WudawanThe hotel facilities are all very new, and overall, the room was quite spacious compared to other hotels I've stayed at in Japanese cities. I chose a smoking room, but could barely smell any smoke. The front desk staff were very friendly and polite. Matsumoto Castle isn't very big, so I chose to walk everywhere. I only took a taxi when going to Shinshu Airport. Matsumoto is beautiful, and I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit. Thank you very much!

_Miss_Koo_Location: The hotel is situated at the foot of a mountain in Satoyama, a considerable distance from JR Matsumoto Station. However, it offers a unique charm with panoramic views of Matsumoto Castle from the hillside.
Transportation: Unless you're driving or taking a taxi, here are your options: 1) The hotel provides a shuttle service to and from JR Station. There are two morning departures at 9 and 10 AM, passing by Matsumoto Castle before heading to JR Station. Return trips are at 4 and 5 PM. The pick-up point is at the temporary parking area to the right of JR Station Matsumoto Castle Exit (not a bus stop). 2) You can take the Meigahara Onsen bus line from the bus terminal downstairs at Alpico Plaza, opposite the temporary parking lot of JR Station, and get off at Fujii Station. You can find the bus schedule on Google Maps.
Service: There are English-speaking staff at the front desk, but no Chinese speakers. Simple communication is not an issue. The service was impeccable.
Dining: The breakfast is a buffet style with both Japanese and Western options, very extensive and delicious. There are also welcome drinks, including ice cream, juice, coffee, hot tea, and even draft beer! P.S. There are not many dining options near the hotel, so you might want to eat near JR Station before returning to the hotel, or dine at the hotel.
I booked one of the few rooms with a private onsen. Soaking in the hot spring while enjoying views of the Northern Alps was incredibly relaxing. The hotel also has a large terrace, perfect for enjoying a drink during the evening 'blue hour' – truly one of life's most comfortable moments.

Fukashiso could be one of the loveliest accommodation that I have ever stayed at. The staff were very polite, attentive and extremely helpful and courteous. The place itself is so beautiful and quaint. Traditional garments are provided as an option if you want to dress up for dinner. Made for great photo ops! The Kaiseki was the most beautiful equivalent of a degustation I’ve tried, and it was served in a lovely separate intimate dining area. During dinner Nobu-San a fourth generation family member of the owners greeted us which was a lovely touch. Soba was freshly made at the accomodation. We stayed two nights and the Kaiseki menu was different each time. Breakfast was a nice assortment of Japanese and Western options and the coffee machine was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the onsens, there are two public ones that switch locations for men and women and a private one. They were well equipped and relaxing. Our room was on Level 1 with a private bathroom, seating area and little garden view. Overall this place is highly recommended. For a traditional ryokan experience, it was so nice. Even after we checked out, the receptionist gave us a little gift, and even walked us outside to where our car was parked. Such a warm and lovely place. Stay here for sure!

Guest UserAmong the hotels I've stayed at recently, this one had a fairly comfortable bed and was clean. The room size was medium, but it would have been more convenient if there was a small nightstand next to the bed. The room offered mountain views and came with slippers, though no complimentary water was provided. However, there are vending machines for drinks and coin-operated washing machines within the building. Breakfast was decent. The hotel isn't far from the train station.
The young staff at the front desk were very polite. The older woman, however, seemed bothered by requests; she hesitated when I asked to store my luggage and even asked if I would pick it up the same day, which felt like an unnecessary question.

SusouThis capsule hotel is conveniently located very close to Matsumoto Station. We stayed on a Saturday during the summer, and the price was a bit steep at over 700 yen. Plus, there was an additional 200 yen per person tax upon arrival. The room was clean and tidy, and the bed was comfortable. Soaking in the large public bath really helped relieve our travel fatigue. However, it can be quite inconvenient if you're traveling with older children. Parking nearby is expensive, typically around 1000 yen from 6 PM to 8 AM, and about 200 yen per hour initially.

__mikuHaving a hot spring and being close to the station was really great. We could also walk to tourist spots like Matsumoto Castle and the shopping street. After the hot spring, we even had ice cream, and there were so many amenities. I definitely want to stay here again.

Guest UserWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at this resort. From the moment I arrived, the staff greeted me with genuine warmth and professionalism, making me feel instantly at home. The property itself is beautifully maintained, with stunning views and thoughtful touches that create a relaxing atmosphere. Every detail—from the comfortable rooms to the delicious dining options—was carefully curated to ensure a memorable experience. I was especially impressed by how impeccably clean everything was, including the public bathrooms and hot spring area. The staff cleaned up immediately after use, which made the whole environment feel fresh and cared for. I truly appreciate the team’s dedication to hospitality and excellence, and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a perfect getaway.
We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary care shown by the hotel assistant Akemi during our stay. When we were unexpectedly stuck in the snow in a remote area, she walked alone to find us and kindly offered assistance to call for tow truck support. She then guided us safely back to the hotel, even though we had already checked out, and welcomed us with tea and biscuits to keep us warm while we waited. Her thoughtfulness and dedication went far beyond duty, and her kindness turned a stressful situation into a touching memory. Thank you sincerely for such genuine hospitality—it is something we will never forget.

The room is a bit like a small house in Tokyo, it is still crowded! The twin room is a twin room with a bunk bed, and the lower one will be bigger, the upper bunk will be a little narrower, but the bed is still very comfortable overall, and sleeps very well! Breakfast is free, starting at 6:30 in the morning, winter is different from summer, and the store notice shall prevail. But the price/performance ratio really has nothing to say. Is it a night of sleep or recommended 😃 also self-check in and then the room door lock password will be printed on a piece of paper, which is more convenient. The station is about 5 minutes away, it is still very close.

Guest UserThis is a hotel that thinks about everything you may need before you have to ask. It's remote from the other hotels in the Kamikochi area and that's a great thing: you get to experience staying high up the serene mountains as well as enjoying the walking trails in the valleys below, where most tourists stay. But the staff make it easy to get to the hotel (and back and forth from the walking and hiking trails) even if you're taking public transport rather than a car to get there. They have a shuttle bus always on call to get you back to the hotel from a public bus stop. There's a really laid back vibe at the hotel, unlike some of the sometimes excessively formal atmospheres of others. Staff planned out our tricky onward journey without us having to ask, which was incredibly helpful. Room views were breath-taking and the rooms themselves were tradional-ish and spacious. The onsens were delightful after a long hike and the food was very, very good and generous portions. A hotel that didn't feel transactional. Would love to stay again.

Honestly, I can't praise this place enough.
The owners are a really lovely couple; very welcoming and extremely helpful. The rooms are great - plenty of space and all the amenities you need for a short stay. The onsen is just the best - it's a private one that you can lock the door to and have to yourself for as long as you can cope with the hot water!
But the *food* - wow! The food is absolutely fantastic and expertly cooked. Honestly, I've eaten in Michelin starred restaurants with food that wasn't as good as this. On top of that, at our first evening meal, we found that the message hadn't been relayed about my wife being a pescatarian. Anywhere else that might have been a problem, but within twenty-five minutes an entire new fish meal had been prepared and served - and was absolutely amazing. We were SO impressed.
Also, what a truly beautiful location. Oh yes, and they have *monkeys*!! They wandered past the property in the evening and wandered back the next morning.
I'm trying to name anything negative and I honestly can't - the closest thing I can think of is that the property is hard to locate and you definitely need a car to get there, but if you can get there, do - it was one of two equal-best places we've stayed at in Japan.
Thank you to the owners (sorry, I never asked your names) for a wonderful stay in your home.
