SShiguangyouzou007I found a hidden gem of a hotel in Jiefangbei, and it exceeded all my expectations! 📍 The Ark Hotel (Jiefangbei Hongyadong Branch) has an unbeatable location, right outside Jiefangbei. My room directly overlooked the Jialing River, and opening the window revealed the dazzling nightscape of Mountain City. The twin towers in the distance glowed with a soft golden outline, creating an incredible atmosphere. The room boasted a sophisticated minimalist style, with furniture in rich wood tones complemented by luxurious Brazilian stone accents. The Serta mattress was incredibly soft – once I lay down, I didn't want to get up. My favorite part was the large bathtub; soaking in warm, bubbly water while gazing at the city lights outside instantly melted away all my travel fatigue. The hotel's public areas are also incredibly stylish. The dark-themed lobby with its crystal chandeliers and vintage sculptures makes for a perfect high-end photo op. And the beef brisket noodles for breakfast were so fragrant, especially with a freshly fried soft-boiled egg – a perfect way to power up for a day of exploring Mountain City. Being within walking distance of Jiefangbei and Hongyadong made getting around super convenient!

RRuRu0702The attention to detail here is truly excellent. On our first night, we left our wine glasses on the coffee table, and the next evening, during turn-down service, they had thoughtfully prepared drinks and snacks for us. It really shows personalized and considerate care for guests. There's a butler cabinet outside the room, which is incredibly practical. You can place items you need or laundry inside, and it doesn't disturb your rest. I've stayed in many five-star hotels, and this design is truly ingenious and valuable. The value for money is great too; laundry is free, and the mini-bar with drinks and snacks is replenished daily, also free of charge. The location is superb. The 7th-floor terrace offers an amazing view of Hongyadong and Chongqing's night skyline right opposite.

GGuest UserVery spacious room with good views! I could see a bit of the river with this room type. Within my expectations for the view. I usually don’t require a lot of service so I barely need to contact reception or use the WeChat for any help. The only down side I face is the lack of floor towel and small hand towel, plus I do not like to use solid hand soap. I mean I didn’t go ask for extra towels as it didn’t bother me that much.

GGuest UserI want to love this hotel. Unfortunately I had a bad incident that ruin the first day of my holiday in chongqing. We booked 2 River view rooms for our family for 3 nights as we wanted somewhere special to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. As we were traveling with children, I checked several times with hotel before arriving that I wanted two side by side river rooms and even asked before booking which room type to book to fulfill this criteria. We checked in very late at 2.30am as we came off a light night flight totally exhausted, and could not see anything when we checked in as the view outside the room was dark. We unpacked and went to bed. Next morning, we woke up and realised that one of the rooms had a giant wall across completely blocking our view. It was unlike the video in trip that showed full length glass windows. One had to climb and stand up onto the sofa to see any view. We were too rushed for other plans so only managed to talk to reception on afternoon of second day and got a river view room late afternoon of second night when we highlighted. Feel that it’s not correct to give us the first night room with the wall completely blocking the view when we had booked a river view. It’s terrible as it ruined our first day at chongqing. Service recovery was not good. We were not given any special apology for staying one night in a hotel room with no view, or for the inconvenience and time wasted in packing and unpacking when we had to change room the next day. I have attached a photo, will let you decide if you think this is a river view room. Pros One of the staff member at reception was very helpful and I am grateful for his good service . The rest of service was very mixed. We asked hotel to help store our ice cream DQ cake as we were too full to finish the whole birthday cake at one sitting. When we got it back from hotel, the whole cake had melted, my daughter was crushed. Hotel is modern which is great. Location is mixed, it’s on way to hongyadong which is convenient. But hotel entrance is opposite a public toilet and noodle shop. Not sure why but several times there was a big commotion or argument opposite the hotel entrance between groups of people.

GGuest UserGreat location, dinner was good, but let down by malfunctioning hot water in the shower in 2 or the 3 rooms we booked.  We had only ice cold water from the shower. Thankfully it was rectified. In one of our rooms (2005) the shower stall glass sliding door had come off the rails, and could East have fallen on guests, causing serious injury from the weight of the door and broken glass. The check-in staff was very helpful, but the staff at breakfast on 6 Jan was quite unhelpful, and in fact started to argue about the prior breakfast arrangement our tour guide made with the hotel the previous day. Rather than saying she didn’t know and would check, she unilaterally decided the options were wanted (and had prepared the hotel for through our guide’s arrangements the previous day) were not available.

ZZuihuasuPerhaps it's because I studied at the most authoritative university program concerning Chongqing's history, but I've always been intensely curious about buildings with historical significance, especially hotels that have transformed from them. Whether I'm sitting on the sofa or lying in bed in my room, I can't help but imagine the stories that once unfolded here. While every space, given enough time, surely holds a fascinating past, spaces with explicit historical information make these fantasies more concrete, or less ambiguous, by narrowing the scope of imagination. I recall a story about an elderly French woman in the last century who came to the French Navy Barracks on Chongqing's Nanbin Road to search for her birthplace. The Ren'ai Hall, built in 1902 by the French Catholic Church, served as both a church and a hospital. During the Anti-Japanese War, it sheltered abandoned infants, earning it the nickname 'Orphanage' among older Chongqing residents. Where did the children born or raised at Ren'ai Hall go? Did any try to return and explore their past? What did they discover? These imagined scenarios could form a novel, and with a large enough sample size, they might even be true historical events. Regardless, the current Ren'ai Hall, both in terms of its guests' physical and mental state and the hotel's physical space, feels far more relaxed and peaceful than it did in the past. After booking the room, several concierges were responsible throughout the entire process. The whole arrangement was very meticulous, and thanks to these arrangements, I personally had no questions that I needed to proactively ask during my entire stay. Before check-in, the concierge would inform me of the exact drop-off points for various transportation methods, and upon arrival, staff members were there to greet me. If I had a lot of luggage, even more staff would assist. The concierge also pre-booked a travel photography team. Teacher Zihao from Zixuan Photography, who handled our travel shoot, was very professional, both in his understanding of light and his ability to capture fleeting moments. A tip for friends who plan to do their own hair and makeup before the shoot: pay close attention to the final effect (the photography team has their own hair and makeup artists who can do it at the hotel, but due to time constraints, I did my own before check-in). It was my first time getting professional makeup, and I had no experience, so the result was so drastic I barely recognized myself, which unfortunately wasted many good photos. The afternoon tea was unremarkable, but whether it was breakfast, afternoon tea, or the evening sweet soup, a concierge could deliver it to the room. As for the room's interior design and the hotel's scenic views, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. (P.S.: Luckily, my room was upgraded to the Qiongyu Fanhua Suite, which I heard is the same one a certain celebrity stayed in.)

CCongyuanfanghuidaoguxiangGreat value for money. The front desk service was friendly. The room was clean and tidy, and the bathroom was well-equipped. The huge window offered a stunning view directly overlooking the Jialing River. It was vibrant with bright lights and bustling activity, but surprisingly, it didn't affect my sleep at all – though I know individual experiences can vary. Breakfast wasn't included, but there are plenty of excellent and affordable restaurants downstairs. Airport transfer wasn't provided, but a Didi Premier ride was less than ¥50. There was a washing machine available, but it had a slight mildew smell, so I decided not to use it.

AAimee_96Facilities: The facilities are quite new and well-equipped. The toilet is a semi-smart one, and the room has a mini-fridge. Hygiene: Clean. Location: It's incredibly close to Jiefangbei, with an excellent and convenient location for getting around. You can walk to popular attractions like Hongyadong, Jiefangbei, Raffles City, and the Yangtze River Cableway. There's a snack street right downstairs, and a Cha Yan Yue Se tea shop just outside the hotel. Even though it's in the heart of Jiefangbei, it's surprisingly quiet once you close the windows. Service: The service was exceptional. A special shout-out to the front desk lady who checked me in. I had some traditional Chinese medicine that needed refrigeration, and the fridge in my first room wasn't cooling properly. When I mentioned it to the front desk, they immediately moved me to another room, which was incredibly fast and thoughtful. Since I had to catch a high-speed train the next day and needed a quick check-out, I was able to use their express check-out service by simply handing my room card to the staff on the first floor. Very efficient. Sky Revolving Bar (Cocktails): They proactively informed me about the sky bar during check-in, and even offered take-away options. Check-in is also on the same floor, which is a unique touch. Overall, the hotel feels quite modern and youthful, and the staff are young and energetic. There were also many international guests. I initially booked for one night to try it out, but I was so impressed with everything that I extended my stay for another night. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Chongqing.

GGuest UserThe guesthouse has a dedicated butler who provides excellent service. They are very responsive to any issues, even replying and resolving problems in the early hours of the morning. From downstairs, you can directly see the Qianximen Bridge, the confluence of the two rivers, and the Grand Theater – the night view is stunning. You can even catch drone performances from the room, making for fantastic photo opportunities. Hongyadong is right next door, just a few minutes' walk away, and the night view from there is also superb. The bathroom in the room has a separate wet and dry area, and the guesthouse provides a full set of disposable toiletries, which is a thoughtful touch. There's also a single bathtub, perfect for a relaxing soak while enjoying the night views of Chongqing's two rivers – it's wonderful. The location is very convenient for transportation; the light rail station is only a few minutes away. The room is well-equipped with all necessary facilities. It's a great choice for travelers. I would definitely choose this guesthouse again for my next stay.

GGuest UserThe reason for the low rating is as follows: part1: The room lighting is dim; if you have poor eyesight, definitely don't come here. The overall color scheme of the room is black, a kind of dark gray. The pillows are square, more suitable for use as cushions than actual pillows. There's only one power outlet shared between two beds, so two people can't charge their devices simultaneously. The toilet area and shower (meaning the washroom part) are very small. The bathtub edge is quite wide, making it difficult to step over if you're short, have short legs, or are elderly. part2: The entire room only has one box of tissues placed on the vanity, and these tissues are very thin, of low quality. part3: The toilet paper is also very low-grade and thin. After a bowel movement, if you don't fold the toilet paper into four layers, your fingers will definitely get messy, instantly becoming 'golden fingers'. part4: The breakfast is genuinely mediocre: average quality, average taste, not many dishes, and the pastries are just the kind of bread you can buy at a supermarket.
