"Overall it’s one of the better hotels in central Shanglin overlooking a man-made lake with a walk / run track around the perimeter.  Close to night market and restaurants.  Only reason I don’t give an excellent rating is that our first assigned room was dirty (sticky floor) and had some damage.  We got moved across the hall and the second room was very comfortable, clean, and quiet.  Not sure why we were such a poor room when the hotel had plenty of rooms available.  Breakfast buffet was satisfactory - good bowl of noodle soup and fried eggs available."

It's a good place to bring kids; there's a sandpit, a swimming pool, and even karaoke, so it's not boring. The host cooked dinner, and it was quite delicious. The room was exactly as pictured, with complete facilities that the kids found fascinating. The host was very friendly and helpful, making the experience very comfortable."

"Staying at Shanglin, I dreamt among the pine trees. Opening the window, that pine stood quietly, like an old friend I'd waited for for a long time. When the wind blew, the pine needles sifted sunlight into golden specks, gently sprinkling them onto the linen sheets. At night, I fell asleep to the sound of the pines, my dreams verdant and long. Time here moves slowly, so slowly you can hear pine resin dripping and the clouds rising. It turns out the best escape isn't running away, but being gently embraced by a pine tree."

A heat wave was stuffy in the room, and then there were cockroaches in the bedding of one room. Soon there was a fat Malu on the floor of the other room.
