"The building's exterior is old, but the interior is clean. They offer free drinks (soft drinks, coffee, alcohol), free curry, and a washing machine and dryer, so the service and facilities are excellent. It's not a luxury hotel, but for those looking for a cheap place to stay, it's very cost-effective. The foreign staff are fluent in Japanese and polite. I would like to stay there again if I have the opportunity."

Setre Marina Biwako ★★★★
"The hotel is a ten-minute drive from Katada Station. There is no pick-up service. There is a bus that goes to a place 500 meters away from the hotel. There are few buses, so it is recommended to take a taxi. The toll for the Biwako Bridge is about RMB 100. There are no businesses or attractions around, but you can go to Ukimido and Sagawa Art Museum at noon. The check-in staff was warm and thoughtful, and the service in every link was very good. All hotel rooms face the lake, with first-line lake views, floor-to-ceiling windows with wide views, and terraces from which you can see the sunset and sunrise over Lake Biwa. The facilities are a bit simple, without the usual safe and air purifier, which should be a must in a hotel. The hotel's eco-friendly style rooms do not have bathroom supplies, but the front desk can provide them. The bathroom doesn't have dry and wet separation. What's worse is that the space is large but you need to stand in the bathtub to take a bath. It's very uncomfortable for me to wash myself first and then take a bath and wait for the water to drain. It's not as comfortable as an integrated bathroom. The air conditioner is quiet, the bedding is average, the curtains are completely transparent, even at night, an eye mask is necessary, the design has a bit of rough details like the Hoshinoya, but all this can be compensated by the lake view. There is only one bottle of bulk water in the room refrigerator, but unlike the stingy hotel in Hoshinoya, the lounge here serves alcohol, beer, drinks, coffee and snacks all the time, with excellent quality. There are freshly made snacks at 3, 4 and 5 pm. The baking of this hotel is really amazing and delicious. Champagne is served from 5 to 5:30 pm. There are two dinner sessions, and the wine list is free to order, which is very generous. The dinner is Japanese and Western style, with a slightly slow pace. The main course of grilled Omi beef was a failure, with a smell of oil smoke, and the food was not as good as the dessert. There are four varieties of dessert boxes for after-meal snacks, which you can take back to your room and enjoy slowly. This hotel is very suitable for wine and dessert lovers. It is particularly excellent. Dinner may be an accidental mistake. It is recommended to include meals. The breakfast is simple in a box, not a buffet. You can also have breakfast in the room, which is very similar to the breakfast at Hoshinoya Kawaguchiko. Overall recommended to stay."

Hotel Biwako Plaza ★★
"I'm from Taiwan, and I walked to the hotel from JR Katata Station. As other reviews mentioned, it's an older hotel, and some of the decor might not be as new or modern. However, I actually find this kind of decor more relaxing. After all, being by Lake Biwa isn't a commercial area, and this style really enhances that laid-back atmosphere. I stayed in a triple room by myself. The room had wooden flooring. Upon entering, there's an entryway where you can take off your shoes. Inside, there was a sofa, a small table, a desk with a chair, and a movable TV. The room even had a rotary dial telephone, which was quite unique and the first time I'd seen one. The room basically faced the lake, with large windows offering an excellent view. You could see the entire Biwako Ohashi Bridge directly. On the first floor, the hotel offers free curry rice, juice, coffee, and various local sakes from the Lake Biwa area in the evenings. It's a fantastic setup, with plenty of sofa seating areas where you can relax, and even free massage chairs. They also have many toys and comic books you can borrow to read in your room. I think the public facilities are quite excellent. Breakfast is served on the 14th-floor restaurant. The variety of dishes wasn't extensive, but I found them all delicious. Several dishes were even highlighted as being made with local ingredients. The restaurant also has large windows facing Lake Biwa, so having breakfast while enjoying the scenery makes the whole experience worthwhile. Conveniently, there's a 7-Eleven, Lawson, and even a shopping mall within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel staff were all wonderful and friendly, and the front desk staff spoke English. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and would definitely choose to stay here again when I visit Lake Biwa next time."
