Madame Vacances les Terrasses de Véret ★★★
"We stayed here on a last minute (5 days before) booking for a spring ski week. We were intentionally trying to go lower budget while still looking for a 2-bedroom-plus-living-space apartment in a convenient location. Overall we were pleased. The location is the main win as it is the closest you could be to the slopes without actually being ski in/ out. Everything else in Flaine was walkable to including the bowling, shops and restaurants in Flaine Forêt and then the ascenseur made getting down to Flaine Forum very easy. Check in was easy although reception doesn’t open till 4pm and they say rooms are available from 5pm. I don’t know what happens if you arrive after reception closes (7pm) but it can’t be that uncommon so I’m sure there is a system. After check in we had very little interaction with the staff other than ordering our bakery delivery for the next morning. They always seemed pleasant and helpful. We were in a first floor duplex. I worked out that these are entry into that level to either go downstairs towards the front, or upstairs towards the back. Ours was a downstairs towards the front meaning our terrace was ground floor and our front bedroom on level 1 also had a mountain view. I’ve read some reviews that both bedrooms were at the back (although still with a mountain view and balcony off the living area at the front) which I wouldn’t have been so pleased with although we hadn’t specifically chosen ours. The beds were alright and we knew we were going to have to make them ourselves on arrival so while that isn’t ideal it was fine to do as we arrived well before bedtime. We had a small shower room upstairs next to the ‘double’ bedroom and then a separate toilet and bathroom downstairs next to the twin room. The apartment was clean enough while not spotless and cleaning at the end could’ve been avoided by paying a supplement but we decided to do it ourselves (keeping to the budget!) Kitchen facilities were adequate if you don’t plan on cooking an awful lot/ at all. There didn’t really seem to be much surface space or storage but there were plenty utensils (no scissors), cutlery and crockery. We had 8 of mugs, plates, bowls etc so it was easiest to use it all then run the dishwasher, especially from a space point of view. I had taken a few dishwashing tablets as I didn’t want to buy a full pack and a small amount of washing up liquid and a tea towel. Ski lockers are on the ground floor and ours was sufficiently big for a family of 4 but I don’t know if are all the same size. They aren’t heated so I imagine if you were there in a particularly damp week (we had wall to wall sunshine) things might still be soggy in the mornings. We had a bench right next to ours although this might’ve just been luck! The well-being area is also on the ground floor, open between 10am and 7pm. Our boys went most days, and so (it seemed) did most other families, especially after skiing. I didn’t notice how long the pool is but I’d say max 15m and betw"
