"This trip to Dali, I gave myself a reason to 'live amidst the scenery.' So I chose the Zhongli Qianxun Courtyard Hotel (Dali Ancient City South Gate Branch) – and the result was even better than expected: it's not one of those B&Bs that 'looks good in photos but is just ordinary to stay in,' but rather a place where every detail, from day to night, from the courtyard to the rooms, makes you want to slow down. 🏯 Courtyard: The gentle charm of the ancient city at a glance The hotel features a typical Chinese quadrangle courtyard structure, with grey tiles, wooden corridors, and carved windows. Walking along the verandas, you can't help but slow your pace. During the day, the light falls on the wood, casting a warm glow; looking down from above, the courtyard is enclosed in a quiet embrace, almost like switching from 'travel rush mode' to 'living mode.' Even more surprising – you can see the outline of the mountains in the distance. As dusk falls, the sky gradually turns blue-grey, and the mountain ridges appear like silhouettes. In that moment, you suddenly understand: the beauty of Dali isn't about hustle and bustle, it's about tranquility. 🐟 Waterside Fish Pond: Koi + Lotus Leaves + Reflections, truly photo-worthy The pond in the center of the courtyard is a huge bonus: lotus leaves float on the water, koi swim to and fro, and the water acts like a mirror, reflecting the eaves, lanterns, and verandas. My favorite way to shoot is with a low camera angle near the water – the reflections are absolutely stunning, especially after the lights come on at night, it's as if another world appears in the water. 🏮 Nighttime Ambiance: When the lights come on, the courtyard 'glows' At night, as the lanterns light up one by one, the entire atmosphere of the space completely transforms: During the day, it's elegant; at night, it's gentle with a touch of luxury. Sitting by the courtyard, listening to the sound of water, and watching the reflections, time seems to slow down immensely – that feeling of 'truly starting to relax on a trip' happens in this very moment. 🎁 Welcome Perks: Free afternoon tea + Free traditional costume experience (so much fun) Two additional 'enjoy-upon-check-in' perks make me want to recommend this place even more: 🍵 Free Afternoon Tea for Two (by the pond/waterside) Available once during your stay, from 13:30 to 18:00. The afternoon tea includes Dali aged tea and Dali's distinctive preserved plums (which I found very local). Sipping tea by the water is perfect for slowly letting go of the day's fatigue. 👘 Free Traditional Costume Experience: Full range of ancient/ethnic attire There’s a whole rack of clothes to choose from, enough to make your head spin. If you love taking photos, this experience is truly fantastic – shooting amidst the wooden corridors, carved doors and windows, and the lantern-lit night creates an incredible atmosphere. 🛏 Room Experience: Warm wooden space, comfortable stay The rooms are predominantly wood-toned, with warm lighting, making them very relaxing to be in. The bedding is clean, and the space feels unconfined. The worst part of traveling is when 'the outside is beautiful, but the room is hard to sleep in,' but that's not the case here. 🚿 I'm also satisfied with the bathroom: it’s generally clean and comfortable, the ceramic basin sink has a great texture, and the shower area is spacious enough, ensuring a worry-free stay."

"I had a soothing and comfortable short stay at 山隅一舍. The staff was very personable, accommodating, and kind, proactively offering tea/coffee and prepared fruit. The room was clean and had a great view of the courtyard. At check-in, she even offered to upgrade the two-bed room I had booked to a room with a single larger bed but I was happy to stay in the original room as it was already prepared. I stillfound it to be a very thoughtful offer. The beds were also equipped with heating mats, which offered great sleep in the winter weather. The neighbors have some roosters that rise early, but I found it quite charming and fitting for the “out of the big city” ambiance. I could honestly just sit in the courtyard all day watching the cat and the fish. It was truly a tranquil oasis in a town that sees many domestic and international tourists. The breakfast also tasted clean, fresh, and was promptly prepared by the host when I woke up. She was also happy to offer recommendations to both myself and other guests (I even overheard her going the extra mile, offering to pickup pastries for the other guests to try at their request). The B&B is situated very close to the ancient town without being overwhelming, which although quite commercialized, is still a fun stroll since it’s nearby. The location is also a short DiDi ride away from many sights along Erhai Lake. Dali is full of independently-run accommodations and shops like this, but this one stood out for its great hospitality and soothing environment. The cost performance was also great. A hidden gem for sure!"

"We booked the Dali Molv Mountain Residence B&B because it's only 300 meters from Honglongjing Gate of Dali Ancient City, and being just outside the city walls made it convenient for us to park our car and unload luggage. As soon as we checked in, the friendly male and female receptionists eagerly led us to a large map of Dali and gave us a detailed introduction to local attractions and food recommendations. Fearing we might forget everything, they even sent us a text with the information. Stepping into our room, the first thing we noticed was the semi-open courtyard filled with tropical plants visible through the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, making us feel as if we were surrounded by nature. The sleek, modern minimalist decor and smart amenities were also very refreshing. Whether it was the exquisite afternoon tea after a long journey or gathering around the stove for tea after a tiring day of sightseeing, we felt a warm sense of home. The big ragdoll cat and two Shiba Inus also loved playing and cuddling with us. And the electric blanket was a godsend for sleeping soundly during winter in Dali... Dali remains beautiful and charming in winter. We'll definitely return to this windy city, to the romantic Dali, and we'll certainly stay at Molv B&B again. We'll also share our wonderful experience with our friends and family."

"Choosing Pullman for the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 proved to be excellent value for money. As a luxury international chain hotel by Erhai Lake, my simple review can be summarized in three points. Firstly, the hotel quality: the location is superb, the new facilities offer a full sense of technology, and the bedding and bathrooms are impeccable. The electric blackout blinds are convenient and efficient. Secondly, the service: Front Office Manager Xiao Ma provided us with incredible surprises for our trip. From room upgrades to additional value-added experiences and travel planning, she genuinely cared for every guest. Lastly, the dining: We stayed for four days and had rice noodles at the Chinese restaurant and two meals at the Thai restaurant, which speaks volumes about the hotel's dining standards. Finally, the hotel's impressive wall of awards is truly well-deserved."

"Hey there, I'm Uncle Ben, wandering around Yunnan Dali. **Location:** I looked at a lot of hotels in Dali and found this one. The location is indeed a bit out of the way, outside the ancient city, so you'll need navigation to find it. **Service:** Excellent! Throughout my stay, the staff's attitude in arranging things and helping me understand everything about the surroundings was superb. **Cleanliness:** The room was very clean. The hotel seems quite new, so the whole room felt great. The room they assigned me also had a view of the outside, essentially four floor-to-ceiling windows, and even a small balcony. It was really wonderful and beautiful. I'm Uncle Ben, a man from China who believes in kindness and charm, and I highly recommend this place."

"For my last stop in Dali, I chose a hotel close to the airport. The hotel is quite new, and the rooms are nice. They even upgraded me to a sea view room for free. The breakfast was decent. Getting around isn't super convenient, but I had a rental car so it didn't bother me much. Plus, getting a taxi is pretty easy these days. The hotel service is good, and all the staff are very friendly. The guy at the entrance helped with my luggage, and the front desk was efficient. A lovely lady named Jingjing even sent detailed information about the hotel via WeChat, which was a very thoughtful touch! I didn't take many photos, just a quick shot of the parking QR code.🤣"

"First time in Dali, I didn't have high expectations for guesthouses so I opted for a hotel instead. It turns out hotels are just way better. The scenery is incredibly beautiful, even more peaceful and relaxing than staying right by Erhai Lake. The hotel facilities are also great, it's a 5-star hotel and has everything you'd expect, all high-quality as well. The service is very attentive. The butler checked in with us daily, seemingly worried about any service shortcomings. The shower had instant hot water, and the room was completely odor-free. I give full marks for the attention to detail and cleanliness!"

"An absolute gem of a hotel! It's located right near the ancient city, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing, yet it's surprisingly quiet, allowing for a peaceful rest. Both the public areas and the rooms are decorated with great taste and unique character. The front desk staff are super enthusiastic and always willing to help; they even handled a few minor issues very responsibly. The breakfast and afternoon tea were both generous, and they very kindly upgraded our room type. All in all, it was a super satisfying choice and experience! Definitely worth more people discovering and choosing!"

"Taking in the fresh air on Cangshan Mountain! This guesthouse has a simple, refreshing decor and spacious rooms. The owner is a young person who also has two cats. The storefront is at the entrance, and the rooms are upstairs further inside. Although it's located in an alley in Dali Old Town, it's still quiet and offers a good night's sleep. The soundproofing in the rooms is also quite good; you can't hear any noise from next door. The only downside is that the pillows are too soft; I hope they can provide some firmer ones. You can also go up to the rooftop at night to stargaze, a perfect end to a tiring day!"

"The service at this hotel was truly outstanding. A day before my arrival, the butler contacted me to provide details about the pick-up service. Both upon check-in and check-out, the butler fully assisted with my luggage. When there was an issue with the TV in my room, someone came to resolve it immediately. They even remembered guests' breakfast preferences, which was a lovely personal touch. As for the hotel itself, it boasts an ideal location right within Dali Ancient City, making it incredibly convenient for exploring shops and restaurants. It's just a short three to four-minute walk from the Renmin Road exit. The atmosphere within the hotel is tranquil and serene, making it a perfect retreat for relaxation. The breakfast and afternoon tea provided were both generous and delicious. A particularly delightful detail was the complimentary sweet soup served every evening, accompanied by a handwritten goodnight card – a truly thoughtful and personal gesture. Should I have the opportunity to return to Dali, I would absolutely choose to stay at this hotel again."
