The Beachcomber Hotel

I don't normally write reviews but I saw the lead review for the Deluxe Room and had to respond. Unfortunately, the property certainly does not live up to that review. We stayed here last week for two nights. If we hadn't organised a full day trip we would've moved. The kitchenette is dated and the units are scraped and bashed. The bathroom is awful. Nothing has been done since the 70s I expect. The cold bath tap doesn't work. The jets and spa set up haven't been used in years and are broken. There's a piece of paper Sellotaped to the tiles reading 'spa temporarily out of use'. The shower curtain was disgusting. Surely, that could be replaced in minutes? Many of the single glazed units don't open. It was boiling when we returned from our trip. There are only electric heaters if the weather is cold. Clean sheets and towels. For reference to UK customers this is 2* at best and I'm being generous. Way past it's time for a total refurbishment.

Amazing place to stay. Very close to restaurants, very clean, quiet and the owners are great people. Its a short drive to town. It was a memorable stay. Amazing place to stay. Great location, close to the bus stop and the sea. There was a bathroom in the room and bath towels were provided, so it was comfortable. I was happy that I could use the washing machine for free. The woman at the reception was also nice and had a nice atmosphere. New Plymouth is a wonderful city!
Tasman Bay Backpackers

I stayed in the Tasman bay backpackers a few nights, the hostel is very nice and clean, and the location is great, but the receptionist Blake was very unfriendly since I checked in. My last day in the hostel I asked him if a friend could come say goodbye to me as I was leaving Nelson and he said no visits where allowed, although there was an European girl visiting a friend, and it was 6pm (visit time was supposed to be until 8 30). He was very unhelpful and seemed to have a problem with me being there.

Returned after 8 years, and this place is still as welcoming as always. Set a short level walk from the centre of Nelson. This lovely motel offers everything you need for a few nights. We were very lucky to be given a free upgrade, but my son's standard room was equally as comfortable. What makes this motel special are the lovely friendly welcome you receive from the staff and the can-do attitude to any questions. If we ever return to Nelson, we will definitely stay here.

Whole experience was perfect. Frazier was a delight and so incredibly helpful when our flight from Aukland was delayed and we arrived late into Nelson he drove us down to pharmacy before it closed and also helped facilitate making sure we received our delivery of hiking food before our early start the next day and to top it off stored our luggage while we were hiking Abel Tasman. Clean and well taken care of motel and I loved having the roomier space with two levels. Thank you for helping make our time in New Zealand so great!

The owner and staff are terrific. We had a two bedroom unit and it was more than expected comfortable. The host, Cobber, went out of his way to cover our first-timer plug adapter needs and the staff, including (pronounced) Timmy were great at explaining public transit and fielding what must have seemed like a lot of questions. We are heading back again at the end of our NZ visit!
