"A quiet and pleasant farmhouse nestled in the heart of nature. The dirt road makes the arrival a bit adventurous, but nothing too difficult. There are only 10 rooms, but you'll be pampered by the host from the moment you arrive. The breakfast is excellent, and you can also accommodate allergies and intolerances. Mr. Andrea is more than available for any recommendations on local attractions and restaurants. The price is excellent for what you get. There are some improvements to the rooms and the deck, but nothing exceptional. Having the lake and grounds to yourself is a real pleasure. The rooms are well soundproofed, and at night you can only hear the sounds of the nocturnal animals. The view of the stars overhead at night is beautiful, especially if the sky is clear."

"Where can I begin? If I tell you how nice this retreat is, you'll all want to go and it'll be fully booked when I want to go back!!! From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, Daniella and her staff were superb, especially Malina! They can't do enough for you, being smart, well presented, hospitable and very attentive, which made you feel like a millionaire in their hotel. The residence is in three blocks, the main building, an annex off to the side and a separate area around the pool. We stayed in the annexe off of the main building and the room was typical, quaint Tuscan decor, with air-conditioning (which was needed in the August heat). You have to embrace the slightly eccentric, quirkiness of the place. There is no 75" TV in the room with all of the latest satellite channels and no mini bar filled with every type of drink. Niether is there coffee or tea making facilities - instead you have to simply sit yourselves down outside and ask any of the staff for a beverage of your choice. It's never any trouble for them to serve you. Some reviewers have suggested that if you want room snacks, to grab those from the Coop in Donoratico before arriving. That was a good tip! Meals are taken outside during the Summer months and this made for a lovely, romantic, backdrop with ambience as the Sun goes down in the evenings. You can get bitten sitting outside, but we used the legendary Avon Skin So Soft spray and didn't have a single bite. The pool area is a short walk down from the main building and has ample number of sun beds to relax on, so no rushing down and chucking your towels down before breakfast! The pool is well maitained and clean, although not heated, but warm enough to swim in. Waiter(ess) service is provided and they regulary come round asking for your drink order, whilst you lay by the pool. If you embrace it's slighty quirky, 18th Century setting and want to switch off from your daily life and the rest of the World, this place will tick all the boxes, and then some ... Final tip few tips - you need a car! Not only to get there in the first place (it's up a steep, winding hillside) but also to get around and explore the wonderful scenary. Ask Daniella to book you onto the Terre del Marchesato vineyard tour and wine tasting, if wines are your thing. The local beach at Marina di Castagneto Carducci is about a 25-minute drive away, can be busy in season, but the best beaches are further down the coast at Baratti which is about a 50-minute drive."
