Hotels near Daimaru Department Store, Kyoto

The cleanliness at Kyoto Hachijo Miyako Hotel was truly impressive. The room was spotless, the bedding felt brand new, and the bathroom was fresh with no unpleasant odors. Every detail showcased their high service standards, making for a truly comfortable and reassuring stay!

This hotel provided everything I needed for my trip. The location is excellent, with convenient transportation and shopping options. What I particularly loved was being close to the Kamo River, perfect for a morning or evening stroll – it felt wonderful. As for breakfast, it was nutritious enough.

Although it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below. Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks. Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly). Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion.

Absolutely loved this hotel. Booked it in a rush and couldn’t be more satisfied. I was more pleased that this was a my 4 night stay in Kyoto during my Japan trip this year. The style of the room is a modern traditional Japanese room, with tatami inspired floor for the bed area, separating the entrance and wash areas. The main bed is raised so there’s plenty of room underneath to store multiple luggages. I loved that there is a small wooden folding table that has its own wall hanger when not used. The toilet is also separated from the shower/tub room, and wash area with a sink and large mirror. Each area had its own sliding door. Extra toiletries available in the main lobby included bath salts, which was perfect for relaxing in the tub after hiking Mount Inari to the top. I was solo travelling but booked a 2 person room as that was the only one available at the time, and the price was just right.

I stayed here for New Year's Day and found it incredibly convenient for getting around. It's perfectly situated between Daimaru and Takashimaya, making it a top choice for shopping. The hotel lobby has a seating area where you can enjoy complimentary coffee. Plus, there's a direct entrance from the lobby right into the subway station, which is super handy.

Facilities: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The hotel facilities are very complete! The room is equipped with thoughtful facilities such as smart toilet seats, humidifiers, mini refrigerators, etc. There is also a self-service laundry room and free ice machines in the public area. Hygiene: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must give full marks for cleanliness! The bedding has a fluffy feel after being exposed to the sun, the gaps between the bathroom tiles are spotless, and even the air-conditioning vents are free of dust. People with obsessive-compulsive disorder say it is extremely comfortable. Environment: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ Located in the downtown area but very quiet, the Japanese modern design is warm and elegant~ Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The front desk staff speaks fluent English and has a lot of smiles. When storing luggage, they will carefully affix classification labels. Transportation: 🚇 Prime location certification! It's a 3-minute walk to Karasuma Station, a 10-minute walk to Nishiki Market, and there are direct buses to Kiyomizu-dera Temple/Gion. There are many convenience stores and department stores around, so it is very convenient to have a midnight snack. Little regret: 🔥It’s ridiculously popular! We only managed to get a basic room type a few weeks in advance, and we might have to book even earlier during peak season. But when you think about the same price you can only stay in an old hotel like Chungking Mansions in Hong Kong, I suddenly feel that it is great value! Summary: If the full score is 5 stars, I would give it 5.5 stars! Highly recommended for both business trips and vacations, it has been added to the ”Next Kyoto Must-stay List” ❤️

I intentionally booked a smoking room, but the smell in Umeda was so strong, right? But here, I was surprised there was practically no smell. The staff were especially friendly, which was the best. If I go back, I'll definitely stay here. There's also a station nearby, so it's a great location for those heading to Umeda or Namba from Kyoto.

The location is super convenient, with a Lawson convenience store and many popular influencer restaurants nearby. The ladies and gentlemen at the hotel front desk were all very friendly. It seems like both the guests and the cleaning staff are Japanese, which made me feel very secure! Next time I come to Kyoto, as long as there's a room available here, I'll definitely stay again.

My stay this time was fantastic! From the moment I checked in, the front desk staff were professional and incredibly friendly. The room decor was modern and clean, with absolutely no strange odors, and the mattress provided just the right amount of support, making for a very comfortable sleep. What surprised me most was the excellent water pressure in the bathroom; the hot water came quickly, which made for a very relaxing shower. The hotel's location is also very convenient, with a convenience store and local eateries just a short walk downstairs.

Stayed at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kawaramachi Jokyoji from 20-24 Dec. This was my 2nd stay there in 2 consecutive months, despite there being hundreds of hotels in Kyoto.  Location:  the hotel is located in the city center with Nishiki Market and Teramachi indoor shopping street located very closeby. Kawaramachi is also a big commercial street lined with plethora of shops and malls.  Train stations within walking distance.  Hotel Facilities and Amenities:  this is a very beautiful hotel next to a temple (and small cemetery). The rooms are exemplary clean and quite spacious for Japan’s standard. Many facilities such as a public onsen, on-site restaurant, vending machine, ice machine, etc. No gym, which is not a big deal at all if you are in Kyoto for a short tourist visit.  You will be doing a lot of walking anyway if you choose to.   I only visited the on-site restaurant for dinner once. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Service staff was accommodating (I had to use a wheelchair at the time); however, service was lackluster otherwise.   Hotel staff service:  cannot praise the service by the hotel staff enough. This time around, I had injured my foot and couldn’t walk for 2 days. I was touched by the staff’s incredible kindness - they went out of their way to really help me out. Overall:  if you want city center location with easy access to modern shops and an array of restaurants within walking distance, big and super clean room, and great hospitality,  I’d highly recommend this hotel.
