Hôtel Montcalm Paris

Amazing

GBHere there everywhere
Clean hotel with basic amenities, with pretty rooms.❤️ Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, a half an hour's walk to the Eiffel tower 🗼and lots of museums🎨. There are a lot of train/metro stations nearby🚝🚉, a minute or two away. There is an overwhelm of award winning cafes ☕🥐 everywhere so you are spoilt for choice. The check-in process is very smooth, the staff friendly. The room is quiet, you cannot hear the street outside with closed windows, but you might hear your neighbours showering/coughing. Overall great stay 😊

This hotel is part of the Palais des Congrès de Paris complex, and it's one of the few high-rise buildings in the city. From my 8th-floor room facing south, I could see both the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Getting to the metro is super convenient; you can walk directly through the convention center, which is a huge plus in often rainy Paris. The breakfast was incredibly rich, offering rice, omelets, stir-fried vegetables, and over five kinds of fruit, plus hazelnut chocolate. The room was quite spacious by Parisian standards. Just a heads-up, Montmartre Hill, as shown in some photos, isn't actually visible – I had to stick my phone out the window to capture it. Now, a special warning about the taxis right outside the hotel. They are dishonest, so be careful. Taxis from Charles de Gaulle Airport to central Paris have a fixed zone-based fare: 65 euros for the Left Bank and 56 euros for the Right Bank. If you order a taxi via an app or phone, there's an additional 4-euro booking fee. We took a taxi from the hotel, which is on the Right Bank. The concierge confirmed the fixed fare would be 56 euros. However, after hailing a taxi right outside, the driver tried to charge us 65 euros (the Left Bank rate) plus a 4-euro booking fee upon arrival at the airport. After a lengthy argument, and even calling the hotel, the driver finally charged 56 euros plus the 4-euro booking fee. So, even after arguing, we still ended up paying the extra booking fee. The hotel itself is very nice, clean, and well maintained. The housekeeping staff does an excellent job each day, and the front desk team is consistently friendly and professional. Overall, the service from staff was a strong highlight of my stay. The location was decent, although getting around took a bit longer than expected—this may simply be due to the metro system rather than the hotel itself. Unfortunately, the main issue I experienced was with the air conditioning, which significantly impacted my stay. Upon arrival, the room felt quite warm, with the thermostat reading 21°C. I initially assumed this was due to the time of day, but after being out for several hours, the room remained uncomfortably hot. When I reported this to the front desk, I was told everything was functioning properly. That night, the heat made it very difficult to sleep. The next morning, I requested a fan from the manager and was assured it would be placed in my room. However, when I returned later that evening, there was no fan, and the room felt even warmer. After another visit to the front desk, they adjusted the system to 18°C. Despite this, the room temperature did not improve. Upon further review, staff discovered that while the system displayed 18°C, the actual room temperature was 27°C. They apologized and offered to move me to a different room with a twin bed for the night, which I accepted since the original room was uninhabitable due to the heat. I was told the air conditioning unit would be repaired the following day. The next morning, I confirmed with the front desk that the repair would be completed while I was out. However, when I returned in the evening, nothing had been fixed. I was then informed that the technician was not working that day, and the only option available was to move to a downgraded room. I accepted again out of necessity, but the new room was significantly smaller. Unfortunately, no compensation or refund was offered for the inconvenience or downgrade. Even after switching rooms, the issues continued, as the air conditioning repeatedly turned off and required additional trips to the front desk to resolve. In summary, this is a well-maintained hotel with excellent staff and good overall value. However, the air conditioning issues were a major drawback. If having reliable climate control is important to you—especially during warmer months—you may want to consider this before booking.

The room was very well-equipped, with cooking utensils provided, and the dishwasher was a big plus; however, the air conditioning and heating systems kept turning off automatically, and the heater wouldn't turn on. After we reported this, the hotel provided breakfast for us one day because the repairs didn't take place until after check-out! Very nice! 👍🏻

I stayed for 7 days. The location is excellent, and I felt at ease knowing that English was spoken.✨ **Location:** It's within walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe and Avenue des Champs-Élysées, meaning there are tons of train and bus lines available! You can even get to the Eiffel Tower and Disneyland without any transfers. Access to Charles de Gaulle Airport is also good, taking about 50 minutes by train or 35 minutes by car. I also went to Orly Airport for one night to visit Nice. You can get to the airport line (CDG, ORLY) with just one transfer, so the location is truly fantastic. **Amenities:** Water and potato chips were provided daily. Tea and a kettle were also available, which was a nice touch. There are no toothbrushes, pajamas, or slippers. I brought my own slippers to use in the room. I never quite figured out why some days there were no chips or water (lol). **Cleanliness:** Bed making was done meticulously every day. It seems towels are only replaced if left on the floor; they weren't replaced on days I left them on the shelf.

We booked 3 rooms here at Lyf Paris Gambetta. It was amazing. The location is the best, there are two metro stations within an 8 minute walk. My whole family enjoyed it so much, there are many shops nearby so getting food is very easy. The hotel itself had many amenities, including gym and sauna, as well as a beautiful courtyard that you could eat your own food at. The Eiffel Tower was only 30-40 minutes away via metro. The staff were exceptional and kind, they helped us with all our needs. A special thanks to Darien and Rubel, who were very hospitable and kind to us during our stay. Definitely will stay at this hotel if I come back to Paris.

The price is reasonable, and having a police station downstairs made us feel very safe. It's conveniently located near a metro station, but we mostly took Ubers to get around. Ubers to major attractions were only about 10-15 Euros, which was cost-effective for a group. The area is a local residential neighborhood with a Carrefour supermarket, fruit stores, delicious cafes, bakeries, restaurants, and a pharmacy. The sink was a bit clogged, but the front desk quickly sent someone to fix it. Overall, a great stay, and I'd consider staying here again.

The hotel's location is excellent: close to the metro, McDonald's, and a grocery store are very close, and all the city center attractions are within walking distance. The staff is helpful and polite. The hotel is in good condition, with a working elevator and plenty of TV channels. The room is small, like all Paris hotels. The most important thing in winter is that the hotel is very warm! The bathroom had a window :) Cons: - No kettle in the room - Safe doesn't work - Very small shower stall (barely fits a 90+ kg person)

AMAKA SPARKLE
Very horrible hotel for black female travellers. I stayed at the Originals with my friend for 3 nights, then another 2 nights. We pre-booked and paid for the 3 nights in FULL before arrival. Upon arrival, we were charged a deposit of €150 Euros which was explained to be a security deposit to be returned after checkout.I had no issues with that and focused on exploring Paris. There was a day my room wasn’t cleaned and I complained to a mixed lady at the hotel reception politely to inform the cleaner and she condescendingly looked at me and blurted “I’m not the cleaner”. I never asked her to be one, I only informed her so she can tell the cleaners to make a stop at my room and refill the shower gel, replace soap and toilet paper. The day I checked out, I missed my flight due to the Paris traffic and had to reschedule my flight to the next available date which was in 48 hours which meant I needs to stay in Paris for another 2 nights. I headed back to the hotel. I don’t know why but our cards refused to work despite being funded. We had some Euros cash left in cash and paid for one extra night. The next day, we asked to extend but our cards wouldn’t work. We informed them that we needed to get some sleep but would try an ATM or go to a BDC to change some Dollars. In between, the cleaner came to the room and yanked off our key card cutting off the light supply, we were barraged with calls from the reception threatening that security was going to escort us out of the room. It’s wild because most of their staff is black and yet they treated us like ****. We saw how white guests were treated and black guests and the difference was clear. Maybe they had an assumption and became discriminatory towards us. Note that 4 nights out of 5 was already paid in FULL and they had a security deposit of over 200 Euros with them. We had to abandon everything and rush to an ATM to withdraw more cash💰 to pay for the final day. Let’s not get into the fact that one of their staff ******* almost tried to be ****** with me. I got into the elevator to go and get water at the restaurant on the 8th floor, he kept looking at my boobs and made suggestive comments about wanting to spend the night with me. He also insisted on a hug. I cried from the experience of that hotel and very horrified. As a travel content creator, I will document my experience with videos when I’m back home and share YouTube videos. If you’re a Nigerian or black woman, please avoid THE ORIGINALS. I was excited to be here but it turned into a nightmare. As a business owner myself and CEO of 3 thriving companies, I saw some many lapses in their customer service. The entire place needs a staff overhaul.
