Comfort Inn Crystal Broken Hill ★★★

📍 326 Crystal St, Broken Hill

"Two twin rooms were set, one of which was upgraded to three beds. The front desk was very welcoming and the room facilities were better than expected, especially the net map compared to the bathroom was a real shot. There is no other problem except that the wifi is a bit slow."

Broken Hill Tourist Lodge

📍 100 Argent St, Broken Hill

"Reception lady won't fix things if you ask. Send a text no reply. She is loud and very confrontational if you ask to get something fixed that isn't working. Poor form the bathrooms need renovating they are truly terrible very dated like 1970's but need fixing and a total renovation. Not worth the high rate other hotels have a similar price. Stayed before the electricity wasn't working now the A/C had mould and spores all over it very bad."

"A shame about the cocktails. We travel far and wide looking for the perfect Margarita. This wasn’t it. It had such potential. The bar maid was as busy as ten normal people trying to take orders, serve food and make cocktails but still was friendly and worked at top speed. The pizza on the table next to us looked amazing and we were tempted to have one. The margarita let the side down. Lime juice from a bottle or a pre mix wasn’t what we wanted. Fresh lemons squeezed as required make all the difference and take very little time. To be fair the barmaid did offer a refund as she tried to serve the dozen people waiting. More staff required and fresh lemons and you would be on a winner."

Red Earth Motel

We was driving around to find this place but eventually found it and I must admit it was nit what I was expecting at all it felt like some old back packer place shared kitchen lounge dinning room but lucky we wasn't sharing a bathroom . the place was run down and in need of some TLC its was. A bit of a rabbit warren of rooms . when found our room it was clean and tidy and lucky we wasn't sharing a bathroom. the place was not a very inviting place didn't really feel comfortable."

"What an oasis, fantastic resort, great value, great food, amenities out of this world. Nice historic hotel, lovely just lovely venue and only a short drive into Broken Hill. We have stayed at hundreds of sites and this is the first one I've put pen to regarding any review. Great young hosts that will help you and go overboard to make you stay the best. Don't forget the lovely fire pit - Recommend"

"The short story: The manger, Scott, is the let down for the rest of the staff here. The rooms, are big, but it’s noisy and the bed is really not comfortable. Greeted by a lovely woman at the bar when I went to check in (reception desk sign says to proceed to the bar). The manager had “just stepped out” (he walked past me as I walked in the door with my bags). Once he was back, no attempt at hospitality at all. The bartender told me I get 10% off with my room key on food and drink, Scott doesn’t mention this at check-in though. The rooms are nice. Heritage like. But the bed is awful. The room also faced a balcony , not in use by bar patrons on this stay, but would be an issue if you wanted to sleep and the bar was open with guests up there. The shower reached the bottom of my neck (I’m 6 foot), and it makes this screeching noise the entire time you shower. The street noise was unbearable. Cars revving and racing, and local homeless (??) screaming at the top of their lungs. I woke up every hour either from being uncomfortable or from noise outside the hotel. First night dinner was mediocre, the fine dining restaurant being closed (btw, the fine dining restaurant is fantastic, you should go here, if they don’t close due to low booking numbers). The casual dining was below average. I had a nasi goreng, which except for chilli, has NO flavour. I thought I had covid and had lost taste, I mean no flavour at all. I also ordered two grey goose martinis extra dry, that tasted like vermouth. The next night, I ordered the same to drink, and was told they don’t have grey goose. I said “I wonder what I had last night” and the bartender, manager, reception (Scott) came out and said a martini is with Bombay and vermouth, not grey goose, and pointed to “martini” on their drink menu. I tried to explain martinis, but quickly gave up, as Scott didn’t really care, and just wanted to argue with a customer about what I’d ordered vs what I got. I spent the rest of my meal listening to him shout to staff what able to seat guests at. The chicken schnitzel was ok, typical pub grub. The rest of the staff are very nice. I heard one tell an older gentleman and his middle aged son how much she enjoyed talking to them, and thanking them for their stay. The others are friendly, call you love and doll, and are attentive. The cafe in the morning is staffed by two lovely women, the coffee was delicious, and the bacon and egg roll with hollandaise was very nice. I wouldn’t come back, except for the fine dining restaurant. I’d stay at Ibis Styles or Red Earth, my usual places when I’m here a week or two a month for work. Unfortunately, they were full when I only had two days notice to book."

Daydream Motel and Apartments ★★★
"The facility was old but that shouldn’t be an excuse for dirty. The kitchen was poorly equiped. The bed was like a banana with pillows that resembled marshmallows. The service was appalling; there was never anybody at reception when you needed assistance. When you asked for items like kitchen cutlery and dish clothes, they never materialised. We were charged for three nights but only stayed for two and told it was because we booked through ***********. Really!!! Run for your life."
