"There are lots of features that make this hotel a great choice in Matera. First, we really enjoyed our room which had a superb view and was suitably atmospheric. We appreciated the interesting configuration of the hotel, which is really an interconnected complex of ancient buildings. There are outdoor seating areas scattered throughout for different vantage points on the spectacular views of Matera. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly and responded instantly to WhatsApp messages. We were without dinner reservations for one night, and the restaurant they recommended was a highlight of our trip."

"This is a truly tranquil hotel. The beds are extremely comfortable and the surroundings very relaxing. Breakfast is leisurely, sumptuous and exquisitely executed. We had 4 nights here and I’d thoroughly recommend slowing down and spending that little while longer to simply enjoy. From a functional aspect the shuttle to the parking is convenient and it is a very well run parking lot. This hotel is fantastic as a base for any stay in Matera."

"The Vatera Matera hotel was opened just over a year ago and was eight years in the making. This cave hotel does indeed have windows in the rooms unlike others in the Sassi area. Vatera Matera gets high marks from us for professional staff, decor, services, and rooms. We were very pleased with all aspects. A special note of thanks to Francesco of the Spa area for the great sports massage that helped after many flights and stairs and steps on our exploration of the unique and special city of Matera."

Bathroom with superlative shower but no hook for towels. The only negative note was the very limited breakfast"
