Mercure Wakayama Kushimoto Resort & Spa ★★★★
"Came to walk the Kumano Kodo Ohechi route and stayed in Kushimoto for the second night, choosing the dinner and breakfast plan. The room facilities are a bit dated, but I highly recommend the public areas and service! The buffet for both breakfast and dinner offered a great selection and included drinks, which was delicious. After hiking, I needed to do laundry, so I used the hotel's washer-dryrier combo, which was very convenient."
Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Nanki Kushimoto ★★★★
"I've been coming here many times, and it's great for families because the food is so enjoyable. The main purpose of my trip is the food at Oedo Onsen Monogatari."
Business Hotel Kushimoto Ekimae ★★
"It's close to a supermarket, has free hot springs, provides yukata (light robes), has a good location, and the hotel reception is also very nice."
Fairfield by Marriott Wakayama Kushimoto ★★★
"Don't trust Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book). I was fooled by the pictures of the sea view from the window. The location is so remote. I arrived at 8 pm on the first night and there were no taxis available. I had to call the hotel myself, but my phone didn't have roaming enabled. The road was so bad that the wheels on my suitcase broke. The hotel has nothing to offer, except for the incredibly thick quilt (winter and summer alike, you can imagine). The only positive thing was the friendly English-speaking Indian guy at the front desk."
Kushimoto, Minpaqu "Azashi" ★★
"This is a guesthouse, the owner's own house. It's a 15-minute walk from the tram stop if you don't have a car. The owner is very warm and honest; dinner's main dish is fish caught during a sea fishing trip. He likes Chinese tourists but is also bothered by their overly formal way of asking questions. Therefore, if you want to stay here, please include your location and length of stay in your email, and don't forget to exchange pleasantries—Japanese communication values these aspects. Here are a few snapshots from my trip to Kushimoto Town."
Misaki Lodge Nishida ★★
"A wonderful hotel with delicious food! The location is excellent. Getting there is a bit tricky; the bus runs every couple of hours, and it's an hour and a half walk from the station. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are well-kept and clean."
Kominka Noie ★★★★
"The house is 150 years old and has been renovated. But there was no front desk clerk, only a mobile phone number, and no one responded to text messages or phone calls. Transportation is very inconvenient. There are no taxis, and you have to walk a long way to get to the bus stop. There is only one bus every one or two hours. Only suitable for tourists who drive themselves. Since I didn't drive, it was very, very hard. The room next door was equipped with a stove. The residents chopped wood in the yard and burned it to keep warm. The thick smoke blew into the room I lived in, choking us so much that we had to go out to take shelter."
Staying at Kumano Kodo - KOZA River House Yukawa-tei ★★★
Arafune Resort ★★
"I stayed here on December 31st. I couldn't see the ocean when I stayed in a Western-style room before, so this time I chose a Japanese-style room on the ocean side. I paid a little extra and got a large Japanese-style room with two rooms connected together. It was bright, had a good view of the ocean, and the bathroom and other water facilities had been renovated, so it was very comfortable. I went to the large public bath immediately after checking in. There were only a few people there for the day, so it was nice and empty. The hot spring warmed me up very well. For dinner, I had a bento box with roast beef and other dishes, and grilled abalone. Since it was New Year's Eve, we also had soba noodles. Everything was delicious. The man at the front desk and the woman in the restaurant were friendly and kind, and I was able to spend a relaxing time. If I have the opportunity, I would like to stay here again."
