"Small compact room with modern interior. Comfy bed and well ventilated with mini fan provided. They provided extra bedsheet so that the sofa bed is converted to another single. Big enuf for a teenager to sleep on. Space big enough to open just one huge luggage. Somehow the room feels damp but we just stayed for two nights so did not bother changing rooms. Lots of free parking available. Near Aso milk factory which is a must visit for delicious pastries and snacks."

"This cozy family-run inn is run by a friendly and welcoming owner from Taiwan. He's come all the way to Japan to retire and start his second life, handling everything himself. He's always ready to help with any questions about accommodation, transportation, or sightseeing. The traditional Japanese wooden house has a charming, old-fashioned feel. The rooms and bathrooms are in the Showa era style, but have been renovated to be very comfortable, with complete heating and air conditioning. Even in spring, temperatures in Aso can sometimes drop to 0 degrees Celsius at night, but the bathrooms are heated, so there's no need to worry too much. The entire building has three or four suites, making it perfect for family trips or solo road trips. It's about a 1-1.5 hour drive from the inn to Mount Aso, or you can walk to Aso Shrine and take a bus to JR Aso Station. There's also a shopping street near the shrine where you can eat and shop; you can borrow a bicycle from the owner to get there. There's also a specialty Aso natural ice cream shop nearby – give it a try! Cycling through the nearby farmland in spring, summer, and autumn is a wonderful experience. The only issue is that from other major stations, you can't use IC cards, credit cards, or mobile transit cards to exit JR Miyashita Station; you must buy a ticket at the departure station first. Buses are also relatively infrequent in the vicinity. However, this isn't a problem if you're driving through Kyushu. I genuinely think this place is suitable for: 1. Those who have visited Japan multiple times and want to escape the hustle and bustle of tourist areas and enjoy natural scenery. 2. Those who enjoy tranquility or hiking in the mountains. 3. Family trips, or people who need a kitchen. "The tatami room is definitely worth experiencing. While the room itself has a toilet, there are no private showers, as guests primarily use the hotel's excellent communal onsen facilities. These fantastic facilities boast numerous hot spring pools, opening as early as 6 AM. Although the room rate might seem a bit steep, the overall experience and amenities provide incredible value. You get to enjoy spacious lawns, beautiful mountain views, two generous buffet meals daily (breakfast and dinner), and, of course, unlimited access to the rejuvenating hot springs. All things considered, it's genuinely great value for money."

"The hotel's location is excellent, the rooms are spacious, and the breakfast offers a great variety. The service is superb, and it's very conveniently located. It's probably the most luxurious hotel in the area, complete with indoor and outdoor hot springs!"

"We loved our stay at Kosugi Resort Lodge. The tatami room was huge and comfortable, with plenty of space to settle in. The unit comes with cooking facilities and a separate toilet, vanity, and bathroom — though the bathroom was cold to use during our stay. Location is great, with an amazing view of the surrounding mountain range that made every morning feel special. The onsen was unfortunately closed, but they provided vouchers for a nearby public onsen, which turned out to be a wonderful experience on its own. Overall, a peaceful, scenic stay that we’d happily come back to. Note to register at the reception which is near the entrance (parking lot #3) before heading to the lodge, about 3-4mins drive in. They have a resident cat which is super cute :)"

"As the first stop of my birthday trip, I chose Aso. Having previously worked as a hotel management professional, I had high expectations for the hotel’s facilities and services. My stay at Kakuman Hotel, along with my traveling companions, was thoroughly enjoyable—from check-in to the overall amenities, everything exceeded our satisfaction. The staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly, whether at the front desk or in the restaurant. Additionally, experiencing hot springs for the first time left us feeling deeply relaxed. Thank you to Kakuman Hotel for adding color to my journey.🙏🏼 While every aspect was highly satisfying, there was a minor shortcoming: the majority of diners in the restaurant were Korean tourists. On my second night, a small incident occurred during dinner. The server assigned me a seat where only tableware and a departure-time notice were placed. After I retrieved my food, I found three Korean guests (two elderly individuals and a middle-aged man) preparing to sit there. I was confused whether I had taken the wrong seat or if there was another reason, so I asked the guests. Unexpectedly, the man loudly called over the female server who had arranged the seat and sharply questioned her in Japanese. The server later found me the correct seat, which was at the table adjacent to the three guests. I felt deeply sorry for the female server being unjustly scolded, and I also did not understand why the Korean man needed to accuse her in such a loud tone—I would have been happy to apologize for my misunderstanding. Regarding the above incident, I would like to offer a suggestion: the tables in the restaurant are each equipped with a bucket of tableware and wet wipes, but there are no numbers or markers to identify the assigned seats. Guests can only rely on placing their own items or memory to remember their seats. I believe I am not the only one who has encountered a similar issue, and the hotel may consider adding markers to each table to make it easier for guests to recognize their assigned seats."

"The dinner food is very rich and fresh, the breakfast is as delicious, there is Asu Shrine nearby, and the private hot spring is very enjoyable. Definitely come again next time."

"The guesthouse is fantastic! While its location might be a bit inconvenient if you don't have a car, as it's quite a distance from the train station, both the rooms and the hot spring baths are very comfortable. They also provide washing machines and vending machines (laundry pods/detergent cost extra). The guesthouse staff offered excellent service; the next day, when I couldn't find a bus, they even drove me directly to the station. I'm truly grateful for that! I would definitely choose to stay here again next time!"
