"This hotel is an old convent that was converted to a hotel. It's located close to tourist areas of interest. The grounds are well kept. The rooms are spacious, but very basic. The air conditioning had difficulty keeping up with the heat, so the room was quite warm most of the time. Breakfast was included in the cost of the room, but it was very basic buffet food."

"It is my second staying. As my previously experience, everything was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Leon, Nicaragua. "Many people look at this place as one of the best hotels in the city. We do not understand why as we found the place very disappointing. This is not because of the lovely, colonial building, its good internet and location (close to the amazing art museum, beautiful cathedral and museum of poet Ruben Dario). It is about the atmosphere, food and the lack of service. The rooms look and feel like prisons (this is understandable realizing what their history is) but why not designing them more nicely. Now every room has two queen beds, bright lights and no atmosphere. Breakfast was super boring. Every morning the same basic not tasty, cold stuff. A reason for us not to eat in the restaurant at all. You only get one bottle of water (for the rest you have to pay and you should not drink the tap water). No water cooker in the room. Staff at reception and in the restaurant does hardly speak English. We asked one morning what time breakfast started and the lady at reception could not even answer. We will not return and do not recommend!"

"Honestly, Hotel Austria was such a top tier stay. The location is really top notch for location. It’s steps away from the Main Plaza in Leon and pretty much most of the things you’d need to walk to. Refrigerators weren’t automatically in the rooms, but you can rent a refrigerator for an extremely reasonable price. Mine was under $5USD for the entire time I was there. The courtyard and the rooms have a nice secluded oasis feel given that it’s so close to city center and it was pleasing to come back to after all the tours, nightlife, or exploring. The breakfast included was made to order. There were options like the traditional America, Pancakes, and some other things, but I went with #4 The Nicaraguan because that’s where we’re at and it was amazing every time. It came with coffee (about two cups worth) and orange juice. Safety was on point. They have a guard in the front all day/night and they can also help you get a taxi as well. I have no complaints and highly recommend this hotel for anyone coming to Leon."

"Upon check in there was confusion with our multiple reservations. We had a group of 9. We did not find the front desk agent that greeted us to be friendly. And then we were told that none of the rooms had hot water, which was not specified when we booked online via booking. In addition, the room that we stayed in # 11, had something living in the ceiling (we think it was a bat), plus there was plastic and cardboard taped to the ceiling. Another thing to point out is that the AC mini split unit in that room is not adequate for the size of the room and the fact that it has vaulted ceilings. So during the day it is hot and does not cool down much until night time. The walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors and it’s hard to sleep because the next-door neighbors have multiple dogs barking all night. This is a very basic hotel, but I guess people expect less since you’re paying less, however maintenance should be the most basic thing in any hotel. The descriptions of the rooms should also be more clear. (For example, we had booked multiple rooms thinking they all had AC. But not all of the rooms in the hotel have AC and it was not mentioned that some rooms did not have AC so we had to switch at time of check-in.). This hotel could be nice, but it needs much better attention to detail."
