Zafiria ★★
Calypso Hotel ★★
"First time in Crete and we had a blast at this hotel :) Pros- 1. Wide selection of delicious Cretan food served at breakfast & dinner buffet 2. Friendly, smiling & accomodating hotel staff 3. Well decorated exterior- especially the garden & pool, really enjoyed taking photos 4. The staff will just let you leave your bags if your transfer is late in the night and you needed to check out already. They even will let you use the pool and the public toilet & shower Cons- 1. No wifi connection in the room 2. No toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste- so remember to bring some with you 3. No coffee & tea- but there’s kettle if you buy your own coffee & tea 4. Ac- broke down during our last night Overall, I can recommend this hotel for people who are flexible to the cons and not get easily disappointed, and must have a positive outlook like us :) I am writing here just for a full & honest review to help others out there who wants to know more 🫶🏻 Hope this review helps! ❤️"
Matala Hostel ★★
"I stayed at this hostel for one night during a music festival, and I had a really positive experience. The room was clean, the staff were very polite and helpful, and they even provided me with an extra blanket when I asked. The location is excellent—right next to the bus stop, just a 5–7 minute walk to the beach, and close to the city center. The room had a proper renovation, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and I slept comfortably. Overall, I enjoyed my stay"
Matala Dimitris Resort ★★★
"Worst experience in a hotel: absolutely avoid. I wouldn't even call the Dimitris Villa a "hotel": it's a country house masquerading as a tourist facility. We had booked a double room, but without any prior notice, we were assigned a single with two tiny beds, barely suitable for children. The bedding was embarrassing: a simple sheet placed directly on the mattress, without a mattress protector—definitely unhygienic (I've attached a photo). The room was cramped, not soundproofed (we could hear every word from the neighbors), and the bathroom was unusable: the shower and sink were completely clogged. The check-in (after 3:30 PM) and check-out times are inconvenient, and there's no real reception. The breakfast is extremely basic and definitely not worth the extra cost. But the worst came on the second day: after returning from a day at the beach, we found the room exactly as we'd left it—no cleaning, no towel change. After reporting the problem to the agency, they lied, saying they'd contacted us to fix the room, which never happened. I just wanted to leave, even if it meant losing my money! Non-existent service, neglected property, don't be fooled by the photos: this place is anything but a hotel. A complete scam!"
Matala Bay Hotel & Apartments ★★★
"Hotel annexes: across the street. The room was dreadful: stuck in the 70s (see photos). Breakfast was adequate. The pool was green and murky for two days: no apology, no information, and swimming was still allowed. Unacceptable."
Hotel Neos Matala ★★
"A very fond memory. We've been there twice in a row and it's always great. The owners (Cornelia and Michael) are extremely nice, as well as the related guests, all one big family. If you are looking for the luxury of a 5-star hotel, look elsewhere. The priority here is the atmosphere, maximum cleanliness, the effort to fulfill every wish of the guest. A few minutes' walk to the center or the beach. We teach everyone. Marian and Viera, Slovakia"
Fragiskos Hotel ★★★
"Super friendly team family atmosphere very good food very clean room near the sea and small shops magnificent landscapes"
Hotel Eva Marina ★★
"Great location right in the heart of Matala with friendly staff . Free off road parking is nearby . Would definitely stay here again !"
Elea Terra Hotel ★★★
"We started on the wrong foot at Elea Terra, when the lady at the reception asked us to pay extra for the air conditioning that was included in our price. Apparently there is a problem with booking .com , where it simply doesn't say anywhere that air contidioning costs extra. But after the problem was solved we had a fantastic time there. The rooms are basic, but big enough and good enough. The pool area is fantastic, with real grass, and very calm. The buffet breakfast was excellent considering the price of the rooms. We stayed at more expensive places with much smaller buffets. And the location was perfect: walking distance to the beach, but distant enough so we didn't have to deal with the crowd and noise that goes with it. I highly recommend Elea Terra! It's great value for money."
