be completely honest here, there are pros and cons. We arrived at around midnight with two children who were very tired. Check in took a short while, but we were given a mocktail while we checked in, and handed a bag with sandwiches and apples in before we went to our room. The receptionist, I felt, did not explain how the hotel worked very well which I will go in to later. After check in, a buggy drove us to our room which we a fun perk, and definitely better than dragging cases down a huge hill. On arrival, our rooms were well presented, clean, tidy and modern. The pool and pool bar was very close to our room, which we loved. I believe wherever your room is you’re close to a pool which again, is a good perk! The food - the hotel has 3 restaurants, two at the top of the hill, and one near the bottom close to the “quiet pool” the food is basic at best. There were little to no option for children, no chicken nuggets, pizza wasn’t on daily, and we did not see fish fingers more than once, so our children really struggled. The panorama restaurant has a theme night which was ok, not amazing and not 5* or even 4*, pork chops were impossible to cut or chew through for example. The lunch menu at the restaurant is poor. The restaurant by the quiet pool did offer a late breakfast and lunch time menu, sandwiches, a few pasta dishes and salad which was lovely, but we obviously did not want to eat that every day, they could benefit from a few more options maybe? The pool bar snack menu is the absolute worst I have ever come across. There are options available to grab, sandwiches (on hard bread), salad, and a few pastries but that’s pretty much it. One of the chefs comes down for around 2 hours and makes something but there is only 1 option eg, hot dogs one day, burger the next - and again, it is on hard bread. My kids could not chew through the bread. After 2/3pm (can’t quite remember the time) there is no hot foot available until the evening, so if you have small children they have to wait until evening for a meal. In previous places we have usually fed our children before going to the room to get ready which has kept them full, but this was not an option here. Overall, we were disappointed in the lack of children’s options, and even for adults and the lack of choice of hot snacks at the pool bar. Around 4/5 days in I did go and speak to reception about the disappointment in the food, they said we could speak to a chef and they’d make something for the kids, so I did this and was told I needed to give them 24 hours notice. On one occasion they brought a pizza to our room but it was not the same quality we had seen in the restaurant. The next evening the chef made a pizza for us using the pizza oven and it was great, the kids loved it. So I was glad that although it took a bit of messing and back and forth, we finally had a solution. The first 5 days of our stay, our room was “cleaned” once which was barely cleaned. "Staff were very friendly and resort was amazing. Staff organised a birthday cake with candles and a letter for my sister without being made previously aware of the birthday. We asked for dinner recommendations for her birthday and came back to find birthday cake and card. Great selection of food and restaurants with ample sunbeds around the pools and beach for tanning. We had a late flight so staff collected our luggage from rooms and stored safely, allowing us to continue using the resort facilities. Also able to shower and freshen up in the departures lounge before heading to the airport. Overall great experience, would definitely go back."
